- I love seeing the leaves on the ground. I say stop the raking! haha Look how pretty that looks!
- We had a parakeet die recently and then his little friend died a week later. They were both elderly so it wasn't surprising. The second one going soon after the first happened to our original bird couple years ago! I can't help but think that they are broken hearted and lonely. Aw. Hope they are reunited in heaven and happy again. No more birds for us, though. The zoo has now shrunk to cats only. What a difference a year makes! No more rabbit, no more bird song. Sigh.
- Can you believe Thanksgiving is just next week? Time is FLYING!
- Speaking of Thanksgiving, most of you know how I feel about mixing holidays. No Christmas creeping into the autumn holidays! Thanksgiving is warm hues, pumpkins, pilgrims and turkey. I couldn't believe my eyes scrolling through Instagram and seeing ladies decorating their Christmas trees before Halloween. What on earth! They said they have so much decorating to do that they must start early. I say they are doing too much decorating, then! haha.
- I don't decorate for Christmas before December but I do start my shopping! haha. Online, free shipping, in my jammies. My favorite way to do it! Already got a good chunk of it done!
- I haven't been to an auction since August! Can you believe that? With my extra storage room turned into a guest room, I don't have the space for a lot of pending items waiting to be sold in my shop! So I've taken a break to let things sell down to a more manageable amount. I've still had a sale or two almost every day, so it's all been good. Tomorrow I'm off to an auction again! Should be fun! I wonder if they've missed me. haha.
Any random thoughts in your head today?
♥
Aww I'm sorry to hear about your parakeets. We have two zebra finches that are very close.
ReplyDeleteI do all my shopping online too. It's so much easier. Beautiful leaves!
I didn't know you had birds! I've seen those zebra finches....they are adorable!
DeleteTotally agree with the online shopping...I love everything about it!
1. I'm sitting here at my computer in the dining room. Out the window I see a carpet of yellow, rust and tan leaves...against a bush full of blooming camillias. The sun is setting and leaving everything in a golden glow. A beautiful way to end the day.
ReplyDelete2. I'm looking for the positives today. Too many negatives on FB lately.
3. Planning my Thanksgiving menu and getting ready to do some shopping.
4. No Christmas decor here either until December rolls around.
5. Christmas shopping? Oh my, I'm afraid it's going to be a lot of gift cards this year.
6. Property taxes loom .
7. Registering for my annual trip to Mexicali, Mexico with the food team from our church...more things on my to do list.
Have fun at your auction. You always find such amazing treasures.
So funny that you are sitting there in daylight, three hours behind us! It's pitch black here and has been for almost 2 hours! :) I totally agree with the negative FB. I've felt that way for several months now and have avoided it for the most part. I get on there quickly to do my business page and then take a quick peek but leave at the first sign of negativity. I guess I take it all personally....and some of it really hurts. Crazy, crazy. haha. Hey, gift cards are good! Easy to buy and give. :) I remember your trip last year....very cool!
DeleteFall is my fav time of year, but our leaves blew off the trees before they ever changed colors compared to pics I took last year. I agree....no mixing holidays. Don't rush them because time goes fast enough as it is. Just cats only in the zoo must seem strange after all this time.
ReplyDeleteMarla
We kind of had that fall, too, with the leaves not staying as long or peeking all at once. Still, I love it...the weather is wonderful. I hate the rushing into Christmas...fall seems too short as it is with three weeks of it lost in December just due to the calendar!
DeleteYou mentioned it has been pitch black there for almost 2 hrs. I wouldn't have said this last year, but I think I like that it gets dark earlier now. Isn't it crazy how easily we can be effected by DST and how long it takes to adjust?
DeleteWe can't stop talking about it! Just one hour and we feel like it's 3 hours later in the evening! haha. We've been going to bed a little earlier, too.
DeleteSo sorry to read about your little birds :(
ReplyDeleteI've had three budgies in my lifetime, my first lived an incredible fifteen years !
Your leaves are so colorful, we have less color this year because of the lack of rain.
I don't decorate until December either, in England we put the decorations up a week before Christmas, although we leave them up until the 6th January.
Loved your moon pictures, so magical !
~Jo
Do you do the 12 days of Christmas? Do they start with Dec 25 or end there?
DeleteSome of my favorite things--rustic garden gate, colored leaves on the ground, and random thoughts rolling around! Love it. And a very nice photo too!
ReplyDeleteAnd me! You forgot me! hahaha....
DeleteSorry to hear about the parakeets. :(
ReplyDeleteI know. :( So sad.
DeleteVery pretty Fall picture!
ReplyDeleteSorry about your parakeets. We just lost a bird at the nursing home too and our residents are pretty sad about it.
I don't decorate for Christmas until the day after Thanksgiving. No mixing of holidays here either!
Poor birdie. I bet the residence really miss that bird! Will you be getting another one?
DeleteAny animals there are a wonderful addition, I would think.
Betsy we had a parakeet named Muffy when our children were small. Oh my I do think that bird was just crazy. A loving aunt and uncle gave the children the pet without asking me and Marvin first!! I have to say I was kind of glad when Muffy kicked the bucket. I have never been a bird lover and changing that cage was just a trial every time I did it. I think just cats sounds lovely.
ReplyDeleteA pet without asking....hahaha....oh my! So funny! Well, to me...not to you! Birds aren't for everyone! They are messy and loud (as you found out!) I was sad that they died but not sad enough to replace them. It was different before we had cats and they could be let out of their cage every day. I always felt like they weren't having as much fun when the cats came. haha.
DeleteNumbers 1,3,4,5....I concur! Big time!
ReplyDeleteNumber 2....sorry for your loss!
Number 6....have fun! Almost went to one the other day, but chickened out because I didn't know what to expect nor how they work. Silly reasons, right?
Auctions are a learn as you go kind of thing! The first few I went to I couldn't understand a word the auctioneer was saying! haha. (and I was working there...rough learning for me!) Just go and observe if that helps...that's fun, too!
DeleteThat is waaaay too early to decorate
ReplyDeletePfft to that much decorating at any gate
Just cats now
With plenty to meow
Won't even be buying anything here for under any tree
No auction withdraw at your sea?
No gifts isn't all that bad
Deletejust enjoy the day and eat a tad.
No muss no fuss no spending and wrapping
just your sweet face to initiate some clapping.
hahahaha...what, they don't appreciate you?
Oh, I know that just isn't true!
Hi Betsy, I always enjoy your random thoughts :-) I so agree, why not to leave the leaves on the ground?! such a beauty!! In Czech Republic where I am from we always used to rake the leaves in the Autumn. Here In Belgium I was suprised to find out that people usually dont do it. They say that the leaves will decompose and it is good for the soil. So they only clean the rests in the Spring. And I love this. Firstly we get to enjoy the leaves on the ground. And there is really not reason to rake them before the winter.
ReplyDeleteAs for the Christmas decorations ... I hate when they start with Christmas decorations in October already! Nonsense!! Lets slow down and enjoy each holidays. We do not celebrate Thanksgiving in Europe (which is a shame really it could be easily added just for the simple fact to remind us to be thankful for all the good in our lives) but even so I prefer to start with Christmas decorations in December only. This year I may start with a little deco here and there the last week of November as we will be traveling the first December week and after it would be just too much stress and doing at once. As we have always a fresh Christmas tree we get it and decorate it only two weeks before Christmas day. So here are my random thoughts. Maybe just one more. I am loving the colours we have here in the November, as you mentioned all the warm shades of yellow orange red brown and green in between. The blue skies (well not recently as we are having heavy rains) but even the gray sky matches beautifully the rest of it. Ok I am stopping full stop! :-) happy Thursday Betsy!
Well, I love that idea about the leaves decomposing and feeding the earth. How true! And yes...beautiful and less work!
DeleteYay, another one that doesn't want to rush the fall with Christmas! When I was a little girl we would get a live tree with a root ball. It could only be inside for 2 weeks and then we would plant it. We used to get a fresh tree here, too, which is very nice. And now maybe we're just old and want the convenience of a fake tree. haha.
The Mister loves our Thanksgiving day to be gray! Isn't that funny? He says it reminds him of Thanksgivings as a child. Golden leaves, gray sky and the smell of wonderful food inside. It's his favorite holiday. No commercialism...just being thankful. Yes, every country should do it! I'm surprised it hasn't caught on over there.
Carter disagrees with your "stop the raking" comment, lol, he LOVES to rake leaves (and shovel snow) It's the strangest thing! I wish he felt the same way about vacuuming and dusting!
ReplyDeleteOh, I knew he loved to shovel snow...but raking leaves, too? He's destined for a landscaping business, isn't he? :)
Delete#4. DD says your home should not look like you threw up Christmas. I agree. My bd the first week in Christmas. I like to have the work of the decorating done before that. DH has his bd the first week of January and he likes the Christmas stuff to be gone by his day. It is a busy season for us.
