Snapping Beans

One of those mindless chores that's kind of fun....
and I think the snapping sound is a little addictive!

  1. Podding peas is fun too. And freshly prodded peas are better than any other peas.

    2. It's probably worth growing a few pea plants of you have the room (and better soil than we have in our N London garden) just to take advantage of the freshly picked fabulous sweetness.

  4. I agree... Your beans looks very fresh. Now, how did you cook them? Sauteed, steamed or something else? Love the close-up....great photography!

    1. I cook them in salted boiling water just a few minutes...we like them tender crisp, not limp. Then a little kosher salt on them...that's it! Yum!

    2. That's a very 'northern' way of cooking them, I'm guessing.....no slow cook with ham/bacon until mushy. haha...

    3. Oh, but those mushy beans taste so good. The older generation tend to cook their's with the bacon til mushy. We actually like them steamed the best. But your way sounds really good, too.

    4. My way actually tastes exactly the same as steaming...it's just a little faster to do. I don't mind the mushy ones, really..I've had them a few times. :)

    1. Throw him a bean and let him play soccer.
Unless he would be scared and let out a holler,
      haha.

    2. haha the dog there would eat it
And he'd run from her a bit

    3. Is this after he bites the tail
and the dog lets out a wail?

    4. The tail one runs away
      Not liking the biting display
      Orlin is proud
Until the big mutt joins the crowd

to keep the ego in check.
      Wanting to go home
where he rules all that roam.

  9. Used to snap green beans on my grandma's front porch. Newspaper covering the lap with a pile of green beans to work on.....and more waiting in a five gallon bucket. Good memories.

  11. Good morning Betsy, snapping beans I did not know we call them that ... Funny name, we love them here and yes, choping the ends feels like never ending story sometimes :-) I love the how the garden girl smiles in every season (jumping back to your previous post as I had no time to comment. After one week of mid term break I seem not be able to get into the swing of things especially the early mornings which would bring me to your Thankful list and I would put a COFFEE on it! :-) happy day!

    1. We don't call them that, I was saying 'snapping beans' as an activity. I've used a knife on occasion, too, when I'm in a hurry!

Takes me home again and back to Grandma's all at the same time.
    Love fresh green beans!
We had a dachshund when we were little girls who would pick her own beans. When we went to pick there were often half eaten ones because Katie had been down the row.
