Random Thoughts

Me, today.

  1. Thankful for long hair.  Pin it up when it's hot...or you're having a bad hair day. haha....With this humidity, every day is a bad hair day!
  2. We haven't had rain in two days!  It's a miracle!  Sunday was the last time it rained and it went out with a bang...literally!  Lightning struck close to our house and took the power out for a few hours. No nascar watching for me.  Sigh!  What awful timing!  But I'll win this coming Sunday, as I will be AT the race.  Yippee for me!
  3. A few of you have asked how Star is doing.  She's doing very well! (for those that don't know she was a rescue kitty, abused, starved, sick and near death).  She's a sweet little thing and her health is improving each week.  I mentioned to someone this week that she has put on enough weight to be upgraded to 'terribly thin'.  Poor girl.  What a rough time she has had.  She's grateful, though, for her new home here. Some nights she sleeps on my pillow and rests her head on mine. Aw.
  4. Don't you hate it when you walk into your grocery store and they have rearranged all the isles?  You have to walk down each one and look for things.  Your old comfortable place is suddenly foreign and unfamiliar.  Thankfully, they hadn't moved the sorbets and ice cream yet. haha....I found my favorites without any trouble!
  5. Feeling a little blue lately about autism.  99% of the time I am accepting of this in our family, but gosh...every once in a while I mourn what cannot be.  The guys are 21.  They should be graduating college, finding jobs and wives and apartments. Instead, I'm making sure their shirts aren't on backwards and tying their shoes.  But this, too, is part of the wonder of life with it's ups and downs.  Life isn't fair and was never promised to be.  Thank God he will show us how it all makes sense one day and how it fits into a story much bigger than our own.
  6. I stopped by my favorite sweet corn farm for the first time today. Picked up 2 dozen ears of Silver King.  Can't wait to eat it tomorrow when T & L are here!
  7. Speaking of Taylor and Lauren, it's their 2nd wedding anniversary today! My, how time flies.  We helped them move into a new apartment over the weekend.  It's a gorgeous place...so happy for them and especially happy that they are still close by!

  1. Congratulations to Taylor and Lauren. And well done your local shop for NOT moving the ice cream/ sorbets. I hate to think of you without access to pink ice cream. Are you ever energetic enough to make your own? I used to. I have a great book full of recipes like rosemary sorbet or basil and orange. Yum. I guess we all have to keep on going whatever life throws at us. And for the most part you seem to be so cheerful and unselfish about your lot it is an inspiration. I keep on trying to email you my crisp thoughts but keep falling asleep! Life is very tiring at work lately. Our new manager is trying too hard and we spend a lot of exhausting time clearing up after him. He means so well. But....

    1. Yes, I might have to go into a panic if I can't find my favorites! haha...I did buy more pink sorbet today. :) I have an electric ice cream maker...haven't gotten it out this year yet. Homemade sure is delicious and incredibly easy...I've just been lazy!

No rush on your wish list, you know....just whenever!

  2. Oh what a felt good post. Your random thoughts just make me thankful for so many little things. You have such a grip on life and what it hands us.

I like shopping at the same place...because you can find what you want. When we moved I had to get use to all new stores. The only one that was similar was Trader Joes.

I just love that Star sleeps on your pillow and snuggles in your hair. She is showing her gratitude for a home.

No way..... 2 years.... but then Monique and Eddie's is one year....

Thanks for a wonderful random day.

Love Trader Joes...I rarely go...it's about 40 minutes from me and not on my way to anywhere else. I should just make a fun trip of it soon.

I get that..sometimes I would like my son do what is the 'norm' then I tell myself that he is doing the norm for him.
Grocery stores know how to mess with our minds:)
Good to see Star has settled in so well.

  6. What a sweet post--all the highs and lows of what's going on with you today :-)

I always have hair problems in the summer. No matter how much product I put on it, it does whatever if wants to.

  7. Loved the photos . . . but I, like everyone else, loves the lady in them . . . :)
I would have thought long hair up would be quite hot up there in this weather . .
Bad luck about the power going down and you missing Nascar. I know how much you love that.
Great you are seeing a live race next w/e. I think I remember you going twice last year.
Great about little Star and cute how she snuggles up to you ~ she must really value you . . :)
Yes, always confusing when a store has a re-arrangement ~ takes fore ever finding everything.
Really understand and feel for you about point 5, You are a remarkable lady and The Mister is a remarkable man the way you have managed it . . and I believe you have had help from above . . :)
Happy Wedding Anniversary to T&L and great about their move . . . :)

  8. I totally agree about the rearranged store shelves! Arghhhh. Sitting in the Salt Lake City airport waiting for my connection to Minneapolis, Carl's younger brother by a mere eleven months is having surgery tomorrow ~ prostate cancer, all indications point to a good recovery.

PS, love your hair all tied up and back.

  12. such a beauty you are Miss Betsy!
I will admit we think of you often, we mention you in conversation because of our Gracie, my Lyndsy has one child with Autism we often say if Betsy can manage with three autistic children we can surely manage one, but some days she feels like twenty kids, lol, I'm so glad your rescue kitty is doing well, our Kelly has just taken in another stray, with five pellet shot wounds festering in its sides, so sad, so again you come up in conversation, lol, my gosh we should be neighbors or at least related!!!! Wonderful that Lauren and Taylor remain close!!

  13. Ok... cute picture! But personally, I love long hair DOWN... even mussy, and fazzled, and fly-away, it is still "alluring" to us old men! Ok... to ME, anyway. Just sayin'..... And your post touched my heart today... I've often wondered how you have managed so well with your triplets, and how it must be taxing on you sometimes . I know we all get those "down" days, but the really strong ones bounce right back for more. Anyway, I'm belaboring the point I guess.... sorry. You just got to me.

    1. Doesn't like long hair up....ok, got it! Now if you say you don't like freckles, I'm doomed....lol....at least in the summer. :)
Bounce right back up....yep, that's what we do. Not necessarily because we want to, but because we have a job to do and nobody is going to do it if we don't. haha....and being Wonder Woman helps, too, right? :)

  14. My favorite grocery store has been stirred up into a froth this year. I am absolutely tempted at times to find a new place to shop but I really hate the alternatives. Trying to tell myself it's good for my brain and memory.
Life in the Memory Care Unit leaves me often feeling that life is just a cruel joke. Deep inside I know much different, but there are days when the emotions are overwhelming. I'm sure it doesn't really compare to dealing with children who struggle with autism...
    It was a long day.

  17. Hi Betsy - lovely photo and congratulations to Taylor and Lauren ... two years - great news. Gosh new apartment too ... Then the boys - you are doing a brilliant job with them - it must be tough all round, but your positivity shines through. It's always encouraging and supportive being here - we learn, we share with you, and we go away knowing that life isn't fair - but we deal with it. I have not had your difficulties, yet know that I've turned on my heel and carried on with my journey ... we have to ... good luck with it all ... cheers and thoughts - Hilary. PS if you've any extra hair - please send it over here ... I feel like a man slowly receding! Not ready for a wig yet though!! Just some growing follicles would help!! Have a happy day today ...

    1. No extra hair here...haha....mine isn't nearly as thick as it was when I was young! Can I blame the boys? lol....

Attitude is a choice, of course....and why not be positive...it's so much more pleasant than the alternative!

  19. Hi Betsy, anything in particular that brought on the autism blues? Really can't be helped sometimes, and I think it's good to release the emotions on occasion instead of keeping them repressed all the time, before picking yourself up and doing what you need to do.

Nice to see the photo of yourself!

    1. Well, that's a good question. Maybe it was moving Taylor and Lauren and how fun that was and the satisfaction of seeing them happy and doing well. I miss watching that kind of thing with the boys....all the things that could have been but won't.

  24. First, congratulations to Lauren and Taylor. 2 years? It only seemed like last week they got married, please pass on my good wishes.
That picture of you is lovely, but why do you try to hide your face behind coffee cups and cameras? Thankfully you cannot hide your beautiful personality, it always shines through. Reading your blog everyday is a real good tonic for me, better than anything the doctor can prescribe!

    2. Our local supermarket went through a phase of changing things around just to make people search and stay in the shop longer. According to our local paper, who did a survey, they admitted they had lost some customers to the other big supermarket. They also admitted they had a lot of complaints in-store and and some "very critical emails"! I hope they now realise they can't mess with the Brits and get away with it.

      Delete
    3. I do believe I have learned that you can't mess with the Brits!

One nice thing about the stores doing that...the shelves all get cleaned and straightened up. And the damaged cans, etc, get sold at a very deep discount. I bought several of the clearance items...I don't care if the can has a dent!

  25. You are looking terrific! I like to have my hair long enough to pull up and away in the summer too. You so inspire me with you up beat attitude and kindness you give those around you. (including the 4 foot-ers). Some days take us to those thoughts of what might be. Mourning of any kind comes in waves. We all need to be grateful but some days it is just easier than others. I hope you realize what a real inspiration you are to many of us. We have a fellow about 35 yo in our neighborhood. I don't exactly know what his deal is but he is special. He gets around on a bike and we all love him. Many afternoons he wanders by for a soda and chat. One day his grandma called him while he was here. He lives with her. I could hear her voice so sweet and loving replying to his chatter. I try to remember that when I am having tough day. She is what love is all about and I get the feeling you are too. Hugs to you.
