Sterling

Look who I found out on the back porch again today.
Thought I better name him since I've been calling
him "that cat". haha.  I gave him rotisserie chicken
and he let me pet him.  A fair trade, I think!

I told him he was welcome to stay, but he had to
abide by the house rules...

1.  play nice with the tribe
2.  I was in charge (haha)
3.  flea control every month
4. vet check up and vaccines
5. you have to be neutered. (sorry, buddy)

And wouldn't you know he promptly jumped off that
stool and sauntered out of the yard!
hahaha.....#5 must have been too much to handle.

  1. LOL IF I was a boy 5 would have scared me off! Sounds like he is workable though. I am looking for a happy ending here. Anyone so kind with animals has a big heart. (maybe excepting #5)

    1. Yes, I do believe he's workable. haha. And chicken helps. ;)

  2. Ha!!! Well maybe the fact that he sauntered rather than sprinted is a good sign.
    Hope Sterling sees the light!

    1. LOL! Well, that's a good point! Also, he initiated the petting! I would hold my hand out so
he could smell it and he would duck under my hand so it would be on top of his head. So cute.
Not totally feral...at least it seems he's been petted before!

    2. Be careful Betsy, he could be someones pet who is just scrounging and they might miss him if he moved in with you. My old cat, Sooty, moved in with some people nearby because they gave him food and fuss and enticed him. A week afterwards I saw him sitting on their doorstep obviously waiting to be let in. I went and told them he was my pet and I was upset about the matter, they apologised and stopped feeding him. After a few days he returned home.

    3. Right...I always consider that. I didn't feed him until he'd been hanging out on our porch for over three weeks. I know he looks good in the photos, but he really is in need of care. He's covered in flea bites and his fur is dirty. If he belonged to someone it was not recently, in my opinion.

  3. Sterling! I love that name for him! I'm guessing that living by house rules, which included #5, may have been more than he could handle today. Maybe tomorrow...especially if he can get some more chicken! haha

    1. I'm loving that face, too! He's all flea bitten in his ears.
Maybe if I can continue to pet his head, I can get some flea control
      on him soon. Finger's crossed!

  9. Sterling is the perfect name for him - elegant and a little stand-offish! Who can really blame him for not liking #5 though?

    1. Exactly. I think it suits him. He's especially standoffish with the mister. He came around last night and the mister tried to feed him and he was very wary. If he only knew what a softie he is. haha.

I love his name Sterling, as in British pound sterling ....yay.
He's a lucky little kitty, despite the promise of his 'family jewels' being confiscated.

    1. Our cats seem very accepting of him, so that is the biggest hurdle.
I've noticed when it's raining he comes to our porch for shelter.
Rain is in the forecast for the next 2 days so maybe we'll see him
      a lot this weekend!

  17. Maybe it was #2. Cats always believe that they are in charge.

  18. Sterling would be such a lovely cat if you are able to get him inside and adopt him. I feel for cats left outdoors like that. To me if you have a cat and aren't taking proper care of it and someone else decides to adopt it you can't complain about it. We have a couple of kitties that came from other people who didn't really care about their pet. I hope Sterling comes around again and you take him in.

    1. Yes, I do think you're right....if the cat leaves because of non care, they can't really complain. Sometimes I think they belonged to someone at one time and are on there own now for whatever reason. I always say they adopt us....not the other way around!
