Scavenging

I'm always amazed when I see wrens around here during
the winter!  They eat insects instead of seed, so the feeders
aren't any help at all to them!  I spotted this one popping
in and out of my bird house and knew it was much too
soon to be house hunting!  When I took a closer look
I could see he was cleaning it out of all the dead bugs
he could find.  Given the cobwebs around it,
I'm guessing he found a meal!

  4. Well, I'm glad he found the dead bugs. He got word of a warm up and started with appetizers, I guess. Love the birdhouse. It looks like a little log cabin. And the snow on the roof is just so cute. Great picture.

  5. I've got wrens, and starlings, and bluebirds scurrying to and fro around here... nesting time! They are all trying to find the perfect one. Won't be long now! (Love this picture, by the way.)

    1. Your birds are going to nest, raise their broods and have grand-birds before we're to the nesting stage. haha.

  10. Oh I'm so glad she got a good meal out of it. I didn't know wrens didn't eat seeds. It is a darling capture. As Suza mentioned on fb, that dallop of snow on the roof just makes the shot perfect.

    1. Maybe I should let him inside
      and here he could reside
cleaning the spiders out or the corners
the kind that live as little loners.
Wonder what the cats would think.
Might push the parakeets to the brink.
      haha.

  14. Hi Betsy - wonderful photo .. and how birds cope when the weather is warm, cold, warm, cold .. etc - we're having that at the moment ... freezing at night, yet they say 15 degC by the weekend - bliss, I say! Cheers Hilary
