Gift Baskets

I had an order for 5 gift baskets last week.
I always enjoy shopping for and putting these together!
This little business of Betsy's Baskets is 26 years old...
I can't believe that! haha.  It isn't a huge business and I
don't market it or advertise at all...just let the business
come to me and I'm happy the small size allows me to
do other things...like etsy! :)

My gift baskets are custom made and I always ask
what they would like in the basket...a theme or whatever.
99% of the time they say they don't care...just something nice.
Well, my favorite thing to do for that is to compile a group of
items that would be generally appreciated by most people.
Coffee, tea, gourmet chocolate, nuts and snacks
are my go-to.  And depending on the gender...
a candle, mug and other things can be added.
I try to choose items that coordinate by color.
That might be my OCD speaking, but I think it makes
for a nicer looking basket when it's all put together.

These turned out to be predominately blue
and full of beautiful things to eat and drink.
Yum.

  1. Very nice. Gift baskets are always a good present aren't they?
We get some at work each Christmas. We take everything out and stick a raffle ticket on each item. And then we pick a ticket and see what we win. It's great fun but we do appreciate the kindness of those who send us gifts.

    1. What a great idea...makes it even more fun! Most of the baskets I make are for businesses. I always imagine the edible items being shared in the break room and the other things raffled off.

  2. Hi Betsy - they always look amazing ... I'd scrumple everything and it'd look 'mussed up' ... wonderful and great because you're acting on your own you can customise the baskets ... brilliant idea .. 26 years - well done .. that's a great life of gift-basketing ... cheers Hilary

  3. Creating Baskets must be fun. Love your creativity.
Do you build on one special item for inspiration?

(Love blue and love to eat!)

    1. Yes, usually. With these I found a pretty package of coffee and started with that.

  4. I can see why your customers like them, recommend them and come back for more year in, year out. They are so smart and well appointed and universally appealing as presents for people in a variety of ways. A great marketing concept. Congrats on the 26 years. I think you could develop this into quite a big business if you wanted to . . and had the time . . . :) I am sure you would do very well on a programme here called Dragon's Den . . . :)

    1. I used to do much more...sent fliers out for holidays, etc. Valentine's Day was big for the men to order. It almost got to be too big with orders for a holiday...there is only so much time to make them all for one day of delivery! And I was too OCD to hire help....haha...I have to have my hands on each one. lol....

    2. Interesting . . . I did wonder whether you might be reluctant to lose the 'Hands On' feel to the business if you farmed it out . . . You are such a resourceful young lady . . . :)

    1. Yeah, I just kind of let that carry the orders...this was a new client, so
maybe that will grow into some repeats!

  9. When I can't think of a suitable present for someones birthday or Christmas, I buy a lot of tinned stuff that I think they would like for their store cupboard, i.e., beans, soup, carrots, peas, custard,all-day-breakfast etc. Pack them all into a cardboard box, wrap it in brown paper and draw a big Red Cross with the words "Survival Kit" on it! Usually goes down well.

  10. Very pretty. Gift baskets are such fun. I love being able to see what's inside without unwrapping them right away. Something about peeking and poking that I like!
