I picked up these sweet old books at an auction
a few weeks ago. The pretty covers caught my attention
and of course, the subject matter.
They just look like something I would like, don't they?
They just look like something I would like, don't they?
It seems that 16 year old Frances Jones owned these
almost 100 years ago and pressed her leaf collection
in them. I just love that.
♥
Imagine. 100 years ago she enjoyed those books. It makes you wonder so much about that young girl.
ReplyDeleteIsn't it fun to wonder? Love that. Love the leaves that she put in there. So fun!
DeleteThey are so pretty! I love her writing in the book. She has the same birthday as my Dad, but he was born 15 years later.
ReplyDeleteYeah, those inscriptions from long ago are always fun. Her writing isn't very
Deletefeminine and I wonder if Frances could have been a he.
I think his name would be spelled Francis. . . . 😊
DeleteYes, I know the proper spellings but there are always exceptions to the rule!
DeleteI love these! What a treasure you have! Don't you just wonder about what kind of girl Frances Jones was 100 years ago? Especially at the age of 16.
ReplyDeleteMakes you want to time travel, doesn't it? (as long as we could come back. haha.)
DeleteWe're trying to downsize, and that includes getting rid of excess books. It's SO hard to let them go!
ReplyDeleteDownsizing is always hard...especially if you love old beautiful things!
DeleteHi Betsy - just lovely ... exactly the things I love ... such a delight to look into each book occasionally and see a little of England (presumably) and then perhaps post a few pages of interesting inclusions ... fascinating - cheers Hilary
ReplyDeleteI need to do a little investigating and see if there are more books in the series.
DeleteMight be a fun thing to make sure I have a complete set!
Lovely! And you can see she used her tree book to identify those leaves. My tree book has pressed leaves in it in just the same way. I have to keep it shut with an elastic band.
ReplyDeleteYou should show us your leaf collection some time! How cool is that!?
DeleteJust you, isn't it?
ReplyDeleteHow interesting . . . . 100 years old too. . . . Er the books. Not you . . .haha
haha...but I'm over half way there!
DeleteI didn't want to say it and quite frankly looking at you I don't believe it!!! . . :)
DeleteYou can say it. :) It's not a secret. haha.
DeleteThere's soething very fascinating about the leaves she pressed nd the fact they are still there after all this time . . . :)
DeleteSure you indeed
ReplyDeleteAnd now you have something far older than you at your feed lol
Hard to believe it's true
Deleteby a youngster like you. lol.
What beautiful books! I love old books and imagining the people that owned them...and read them. These are true treasures! Hugs, Diane
ReplyDeleteHi Diane! Love that you came to visit and took the time to comment!
DeleteIt's like peeking into the past. Lovely variety.
ReplyDeleteMy aunt's name was Frances so I'm pretty sure your mystery person was a girl. The male spelling is usually Francis.
I used to press flowers and leaves, too. I wonder if young girls still do that. Hard to press leaves into a smartphone!
Yes, I realize that. Maybe that isn't her writing in the book. Someone else could have written it..a parent, perhaps.
DeleteGood point...I wonder if they do press leaves. Hopefully they are still required to do that in science class.
What a treasure!
ReplyDeletePretty fun, huh!
DeleteNice that the leaves were still in there after all these years.
ReplyDeleteYes...a really fun surprise to find in there! A nice variety, too!
Deletethose look perfect for you. what wonderful and sweet books. glad they found the perfect home. hope you and your men have a great weekend!
ReplyDeleteThanks...good weekend so far! Half way done already!
DeleteSuch lovely books! And the history of books is always so fascinating!
ReplyDeleteI know you love books! :)
DeleteJust waiting for you to find them and love them.
