The Prince and the Pauper

It's like a mirror image, almost!
I did finally put a little dish of food out for this guy after he was here
three days in a row.  He looks a little leary of me, doesn't he?
Last time I did this was with Peaches, who I fell in love with.
It took me months of befriending him before I tricked him into
a trap and got him some vet care, a bad tooth pulled, shots, flea
control and neutered.  He disappeared and never came back and
he broke my heart. And it's only been 2 months since Tiger died...
so, I'm a little hesitant to do this again.  Still the poor guy has chosen
to camp out by our back door...mostly to get out of the rain,
I'm guessing.  So, we'll see how this goes!
About 6 of our cats were out there with him,
all obvious friends. ha.  I think I need to name this kitty
so I can give him a 'label' for his posts here. :)

  1. Aw, bless his heart and yours (always). He does look like he needs some care. I think half the battle of taking them on is that they have to get along with the others.

  2. Aw, sweet grey one. I'm so glad you started to feed him... bet he's glad, too!
But seriously, I know how hard it is for you when past kitties have disappeared. So much emotional (and financial) investment and you simply want to help them and welcome them. I hope this new needy fella works out.
Slate underwent such a wonderful transformation so I am hoping that happens for this kitty, too.
    Fingers... and paws crossed!
Thank you for all you do for these furry felines.

    1. Slates transformation was such a great one, wasn't it? His before and after pics should make anyone support helping homeless animals. So fun to see that. So many similarities with this one....how the cats knew about him before I did and had already befriended him. So sweet. So we'll see how it goes...I can't turn a blind eye to him, of course. And I love that face! haha.

    1. Yes! Boy, we have had some that brings a strong negative reaction among the tribe here. Oh, the shrieking and fighting to keep them away! I guess they know the ones that would be trouble. This one was leary of me walking out there on the porch. He didn't want to be petted like some do. I'm thinking he hasn't belonged to anyone before.

  4. Hi Betsy - I'm glad he's being offered to camp out with you for now - seeing how things go ... it's great the others seem to have accepted him so far ... take care - cheers Hilary

    1. Yes, it has been rainy, so our porch provides some shelter from the weather. Now, if he starts sleeping in Cocoa's cushy chair out there, I'll know he's one of the family. haha.

  5. You're a softy really aren't you? Now the other cats have accepted him/her methinks it wont be long before he/she moves in. I would love another cat, or two, but Dinky says "NO" she wants to be the only cat in the house !

    1. Oh, I like that! It's on the short list for sure. We seem to have named them all simply for identification purposes....I really just wanted to tell them apart, never dreaming those mama feral cats would stay with their litters. The only ones that aren't are Jack and Samantha. :)

  7. That would be hard...to have lost so recently. Maybe this gray guy (gray...your favorite color?) will become your healing balm. I shall await the name for this newest addition to your family. :)

    1. Thanks....I feel like I need it! I was just out there with him again this evening. He ate a little but is very wary...and I admit I'm wary of him. He has a sweet face from far away but looks kind of evil when you're up close! haha. Maybe he's more scared than me and I'm misinterpreting that face. I don't think he's ever been petted before....didn't try, but was happy he approached me when he saw the food bowl in my hand.

    1. Needs a bath but I'm not volunteering.
I'm sure of that he would not be cheering.

  10. Aw sweet face he has got! wishing that he realises that your place is the cat paradise and that he stays :-) I am curious to know how you will name him :-) Betsy I will be off for 2-3 weeks as we are going to travel ... looking forward to see you afterwards:-) and maybe I will get some wifi connection at my family's place so I will have a peak at what's up with you and the pauper who might become the prince in the meantime :-)

    1. With these wild ones it's a slow process to gain their trust!

Well, how fun for you to get away! Have a wonderful time! Hope you find some wifi, too!
