I saw a cute idea on Pinterest last year to hang a basket
outside and see if a bird would make a nest in it.
So this weekend I dug through my basket collection,
picked this chicken wire basket and added some
crinkly paper grass to the bottom.
The Mister hung it outside my nook in the kitchen for me.
Now the waiting begins.
It would be fun to see a nest and eggs in it!
Here's the original picture.
How cute is that?
♥
Good luck!
ReplyDeleteIt's worth a try, right? :)
DeleteThat would be so much fun to watch the eggs hatch and then watch the birds grow and leave the nest. Hope birds find it and move in.
ReplyDeleteWouldn't it? I couldn't hang it in a tree because the cats would get in it...so from the rooftop seemed safe...and near a window so I could watch! Nobody seems interested yet, but maybe the snow has dampened their mood for housekeeping. ha.
DeleteAdorable!
ReplyDeleteAt least...perhaps they will take a few strands for their nests...
I will hang some wool bits at the cottage, for the Orioles...
Good luck!
Cheers!
Linda :o)
Well, that's true...they might see it as a Home Improvement store and take supplies! lol....
DeleteOh, my goodness!! A basket full of beauty! If you build it they will come. ;) blessings ~ tanna
ReplyDeleteWell, that's what I'm hoping! It would be fun if they used it!
DeleteGosh I thought the end result had come very quickly at first . . . lol
ReplyDeleteGreat idea and well located and you can see what is going on very well . . . you might get some great shots . . . :)
I hope so! I haven't seen anyone even take a fly-by as of yet, though. ha.
DeleteIt will take them time to get used to it and to suss it out . . .
DeleteI expect when they find it and like it they might claim it and do a 'victory roll' . . . haha
keep us posted . . :)
If they don't take to it, maybe I can find another more attractive spot for them.
DeleteI'll have to think like a bird and see what I can come up with.
Like a bird-brain, right? :)
No, you are a much nicer bird than that . . . the unfeathered variety . . . lol
DeleteWell, I'm glad you think so! ha.
DeleteHow fun! I hope someone cute and feathery decides it will make a great nesting place.
ReplyDeleteI'm looking forward to the photographs.
:0)
It would be fun to watch! I hope it looks appealing to some little couple!
DeleteYou never know
ReplyDeleteWho may show
Could be a few
Or just two
Two posts in one day
I thought you were getting greedy at your bay

Saving that for May? lol

But a dormitory it might be
if it goes by the thoughts of thee!
ha.
Co-ed too
DeletePlenty of action to come due lol
Giving it the college try?
That we have no idea why
ha...well, it IS spring break.
DeleteMaybe of my generosity they will partake!
I hope it works!
ReplyDeleteIt would be pretty fun if it did, wouldn't it?
DeleteNo takers, yet, though...not even a look.
Maybe it needs a for sale sign. ha.
I've had birds nest in all kinds of containers, these days sadly we've stopped feeding and encouraging the birds, mainly because our Tom-Tilly kitty is a hunter and loves nothing more than to pluck the birds right from the feeders, I'm hoping she will grow out of it, but I'm not holding my breath.
ReplyDeleteI love the idea of them choosing your basket to build their nest !
Good Luck Betsy.

We have a few cats that are excellent bird hunters. I've had to move my feeders up high in the trees..higher than the the cats can leap. We have to stand on a ladder now to fill the feeders!
DeleteOh I hope you have lodgers very soon. I bet they will arrive and think they've hit the motherlode!
ReplyDeleteI hope so!
DeleteLove this and that mister of yours is wonderful! Hope there is some fun to watch in the basket. Last week while I was gone a big old road runner was on the roof eating a pretty good sized lizard. Dh got a great picture of it, I should have a blog so I could share. We don't see them often but it is always so fun to spot them. Quail have been pretty active lately about the 'hood too. Hummingbirds are out now in force. Spring is the best! Can't wait to see what shows up for you! Taria
ReplyDeleteYes, you need a blog! I'm not sure I'd be able to identify a real road runner, unless they were in cartoon form and said Meep, Meep! haha.
DeleteWhen I lived in Arizona I always left the back door cracked so the cats could come and go and I heard a strange noise coming from the kitchen and when I went to investigate there was a cactus wren sitting on the island helping himself to a plate of cookies....miss the quail, they are so cute! Janet
DeleteJanet, you need a blog, too! I had to laugh at leaving the door cracked open for the cats. We have a cat flap and only once have we had a cat that didn't belong to us let themselves in. Usually our cats take turns sitting just inside the flap as if they are guarding the entrance from intruders! So, if someone gets in, they've been approved. haha. Anyway, last night I was standing in the kitchen and a new-to-me cat rounded the corner toward the cat food station as if he'd been here before and knew his way around! We startled each other and he meowed at me a few times and ran out! haha....I suspect he will be back. I told the mister that we didn't have to adopt him...he adopted us!
DeleteI can't believe that about the wren and the cookies...how adorable! Wrens are one of my favorites...so much personality and so perky!
And the frog....I would have let him stay, too. How cute is that!
I've had birds make their nests in my hanging flower baskets quite a few times....I love it when that happens!
Good luck with this. I hope you are successful. But don't you think those doves look very tame? I wonder how long they took to get trained to that basket?
ReplyDeleteThe doves were hatched in that nest hanging in the basket! No training needed.
DeleteI used to have hanging baskets outside our bedroom windows....I kept hearing this gosh awful screeching and came to find out a grey treefrog had set up house in one of them. He was so cute I didn't have the heart to move him. so we just put up with his mouthyness :) Janet
ReplyDeleteI'd love that to happen...what a cute little frog. The only thing that has taken up residence outside our bedroom windows has been crickets! Not so much fun. :)
DeleteThat's alotta birds in a basket! Cool idea though. Must be much warmer where you are.
ReplyDeleteThank you for commenting on my blog. I want differing opinions and I sometimes think people of the Conservative bent are hesitant to comment or just dismissive. Makes me happy you took the time.
lol...well, I have to admit I felt like I was venturing into hostile territory! I'm always amazed at what politics will bring out of people. Most of us would never react to others in that way if it was about race, ethnicity, religion, etc but people don't think twice about being rude and saying demeaning things about others or their spouses, etc....just because they have different political opinions. Why can't we be more tolerant of others and agree to disagree in a kind way? After all...we all love our country. We are all Americans.
DeleteYou're an exceptional lady and I wish I were more like you. We are all Americans. I'm not the most tolerant, that's for sure. My folks were very conservative although I think my mother went along with my dad to keep him happy. I'm not so sure she cared all that much. I went in the other direction.
DeleteI was planning to have an omelette for dinner, but seeing after seeing your post I think will have "Chicken in a basket with fries" instead. Yum!
ReplyDeleteMake double...I'm on my way!
