I worked an auction today! Lots of neat things from an estate. The elderly lady whose things were auctioned off, certainly had some good taste. Very fun to observe.
1. Where else can you find rifles and Haviland on the same table? :)
2. This cast iron dinner bell was very cool. I could call the men to dinner! ha ha.
It went $125.
3. I loved the large vintage Santa. And how appropriate that he was standing by the snow skis!
4. And lots of pretty glassware!
I didn't bid on anything. You know how I like to wait and see what people leave for the trash!
Well among the broken items, castaway sets of encyclopedias and dusty cassette players, my coworker Steve and I found a garbage bag still tied shut. Obviously, it was included in a box lot, but the winning bidder wasn't even interested enough to open the bag and see what he paid for! Well, it was a Vera Bradley garment bag! Looks brand new! I haven't identified the pattern name yet, but they sell for $135 at www.verabradley.com Now how cool is that!? :) Although Steve didn't want it, he was just as excited as I was! ha. I will probably put it on eBay.
I got another item I'll show you tomorrow. I need daylight for a good photo.
It's a piece of handmade wood working. Very old. Naturally distressed (yeah, that was
before everything was newly distressed to look old! ha ha) and perfect for my zoo. :)

Wow - I think the auctions in your area are better than ours! I never find such treasures.
ReplyDeleteMy hubby collects old woodworking tools - can't wait to see your other find!
I'm always amazed. This lady had quite a nice Very Bradley purse collection and each was auctioned off separately. Someone just didn't look thoroughly through the items and missed that garmet bag. I'm sure it would have brought a good amount of money. There may have even been a purse to match! Oh dear. hahaha. The poor lady would be rolling over in her grave if she knew! lol.
DeleteHi betsy what nice things always you find in the auction I love 1 and 3 special 1 love these chinaware and the color!
ReplyDeleteAnd the bag look really nice:))
Yes, it is always fun! I didn't get the things in the first group, though. I was just showing what was there. :)
Deletebut were nice things!
Deletealmost always nice! I love to just look and see how high the prices go! ha.
DeleteIs true sometimes the prices are so cost, anyway I love the bag!
DeleteIt is very nice. I'm not sure it was ever used..it looks new!
Deleteyes I think look new, this is my bag style LOL
DeleteNifty Find! Personally would rather have the dinner bell.:) I've always wanted one but haven't found the right size yet.
ReplyDeleteI know..the dinner bell is very cool! There were three of them there today...all different.
DeleteWhat a busy day...you must be pooped!!! Love the vintage Santa...my son would love that!!!
ReplyDeleteHave a great weekend....and for Pete's sake...try and relax a little!!!
Cheers
Linda :o)
I am soooo tired. I think the last two weeks have caught up to me! I just want to stay in my jammies tomorrow and do 25 loads of laundry. lol.
DeleteMy brother's g/f is obsessed with Vera Bradley!! You don't want to keep it? Well, e-bay's an idea. I think you should keep it :)
ReplyDeleteI have a few pieces of Vera ...a wallet, and small things like that, which I like a lot. I'm not really cracked up about the pattern on the garmet bag!
Deletebooyah on finding that bag that is awesome! score one for betsy...
ReplyDeleteI know,..can't believe that nobody even looked inside to see what was there before pitching it. Just goes to show that you never know!
DeleteHow I love your auctions! I get excited just looking at the pictures. What a bunch of cool and vintage items.
ReplyDeleteWhat a surprise to find in that bag of trash!!!
HaHa, Yes, I said "roast" and it was a tenderloin...I'll do it again on the grill. Gave it such a nice crusty taste.
I'm working on my new blog. I'm calling it: Got a Minute or Two? All kinds of s
Short stories from my life will be the theme. I'll let you know when I do my first post.
Well, your tenderloin looked delicious...and I love being able to do that during the hot days and not turn on the oven!
DeleteI LOVE that idea for your blog. The best thing about being wise with years is are the lessons and stories you can share. It's going to be great!
I imagine that it is more exciting live than on E-Bay.
ReplyDeletehaha...well, everything is more exciting live, right? lol...
DeleteI never hear about auctions around me now, I'm sure they're around but just never hear about them. I'd probably be one of those people to sit and wait until it looks like the bidding will be over and then just get in at the last second hoping it doesn't get rebid up again. The waiting to the end for you seems to normally pay off, good strategy and you should get a pretty penny for that bag on ebay. at least half of what it retails right? I love the shot with santa and the skis, very neat. Thanks
ReplyDeleteyou should look online for live estate auctions in your area. I'm sure you could find some! It's always interesting to see what is there, what it goes for, etc. And of course the people watching is always entertaining. ha. Yeah, I would think I could get half...especially if someone collects this particular pattern. Will be fun to find out!
DeleteGreat finds! The dinner bell is the best!
ReplyDeleteSell WoW Account
yes, the dinner bell was very nice. The lady that bought it is going to mount it on a post in her yard. So cool.
DeleteThe bag's a find! Wow!! Take care
ReplyDeletex
thanks, kitty...it was a very fun surprise!
DeleteWow! What a find! I'm going to start going to auctions and digging thru bags to see if I can find one. I like Vera Bradley, but it's a little expensive for my budget. :)
ReplyDeleteit is expensive. That's why I only have a wallet and sunglasses case. lol. Actually, I prefer a leather purse and have her stuff as accessories. Still...someone will love it and hopefully buy it from me! :) Hey..I'm imagining your house a little quieter today. Bitter sweet, I suppose. xo
DeleteYes, it is quieter! Funny how I kind of miss the noise. :)
DeleteLOVE the auction treasures!
ReplyDeleteYou should have seen Steve. He cracks me up. Love that guy. haha.
DeleteGreat cool and vintage items!!! I'm crazy about galssware...at home we use all the one I find n my aventures around garage sales and actions.
ReplyDeleteHave a great weekend.
iela
I'm like that, too! Nothing is too good to use...sitting on a shelf collecting dust. I find we enjoy it more if it's used...and if it breaks, it breaks. Oh well.
DeleteI always love seeing your auction goodies. I have a dinner bell like that one, only a bit larger. It is now on my farm, but has been in my family for a VERY long time.
ReplyDeletevery cool...and I love that yours has some sentimental value, too!
DeleteWonderful treasures, especially that garment bag. Love that sweet print.
ReplyDeleteI'm hoping someone on ebay thinks it's really sweet, too!
DeleteWhat fun! It is like finding hidden treasure. I would have loved the cast iron bell.
ReplyDeleteit most certainly is like a treasure hunt....mostly junk and then a pleasant surprise. Kind of like going to the thrift store, right? ha.
DeleteStick it on ebay and get some dough
ReplyDeleteIf you don't want to keep it at your show
That is the best thing to do
And then spend it on you
As for the santa though
The one you have at your show
Is way better I have to say
As he just likes to flap and play..hahaha
yep, I think I'd rather have the dough
Deletethan to keep it around my show!
oh...why didn't I see this comment coming from you?
hahahaha...I should have been expecting it, too!
And I'd say instead of flaps, it's more of a wag
but maybe we shouldn't get into that.
haha yeah I expected you to see it coming a mile away
DeleteBut I suppose you were having an off day
From all the auction stuff
So missing out on the wag or flap isn't so rough
I LOVE the dishes and the pitcher!! Go, Betsy on the Vera Bradley. e-Bay here you come. ;) blessings ~ tanna
ReplyDeleteA Vera Bradley garment bag?!?! Shut the front door! You are one lucky dog. I luv a good find as well but you scored off the chart on this one.
ReplyDeleteI've been looking forward to seeing your finds this week - always such fun. It's amazing what people throw out. Had to Google Vera Bradley - and now I might buy a cover for my new phone from there. See what you get me into!
ReplyDeleteYou have all the fun....
ReplyDeletemaybe I need to "find" an auction house to work for. ;~)
