We've been waiting on counter tops to come and they finally
did yesterday! Then we started in on hanging lights and Kris
our contractor put in the sink and faucet. He's also done kind
of boring little things I didn't photograph, like some wiring, a
kick plate around the bottom of the cupboards, and moving
a furnace duct under the house. So, I'm totaling up all those
little jobs and calling this Day 17.
We really feel like we're on the home stretch!
Next week we will get the back splash, ceiling fan in the family room,
and black wood end pieces on the cupboards and around the island!
Installing those quartz counter tops put a new layer of dust
on things. You just have to laugh by now. :)
♥
Looks great, and even better when you move that stuff out of the window area! Joke! Don't shoot!
ReplyDeleteLet's play "Spot the Cat".
DeleteYou mean the hanging plants? ha. Well, I have to have a little living green, you know.
DeleteSo you did see the cat? There's always one nearby. ha.
Betsy, It all looks so pretty. I know the dust is frustrating. You have so many unique collectibles to display.
ReplyDeleteYes, but soon it will be done and maybe a cleaning will last longer than a day. haha. It's still better than that first dust...my, oh my!
DeleteI beat Ediie to first place today!
ReplyDeleteYou certainly did...and so did a few others!
DeleteYes . . . slow reflexes today . . . lol
DeleteIt all looks gorgeous, Betsy. Wow...that is a big kitchen. I think it may be bigger than the apt. I'm moving into soon. Love the cupboards and that cute little cat already at the table. Deb
ReplyDeleteI think it might be bigger than your cute little carriage house! haha. Our kitchen feels twice as big as it did before but we didn't move any walls! Must have been poor choices originally that made it feel so small!
DeleteAlways a kitty nearby,you know. :)
It looks great Betsy! I love the lights that you chose, especially the one above the table, although it would hard to choose between them and the ones over the island. xx
ReplyDeleteThanks, Amy. Picking out the lights sure was a fun task to do!
DeleteOh Boy!!! . . . . Let there be light and there was light!!
ReplyDeleteI looks absolutely amazing . . .
Love the counter tops and many congratulations about putting up those lights . . .
What a spanking new home you have . . .
. . . and the floor . . .tell the lads it looks great for marbles . . . and roller skating . . . lol
Yes . . .Keith beat me . . . I thought I'd better let him win for a change . . . lol . . . . :)
We were joking today that the living room (which wasn't touched during the reno) probably feels neglected. haha.
DeleteRoller skating....I can only imagine! haha....
lol . . . so its the living room next . . . . what have you started ? . . . :)
Deletehaha...oh the living room looks fine. Maybe a new couch or two, but nothing else. :) It's the bathrooms that need to be gutted! But not this year...we need to recover. ha.
DeleteMy bathroom needs a reno . . . . very badly . . . maybe I shall do mine next year . . . :)
DeleteMaybe we could do it together. haha. Ours are horrible....a great incentive to save up and do it asap. haha.
DeleteYes . . . . I always hated the way they tiled our bathroom . . . I could have done a much better job myself but Maria wanted it done quickly . . . The bathroom suite is very dated . . . :)
DeleteTell you what I'll help you with your's if you help me with mine . . . lol
Are you saying you were too slow for Maria? lol....
DeleteEveryone was too slow for Maria ~ bless her cotton socks . . . :)
DeleteWow, oh, wow! Beautiful! I especially love the light fixtures you have chosen.
ReplyDeleteWe're really liking the lights, too....a little difficult for two novices to get up, but we did it. The Mister's brother ended up coming to help with the two big ones. It's amazing what some lighting can do for a space!
DeleteIt is all so beautiful. I can tell you put a lot of planning in this project and it has such a great look.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Larry....yes, we brain stormed for a long time (half the fun!) so it's nice to see it come together.
DeleteIt looks fabulous my dear!! Simply fabulous!!
ReplyDeleteJust like yourself!:)
DeleteWow, looks all shiny new
ReplyDeleteNo dust there in view
Bet you cleaned it first
And now easy to quench your thirst
Yep, cleaned everything first
Deleteand threatened all if they made it worse.
haha.
Your table is beautiful. I keep bugging my boys to make these kinds of tables to sell. Love them! Love the lights too!
ReplyDeleteThat could be a great little business! Everyone needs a table to eat from...maybe in Colorado! :)
DeleteMy oldest son made me a coffee table that is something like this in his woodshop class last year in school and they all enjoy working with wood and building things, so maybe. :) Second son made a computer/scrapbooking desk last year too. Goodness, I was surprised!! and impressed I might add!
DeleteWhat a great skill to learn~ furniture is so expensive! Just think of all the things they could make for their own home some day!
DeleteMy Dad was great at furniture building. From bedroom sets to kitchen cabinets.
DeleteOh, that's nice...do you have any pieces he made?
DeleteOur contractor built his own home...a log home...every inch of it...including the kitchen cabinets. It's beautiful!
We do have several beds, one of them came with a set. Plus a few other single pieces.
DeleteWow! I'm sure that log home is gorgeous! Sounds like you hired the right man for the reno!
He's done other work for us, too and does really nice work. I'm friends with his wife, too. ...they go to our church.
DeleteI bet those beds are beautiful...such nice things to have that he made! We don't have any wood workers in our family! Now I'm wishing we did!
I built a big kitchen dresser out of rubbish wood, and now it's finished it still looks like rubbish wood!
DeleteIt does not...it's beautiful!
DeleteNov 5 is "Bonfire Night" in the Mother Country and all the kids are collecting rubbish wood to burn an effigy of Guy Fawkes on. . . . .sooooo?
DeleteYou wouldn't!
DeleteNo, not really.
DeleteI didn't think so.
DeleteI saw the dresser too Keith ~ I think it is fantastic . . . :)
DeleteIt all looks amazing Betsy! Home stretch for sure. You must feel like you are in a new house.
ReplyDeleteyes...we do..and have mentioned that. It feels completely new and different....at least this half. haha.....I'm really looking forward to having it done and getting back to the normal routine!
DeleteWe haven't had such a huge reno but the little ones we had were disruptive enough:) I am so happy for you, it truly is beautiful. You will have to keep pinching yourself to believe it's for real. I love everything and esp the lights above the table and your 'computer station' by the windows! And I bet cooking is a lot of fun now too.
DeleteI'm itching to use that island...roll out pie crusts or cookie dough! Yes, still pinching ourselves....the difference is incredible....such a fun thing!
DeleteThe dust part is never finished! But your house is beautiful, gorgeous, spectacular!
ReplyDeleteVery, very nice. And it came together just splendidly.
I hope perhaps My Contractor was a little bit helpful with his advice.
:0)
Yes, he was! We didn't change our minds midstream and make Kris pull out his hair. haha.
DeleteI do believe I can roll out many pie crusts on that island...cookie dough, too. Can't wait to use it!
It turned out so beautiful! I really like the light fixtures you chose. Everything came together well. You're almost done!
ReplyDeleteAlmost finished! Yay! I'm so excited to be done!
DeleteWow, Looks gorgeous. Those are great countertops. The whole space has come together so well. Good job all! Now, back to
ReplyDeleteyour dusting. ; ) Taria
Oh the dusting! haha....surely it will end soon!
DeleteThe lights from the cabinets just make everything inside them, POP. I bet is also add a lot more light in the dining room and kitchen, too.
ReplyDeleteI tell ya, lights are like "jewelry" to a room. Now you have the bling!
That is such a good way to describe it! Jewelry for your room! Love that!
DeleteWow...just WOW! Everything looks great. I love the long stemmed lights and that boat. Everything looks so sleek and clean.
ReplyDeleteOne good thing about a Reno is that it forces you to de clutter and clean out. I got the boat at an auction....so fun!
DeleteHi Betsy....
ReplyDeleteYou must be tickled pink....it looks incredible....only one more job to finish it off!
Crap day here today....gloomy....cold....brrrr!
Enjoy your evening....
Cheers!
Linda :o)
It's looking good, isn't it? Another week and it should be complete. Can't wait!
DeleteI'm freezing tonight! Had to get another sweater and my slippers!
Perhaps the floor is colder?
DeleteLook absolutely beautiful Betsy!
ReplyDeleteReally amazing!
Thank you., so happy it's almost done!
DeleteThe finished result is worth all the hassle, isn't it?
ReplyDeleteYes, it real is...and you almost forget the most painful moments! ha. Now I wish my bathrooms were done like yours!
DeleteI just love it! Modern and yet very warm and so welcoming. I love all of the display cabinets for your beautiful things. And I'm glad that the boys handled the disruption so well. Thanks for all of the daily updates. It was fun to watch the progression.
ReplyDeleteLaurie
The boys have been great....I'm really quite surprised! What troopers they are! And they are attentive...noticing every day what is different. I'm so thankful it went smoothly for them!
DeleteLooking really gorgeous, Betsy. I especially like all the lighting.
ReplyDeleteThe lighting has really made a difference. You would have laughed watching us put them up, though!ha.
DeleteOh I'm loving every new item. I especially love the reflection of all the wonderful lights on the counters and table. I LOVE light, and you have just made me love your new place more with all the light. I have lamps and night lights all over my house.
ReplyDeleteI like what Chris said...lighting is the jewelry to a room! :)
DeleteHi Betsy - how wonderful you've managed to cope this far ... I think I'd have left everything til it was all done ... but even with that layer of dust - at least most of your life is back .. the kitchen, dining room and sitting room ... looks so very smart and will be amazing by the end of this coming week .. so pleased for you .. congratulations - cheers Hilary
ReplyDeleteI am so happy, too....just a little ways to go!
DeleteSee, now I want a beautiful kitchen too. Even if I can't cook to save my life...
ReplyDeleteYou can't cook? Now I find that hard to believe! No blueberry pie? Blue cheese dressing? Blue corn chips and salsa? :)
DeleteYour new kitchen looks gorgeous and I love the look of your home.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Denise....
Deleteho ho ho well done ho ho ho
ReplyDeleteWell, thanks, Santa. Now, how about a bathroom reno under the tree this year?
DeleteAnd let there be light! I did a double-take when I saw the third picture, thinking it was windows on the side of the room... it was the cabinets! Everything looks absolutely beautiful - you must be so pleased. Do you walk around pinching yourself? After 25 years... what a transformation. You all deserve it.
ReplyDeleteWe do keep walking in and saying,"Wow, what a beautiful room!" ha. Hasn't quite set in yet. We need to settle in and live in it now to truly appreciate it...so thankful!
DeleteI love the ship, too. What a handsome statement piece.
DeleteI LOVE your choice of light fixtures- those are so beautiful!! And your counters are perfect!-I was so used to seeing the cardboard there that I didn't really think they'd make such a difference, but holy moly they sure do! What an incredible transformation! It will be such a joy to get to work in such a lovely space!
ReplyDeleteI actually enjoyed cleaning up the kitchen last night....quartz is much easier to wipe clean than cardboard! haha....
DeleteThank you so much Christine....quite the improvement, don't you think?
ReplyDeleteI love every inch of it! There isn't one thing that I don't love. My favorite part has to be the little nook you have by the kitchen windows. Very clever. You should start a side buisness of being an interior decorator. :)
ReplyDeleteI do love my little nook, too...my favorite spot in the whole house!
DeleteGoodness me! It all looks terribly smart!! I hope you are going to find it all works well for you. And I just love the model yacht.
ReplyDeleteI'm a little giddy when I walk in and see it all. ha.
Deletevery nice...the counter tops are def nice...but i love the hanging lights throughout....
ReplyDeleteThey were a bear to put up...haha....whew!
DeleteLooks fabulous. I really love all those lights.
ReplyDeleteWe definitely have enough illumination. ha.
DeleteHonestly, there is not one thing that I can say that I like the best. It is all so unique and so beautiful. With the lighting, ( I love the phrase that lighting is the jewelry to a room) I bet that your collection pieces in the lighted cabinetry along the one wall brings so much warmth into the room. I am all about ambience and I am betting that you nailed it with that wall. It is all so lovely, Betsy. Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteI do love how that wall turned out! It was an after-thought, actually....we stumbled upon that and thought how great it would look...and it just fit in the space, too....got lucky there!
DeleteJust stunning! I love the whole look!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Michelle.....
