  3. Looks something like a song sparrow.

    Nice photography.

I hear cardinals, carolina wrens, grackle babies wanting fed, and other nature sounds and the sky in the east is getting brighter and the air is cool and the doors are open and so are the windows. I am blessed on this Father's Day morning.

  6. Abe ~ yes, that is a song sparrow...one of my favorites! Sounds like you are having a wonderful fathers day. I've enjoyed getting to "know" you a little bit and "meet" your wife and kids and grandkids. Yes you are truly blessed and enjoying the simple pleasures today! I'm especially impressed that you have a relationship with your kids and grandkids..not all of us have that.... and that makes them blessed, too!

  8. Betsy, thank you so much for posting this. I am one of those people who sometimes awake before dawn and start fretting about problems, fears, worries....it is never pleasant, and sometimes really awful. But do you know what invariably happens, as I am lying there awash in fretfulness? I will gradually become aware of a sound...it is birdsong...they sing outside my window, winter and summer...thanks to the massive Colorado spruce tee in my neighbor's yard, which houses numerous little birds. And when I hear birdsong as I'm lying the darkness, it has such an effect on me....I think, if a tiny little bird, so at the mercy of the elements, can sing its heart out in the darkness and the cold, then how much does its heavenly Father care for it, and care for me too...

It's amazing how often I seem to need this reminder. I don't expect anyone to understand unless they too are a member of the "pre dawn despair club" !!

    LOL.....

  9. Lavinia ~ I so agree! I don't wake up early and fret about things, but seem to just fret a lot during the day as I go about my routine. Most of the time it is about things or people that I'm disappointed in...situations that I've tried my best to remedy. I have to remember that ultimately, those people are responsible to God for their actions or non-actions. I can only pray, hope and wait...and trust that God will work in their hearts. Isn't it interesting that we can learn so much from those little birds!

  10. Yes, Besty, I think nature provides many important lessons, for those who have eyes to see and ears to hear, (as the saying goes).

Yesterday we had thunderstoms and deluge after deluge...I was really sick of all the rain, and fretted about my garden, which I had (stupidly!) watered that morning.

One of my molars which has given me trouble now and then over the years, (despite 2 root canals!) started to act up, and I was in general just...miserable.

THen, as I lay in bed having a pity party, the rain pouring outside...it happened...a bird starting singing its sweet song...I found it so uplifting....

You know, Betsy, I dont' think of myself as a pessimist, but sometimes, life is sooooooo hard!
