Grocery Helper

I usually go to the grocery while the boys are
gone for the day, so when one gets to come with me,
it's a real treat for both of us!

Alex especially enjoys it and helps pick things out.
He always gets to choose a few treats
and I love the smiles and happy sounds
he makes all through the store.

He knew I was taking pictures with my phone
so he wasn't about to look at me. ha.
Love this boy.

    1. Those boys eat one bunch a day.
That will only last 3 days at my bay!
But the bag of cashews should please you
as I know you eat those, too!

    2. Wow, that is a lot of bananas indeed
Oh yeah, eat those at my feed
Could down that bag in a day or two
The jars of cashews are best as they can double to scoop cat do do

    3. haha...wondered what you were using these days.
Good to have the jar do a double play!

(My kids still like picking out treats too.)

    1. Letting them get treats never gets old, does it? I've been known to text big married kids at work and ask if they need anything and put it in their fridge on my way home. ha. Sometimes I don't text first... a total surprise is even more fun. :)

    2. Well, that's the fun, easy part, right? :)

    1. We would have bought more if there was some really green ones, too! :)

    2. They keep quite a bit longer if you keep them in the fridge. But you probably already know that.

      Delete
    3. I was always taught not to refrigerate bananas...something about the taste and turning the skins black, if I recall. But I don't know for sure because I've never done it! lol...So, it works for you? I wouldn't have room in the fridge anyway.
I use those Fresher Longer produce bags, which work well. But we usually have them gone before the green skin turns freckly. haha.

      Delete
    4. I was taught that too... so when my parents started doing it I found it very odd and refused to believe that they lasted any longer. But they do! And of course you can buy them quite green that way and they last longer in the fridge. Yes - the skins do turn black - but it does not affect the fruit at all. Refrigerating them just slows the ripening process and, as I live alone, it's more efficient. I know your family goes through a lot of them, but you might want to try it some time if you all of a sudden hit a banana bonanza! Try saying that three times fast. Ha!

    5. That is still good to know...I may resort to that in the summer when the fruit flies try to camp out here. ha.

    6. Grocery shopping is not high on my list of Likes. If I had a help, I'm sure it would be more fun. Cute nonchalant picture!

    1. He loves it SO much, I've actually thought of letting him play hookie once in a while just to go with me. Maybe I'll do that this summer. :)

    1. Taking one is fun...it's slower and not as efficient but fun and I enjoy it occasionally. Can't take all three, though...that would be impossible....haha.

    2. Yes . . . . they would be careering round the stores with their trolleys like Nascar racers . . . .
      I see JG finished 9th but was 3rd . . . . . did someone cut him up?
No, I understand it would be difficult with all three by yourself . . . . :)

    3. Oh, I wouldn't let them all have a cart! haha. Spencer runs over everyone in his path and goes too fast. The other two don't steer well at all. Spencer is always a flight risk...lol....I'd be sure to loose one somewhere.

No wrecks for Gordon. Ninth almost felt like a win at this point. ha.

    4. I see . . . better to let them chose something for the cart ~ I expect you find it funny we call the trolleys ha.
Saw your comment about Taylor liking matchbox toys ~ so did I when I was a boy. We have a bridge in Bristol called The Clifton Suspension Bridge and 200ft below is a road full of traffic. I am told when I was 3 I thought these were little matchbox toys and I climbed up the side and reached over the edge trying to get them ~ lol ~ so nearly no Ed . . .

      Yes 9th is much better than being wrecked . . . . . . he got 35 points I think.

    5. I didn't realize they had Matchbox Cars in 1457!

When I'd bring the boys to the grocery store they each got to pick out ONE thing. I'd watch them ponder their choice all the way through the store.

  16. Such fun to go shopping with your son. What good times! I wish my son would enjoy that but it's really hard for him to go to public places.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. They do tolerate the grocery quite well, but most public places they do not like, so I can completely sympathize. And it's different with each of them. A couple of summers ago we were on the road and stopped at a Red Robin for dinner and Spencer cried the whole dinner...too much noise and stimulation. Poor guy. Most places that are crowded, loud, etc...they just can't handle....so we're hermits most of the time.

  19. Alex looks happy, I suppose it's like Aladdin's Cave for him at the supermarket. I bet your purse felt a lot lighter on the way home.

All those chips to choose from! In my local shop we only have a shelf full, not a very big selection. Next time you go shopping I'll go with you, and even push the trolley for you! Ha.

  21. Patty, my wife of 60 years, read that you are supposed to eat bananas when the skin is "almost black or really ripe," as she says. I never liked them that way or when they get soft and mushy but I don't like them really green either.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. I agree with you....they have to have just turned yellow...not green any longer but no freckles, either! It's a very short window of time when they are perfect..just one or two days! haha.
