Early Dusk

In these early weeks of fall, I'm loving the jeans,
sweaters, and slippers....and the apples and the leaves that are
barely starting to turn colors here in Ohio.  Fall is wonderful!
But the one thing I don't like is the daylight ending earlier
and earlier....or beginning later and later!
I'm really dreading Daylight Savings Time when it's pitch
black before dinner!  I had ice cream after dinner tonight
probably for the last time.  It always makes me cold, which
feels great in the summer.  But right now I'm sitting here
shivering!  Time to turn my nightly dessert into a cup of hot tea!

  1. I'm a sunshine boy and rather sad the weather is getting colder but my darling daughter bought me a dressing gown and a warm coat to keep me warm through the winter . . . :)

    1. How sweet of her! Now you're all set for the cold months. Was it for your birthday?
I think your birthday is in October, right?

  2. I love jeans and sweater weather. Not the short days though. On the bright side the days get longer Dec 22! Lol

    1. It's always a shock when it's dark at 5pm. That's the only part I hate. Makes me feel sleepy at dinner time!

  3. I was just about to make tea!
I feel the same way. Autumn is my favourite time of year but the darkness gets to me. Beautiful, waning light in your photo.

  4. I am not a happy bunny in the cold weather, like Eddie I am a "sunshine" boy. When I see the leaves falling and the flowers fading my mood changes, but not for the better. Roll on the Spring!

    1. You need vitamin D3. 2000 mgs daily. It really helps that SAD....the mister gets that during the winter. He needs his sunshine!

    2. Aren't you his little ray of sunshine? . . :)

    3. I already take D3 daily, but it doesn't seem to help. I'll just go back to the Mother Ship and check on why it works for Earthlings, but not me! Ha!

  5. We're not there yet. However, I did wear jeans to the grocery store today. I loved that it was cool enough to wear them. I'm usually in shorts and flip flops til November. I don't like it getting dark so early, either. Even so, I do love fall!

    1. It is still warm here in the afternoons...the socks and sweater comes off! haha.
I'm most excited to see the leaves turn...saw just the tops of the trees today. Can't wait!

  6. I hate the short days too. I feel like I go to work in the dark, and shortly after I come home, it's dark again! I wish they would just quite the daylight savings time. :)

  7. I love your "early dusk" photo. Just stunning. Tahoe was jeans and sweaters, not we are back in the valley in sleeveless tops and flip flops.

    The new header....Love it.

  8. Hi Betsy - the daylight wheels are a-turning ... I do love it sometimes when one can hunker down - but so often so much going on. Your gargoyle reigns supreme now .. cheers Hilary

    1. I agree...the early darkness can be cozy but if you have to be out and about it feels like midnight! haha.

  10. Ugg to the cold
Means snow may soon take hold
And as you know without saying
    I hate such a displaying
Having to sit in the car and wait for it to warm too
    Is annoying at my zoo
But Daylight savings time I'll take
Back in hour makes getting up early easy to shake
    They should leave it alone
Or do my half hour ahead/back once idea and then forever hold the phone

  11. The days are drawing in here as well Betsy. We are right on the line between eastern time and central time so in December it is dark at 4:30!!

  13. I'm having trouble this year, too. It doesn't help that the temperature isn't fall-like. Last night when hubby and I took a walk I had on capris and he was wearing shots.

    1. Goodness....I haven't worn shorts in a week. It warms up in the afternoon but that just means my socks come off. I am wearing a t-shirt today, though, with my jeans. It's the season of layers!

  14. Beautiful shot of the dusk light, and I'm coveting your biscuit-barrels :)
I tend to like the shorter, cooler days, I remember walking home from school, on dark nights, dark at 4:30, the shop lights would light the way home...

  15. I told dh yesterday I am so grateful for pleasant, cooler days. The shorter days are an adjustment but a nice change. Your gargoyle looks great!
