What's For Dinner?

  1. Grilled flat iron steak and steamed garlicky broccoli.
  2. A 'throw everything in a skillet' meal.  Teriyaki chicken, red skinned potatoes, yams, bell peppers, onions, garlic and frozen peas.
  3. Crab cakes and waldorf slaw.
  4. Another skillet meal.  Zucchini, cherry tomatoes, tri-color peppers, onions, garlic, ham, Italian seasoning and parmesan.
  5. Soup and salad.
  6. Sauteed potatoes, peppers, onions, mushrooms, garlic and spinach. Topped with an over-easy egg.
Have you made anything tasty lately?

  1. Yum!! It all looks so delicious Betsy! It is late at night here and I feel like having some of those yummy foods :-) I did not do anything especially yummy over here as I am still blending the food for my little one, so trying to keep it simple ... I admire how you cook and how tasty it always looks. My little secret is 'I wish I had a cook' ... I cook fresh every day and I try to make it as healthy as possible but I really do not enjoy cooking .... :-( .... shhhhh

    1. I would never have guessed you didn't enjoy cooking! You sure fooled me! The few things
I've seen that you're eating always look nutritious and delish! haha. Having a cook would be
wonderful, wouldn't it? Sometimes I wish I could just sit down and have a beautiful plate of
food presented to me. I tease the mister that this is what he gets every night...he doesn't
know how lucky he is! lol....I guess that's why we ladies love to go out to eat.

    2. Your Mister is certainly very lucky!!! :-) you know I was not trying to fool anyone, I really do cook fresh and I really do not enjoy it that much ... lol .... I actually started to cook properly once my son was born ... I wanted for him to have a good home made meals :-) and I do it with love for him and all of us ... but if I could chose between a cook or any other household help I would take the cook!! .... haha ...

  6. The last one is one I make very often, but without the egg. Good idea, I'll try that next time.

My version consists of sauteed potatoes, peppers, onions, mushrooms, garlic, celery and finely chopped bacon (kosher, of course!). I add a little Harissa paste as well just to make it sparkle! In the Mother Country, especially in Leicestershire that, and various versions of it, is referred to as 'Frumpy Mix'.

    1. Frumpy Mix? OK...that made me laugh. What would you call it with the egg on top?

    2. And is there such thing as Kosher bacon?

    3. I think you would call it "A mess"!

A Jewish acquaintance told me he always enjoys a Kosher bacon sandwich when his family or the rabbi isn't around. So it must be kosher then!

    4. Maybe it's cured beef instead of pork.

  10. Mouth-watering and so colourful! Boy, those look like tasty meals.
I have not really cooked anything lately as I have been fêted a lot so sometimes, to balance it all out, I just have cereal and yoghurt for dinner. Last night was some melted sharp cheddar on a toasted English muffin and a hard-boiled egg. I often have brekkie for dinner.

  15. Hi Betsy - looks delicious and lunch is nearly with us - I'm pleased to say. I made a chicken for the soul hot pot last week - that was good ... and quite often use salmon with spinach ... I'll do a roast tomorrow night - but tend to cook what's around - as fresh as I can ... they all look so good! Cheers Hilary

  18. Betsy, I NEVER manage to make anything that looks half as tasty or healthy as your creations. You really have the knack of making a wonderful home in all ways. I often get inspiration from your photos and descriptions. I even own a little jar of poppy seeds now, for the first time in over 40 years of cooking!

    1. Well, thank you! I appreciate that. I do love all things domestic. And how fun you bought poppy seeds...I think they make that slaw look pretty. :)
