Vintage Canning Jars

In working on my New Year's Resolution of
"A place for everything and everything in its place",
I wanted to find a place for my collection of old
canning jars.  They've been in a box in my studio for
a couple of years now and I knew I either needed to
display and enjoy them or let them go!

Knowing that they look best with light shining through them,
I decided to put the second shelf in my garden window that
I hadn't used yet.  I was afraid it would look too crowded,
but it looks pretty good!  And it gives me that spot for
the jars that I needed.  I think the remainder of my
collection is going to be used in the pantry, so maybe
I won't have to let go of any just yet.

I'm liking the way they look with my vintage
planter collection, too!

    1. Isn't that little birdie so sweet? It's a McCoy, too. It was a hostess gift from Thanksgiving.

    1. Thank you! It was time to dust it all out anyway, so I got that crossed
off my spring cleaning list while I was at it. haha.

    1. Nothing like little houseplants in a sunny window, eh? :)
Hey, you're my 'go to' on succulents. Do you know if that one sprout
is a flower...or will become one?

    2. I find they usually look more like flower "buds"...but, you never know!
Not sure what kind of plant that is...very pretty, though!
      Fingers crossed!😊

    3. Yes, I can see that. Maybe that is all that it will be. Still, I like it...adds a bit of
interest to that plant! Still need my hen and chicks!

  4. I love the canning jars, too. I have some that belonged to my mother-in-law. I think I just may dig them out of storage. Thank you for the inspiration. I really like your vintage planters too...and how you have placed the little birds here and there. I can hardly wait for auction season to begin here. I saw that you were going to the auction today and I envied you.

    1. I have parted with a ton of stuff over the last few years! Paring down is hard at first, but then fun and freeing. But there are still things I want to keep....and if I can have them where I enjoy them, that's even better!

    1. There were merely useful, typical kitchen storage at one time. It would blow the minds of women of that time to know how collectible some of them have become!

  17. Very effective and the jars look fanrastic with the light shining through them. They look far too interesting to let them go. I seem to remember an earlier post about them a while ago and I liked them then too . . :)

Great for pickled onions I would think and chutney . . :)

  18. Ooh Betsy, I absolutely love your old Mason jars....
I have my collection above my cabinets, but it's getting harder to wash them off regularly. Yours on the other hand are right within reach.
You have a lovely vintage pottery collection, I remember my grandma had lots of green/blue planter pieces, I've often wondered what happened to them over the years.

    1. Oh, those things on high shelves seem to get just an annual wash, don't they? haha I have some high shelves like that. I have a weakness for dishes, glassware and pottery....but you probably have figured that out by now. haha.
