Today

Like my hat?
The big kids gave it to me as part of my
Mother's Day gift this year.
Two of the guys woke up with a fever this morning
so we cancelled the day program and had a day off.
I still had to go pick up the groceries (so thankful for Kroger
ClickList) so we all piled in the Jeep after lunch and made the
trip, stopping at the thrift store to drop off a few boxes beforehand.

After Kroger we drove through McDonald's for
fries for the guys and a coke for me.
While we were waiting in the drive-thru I got rear-ended!
That white car behind me ran right into us.
I got out and she got out.  The nose of her car was
jammed under the back on my Jeep.
She was upset, said her son was screaming for a
hamburger and she wasn't paying attention.
I asked her to back up a little so we could see exactly
what the damage was and when she did it didn't show
much.  I had a little scratch on my bumper and she
had a little worse scrape on hers.  We agreed it wasn't enough
to make a fuss over and I assured her it was fine.

She looked relieved and as I got back in the Jeep I
thought how she looked like she was having a terrible
day.  I thought I'd do a nice thing for her and pay for
the Happy Meal for her son when I paid for our stuff.
But before we could even get much further in the line
(it was very long and slow moving) she cut out of line
and left.  I guess the stress of waiting was more than
that family could bear.   I remember days like that.

So we got fries and a coke and were on our way.
Fevers are better tonight and we're going to take another
vacation day tomorrow just to make sure everyone
feels better.  I mean, fries cure everything, right?

Aww yes fries. In my sons case it's slurpies or sodas.

    1. Our Alex used to love soda. He's drink a 2 liter bottle in one sitting. lol.
We had to cut out all that sugar. I don't think he's ever had a slurpie.
I'm curious if he'd like it!

  3. You definitely are One God Woman and One Good Mom too.
Of course fries were made for medicinal purposes....I think my Hubby thinks so.
Hope the boys feel better tomorrow. An extra day off will be perfect for everyone.

    1. I'm really glad there wasn't enough damage to have to call the police and file a claim.
That really would have been a pain! Her son would have never lasted through that. haha.

  5. Oh no sorry to hear that the boys are unwell, figers crossed they feel well soon! when reading about your car adventure my first thought was that you are a Saint. Well you are ...!!! how nice of you Betsy. And I was thinking that the way the driving was going on in here in June I would probably be 'the other woman' all stressed .... and I hope one day I will get to the zen attitude of yours :-) I guess the pressure of small kids and having to be everywhere on time while the traffic is just so bad and makes us all bit crazy. The hat is so cool and in your favourite colour too :-) happy day Betsy! I am having my american friends coming to stay with us today & tomorrow:-)

  6. Great hat!
Sounds like that Mom had reached her breaking point. I'm glad you didn't push her over the edge! Very kind of you.

  7. Gosh Betsy - things happen don't they ... but I'm glad it doesn't appear to have made much damage to your car. Gosh she sounds like one troubled mother ... if only she knew - love Montik's comment ... your zen attitude to life - - standards we all could reach.

Amazing the boys didn't react ... but am glad the fever is receding and hopefully by now - all will be on the way to good health ...

Love the hat - clever big kids! cheers Hilary

    1. I don't even think the boys knew it happened! It was really more of a push that rocked us forward
      rather than a crunch, thankfully.

  9. Sorry to hear about the boys, but I suppose the frites were some compensation for the fevers. Things are different over here. If a car has slight damage like you experienced the drivers exchange insurance details and the injured party claims a lot of money for repairs and there is bad feelings all around. True, and the offenders insurance premium goes up the next year. Madness! Yes, you are a very good woman, that hat could have been especially made for you :-)

    1. We would do all of that, too with insurance claims and filing reports but there wasn't enough damage to
go through all of that, thankfully.

  10. What a day!! I am glad you were able to just send that young mom on her way without filing a report. I remember days like that as well. And yes, I do believe MacDonalds Fries will fix just about anything.:)

  11. A good woman you are, my friend. You are a reminder to us that life is to be LIVED, not just passed by. Who knows what fruit will come from you extending grace to that young woman at the drive-through. Hope the guys are feeling better today and are able to enjoy their day at home. Have a wonderful day, Betsy.

  12. Sure looks to be enjoying the fries
Sounds like her son was getting on her nerves with his cries
Just a bad day with a little nudge
Good that through insurance one didn't have to drudge
    Just adds character I say
I'll drive mine into the ground anyway.

  18. perfect hat for you! hope all are well now. last time someone rear-ended me it was in a parking lot and I hopped out and asked 'why did you do that?' What a dumb question. Thankfully all was ok and we just both went on about our day too.
