Flank steak isn't known for it's tenderness, but
marinating it 24 hours is the key here!
3 cloves garlic, chopped
1 T grill seasoning
(I use McCormick's Steak Seasoning with Garlic)
1 t paprika
2 t hot sauce
1 T worchestershire
2 T red wine vinegar
(I didn't have any so used red wine)
1/3 c olive oil
2 lbs flank steak
Wisk all ingredients together and
spread on steaks. Cover and
marinate 24 hours in refrigerator.
Let set at room temperature 30 minutes
prior to grilling.
Sprinkle liberally with kosher salt.
Grill 7-8 minutes per side for medium doneness.
Let meat rest 10 minutes before slicing,
thinly and on an angle.
Yum!
If you guys are big fans of grilled flank steak, you would also like "flat iron" steak. Our Kroger carries it in shrink wrap, and often has two for one sales. It is heavenly, tender and even less expensive. I am making myself hungry here! :P
ReplyDeleteWillow ~ yum...I've never heard of flat iron steak! Tell me how to prepare it! And I love the two-for-one deals! :)
ReplyDeleteWe're fans of the flat iron steak, too. I'm always amazed by how tender they are.
ReplyDeleteThanks for this recipe, Betsy. Like you, I've got a house full of men and I know that this will be appreciated for dinner. After all, they can only handle so much chicken casserole!
My goodness Betsy...that looks delicious...I'll have to try it for sure :) I'll also have to look for Willow's flat iron steak as well... Thank you for the recipe Betsy...
ReplyDeleteI have everything this recipe calls for already in my cupboard. All I need is the meat. I am going to try this.
ReplyDeleteThank you!
All I do to the flat iron steak is generously sprinkle both sides with salt, pepper and chili powder just before grilling.
ReplyDeleteI think it's called flat iron because it's flat and shaped like an iron! ;)
Just got back from Kroger...had to get some...all this talk made me SO hungry for it!
Do you know that feeling - and it's a very carnivorous one - when your mouth waters at the sight or scent of good food, and then your teeth seem to ache slightly? I used to say as a little girl that my teeth "had gone soft". It's that kind of feeling I had when I looked at this picture.
ReplyDeleteMy inner cavewoman is craving that flank steak. Nawm nawm nawm...
Wonderful picture Betsy! I'll be trying this very soon.
Mmmm...that looks so good! I really love steak! Your recipe looks so easy, too, I've got to try it!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the anniversary wishes, too!:)
I just saw your "countdown" on the sidebar. You're not excited, or anything are you? I'm excited for you!
ReplyDeleteMy problem is finding flank steak, they don't have it here, maybe I can get flat iron,,,,,will have to check on that, sure looks good.
ReplyDeleteWell, I'm ready to try the flat iron steak next! It's on my grocery list for next week! :)
ReplyDeleteMG ~ Yes, getting excited for the trip! :)
Betsy, what are you trying to do to me? you little dickens!! Man, does that ever look delicious. And your gadgets... ok, I'm jealous :)
ReplyDeleteG'day from Australia, Betsy
ReplyDeleteI came here from Bahcelor's blog. Next time you feel like a steak, come round and I'll do you and your family some special Australian BBQ steaks.
What's your clan doing today? It's a beautiful autumn (that's right, autumn!!) day here in Melbourne, so d'you want to drop in?
I made your marinated flank steak for dinner last night. It was enjoyed by all. Tonight I sliced the leftovers into strips which we used to stuff soft tacos. Another yummy meal.
ReplyDeleteMG ~ tacos for the leftovers is a wonderful idea! I will remember that for next time! Thank you!
ReplyDeleteFlank steak is one of our favorite meals, so I will definitely be trying this. Love the taco idea, too. The problem is, we never have leftovers from the flank steak. :) Thanks for visiting my blog. The honey pecan mustard you asked about for the reuben sandwiches is Market Pantry brand found at Target.
