1 big bunch broccoli, chopped
1/2 sweet onion, chopped fine
13 strips bacon, crisp and broken
1 c sunflower seeds
1 c mayo
2 T vinegar
1/2 c sugar
Whisk the last 3 ingredients and pour
over the other. Stir and eat!

Above is the basic recipe.
I just use whatever
I happen to have. The picture above has
peanuts instead of the seeds. I also
added 1/2 cup shredded cheddar.
It's also great with dried cranberries.
To make it extra easy,
I use the precooked bacon and
buy the fresh broccoli already chopped.
Yum! one of my favorite salads, we are having it tomorrow night with grilled hamburgers.
ReplyDeleteKim ~ we had it with burgers tonight! It's our very favorite..I make it all the time!
ReplyDeleteI smiled when I saw this post because it reminded me of a dear little boy in the Sunday school class that we teach who loves broccoli salad. Your recipe sounds delicious... however, if I made it I would be the only one eating it. My 3 men won't eat it. I guess I'll have to pay you a visit. Save me some.
ReplyDeleteMG ~ Come right on over for some! It isn't fun to make something just for yourself! My oldest loves this...the cheese, peanuts and bacon really help. :)
ReplyDeleteI use this same recipe for mine except I put raisins in it instead of seeds. I like the substitutes that you use...I might have to try using them next time. Yummy, makes me want a big bowl full!
ReplyDeleteI haven't made this recipe in absolute ages!! Looks dee-lish! Perfect summer dish.
ReplyDeleteYummmm! That is one of my favorite salads! My dh or kids won't eat though! Waaa! When I go to my sisters In-laws house, one of the aunts make it. I always check to see if she's there because I love it so much!
ReplyDeleteI will be trying this on Saturday. This sounds delicious!
ReplyDeleteBetsy, is the broccoli cooked?
ReplyDeleteLavinia ~ no, it's fresh and raw...crunchy and cold ! :)
ReplyDeleteDelicious - and very good for you too.
ReplyDeleteI can see that the cheese and bacon would appeal to the young.
Having just returned from a bacon-free zone, I'm loving pork products.......!
happy weekend.
Nanatrish ~ hope you love it as much as we do! ;)
ReplyDeleteElizabeth ~ oh yes, you need to have a big bbq...chops, etc...all the pork products you haven't had in a while....and broccoli salad with bacon in it!
ReplyDeleteAn interesting medley of flavours. Printing it off for the bloggy binder under "Recipes" tab...
ReplyDeleteMy niece-in-law makes this for every family gathering and we all love it!
