This And That

  1. Getting ready to list a classic old book in my etsy shop and found a few pressed leaves among the pages.  Reminded me of my grandma...and myself!
  2. One of those sweet American Tree Sparrows.
  3. My attempt to keep up with Don.  The secret to having a nice long season of produce in the north is to buy the biggest plants available.  Then Ohio can almost be like Georgia when it comes to summer gardens. ha.
  4. Leftover pot roast sandwiches with mango salsa and tortilla chips.
  5. The last shot of the blossoms before they blew away in the breeze.
  6. Cat hugs.

  1. I love the cat hug, that is the sweetest thing that I have seen for ages. Really so lovely. I think that you should leave the leaf in the book as it will be a lovely surprise for whoever buys it! I think that would be a great thing to find in the pages. Hope that you enjoy your plants and that you get lots of goodies to eat - they look like peppers or chillies and tomatoes? xx

    1. There is always a cat hug happening here. Sometimes 3-4 in a group hug. haha. Great idea about the leaf! I think I'll do that.
Those are tomatoes and bell peppers. I need to get them planted! Rainy today!

Blessed I am that thou corrected my word.
      And on this beauteous morn
as a new day is born
I thank thee for your kindness here,
      thither and yon, and everywhere.

  3. King Authur was an ancient Brit
with lots of fire and full of grit.
    Guinevere was his lovely wife,
His Queen and lady of his life.
    Merlin was a superb magician,
His rank a very high position.
The knights were gallant, srong and bold
And stories of their feats are told.
One was said to stray and prance a lot
He was naughty and called Sir Lancelot.
Also there was the nice Sir Galahad
At his sight ladies swooned and felt sad.
They said he was a real great charmer
When he took off all his gleaming armour.
Of course this story is just a fable
Did they really dine at that Round Table?

I love the piccie of your sparrow
Taken as quick as a speeding arrow.

And glad you got some garden plants
    Ready for busy garden transplants.

That leftover pot roast looks so good
I'm coming to eat it - understood?

Love the blossom on the tree
Taken before each one did flee.

Those cats are are quite amazing
Posing that way - quite curtain raising!
We all would love to have a cuddle,
If our lives we could but juggle.

LOL - Loved those photos Betsy - you see, you inspire me!! LOL

For instance I bet cats would love to be able to charm birds out of the trees! LOL

    9. Oh, they try! You should see them! The sit under the tree and make these little chirping sounds!! It's hilarious!

  5. I collected old books for a while. Loved the illustrations in some of them. And occasionally I would find a pressed leaf, or newspaper clipping, or once a recipe card. So lovely to find these keepsakes.

    1. I agree...so fun to find a little treasure!

I had a photograph of the mister returned to me not long ago that I had left in a library book at the university where we attended. The person who checked it out found it, recognized him and saw that I was the last one to check it out thirty years before! And since we still live in that town, he dropped it by. Pretty cool, huh?

      Delete
    2. That is very cool indeed! What a nice thing to do.

  6. Fabulous this and that Betsy....
Do you leave the tomatoes in those pots, or transplant them?
Is that Slate giving the love? He certainly lucked out knocking on your door!
I see you are having chicken salad for dinner....YAY for those rotisserie chickens!
Say "hi" to the wee Birdie for me ♥️
    Enjoy your evening..

That is Smoke! He looks very much like Slate...same color and eyes, but smaller.
I love those rotisserie chickens! I bought two and pulled all the meat off the bones today. One went in the freezer and we'll eat on the second one for a few dinners. The possibilities are endless! Yum!

  8. HA!! I see you made it to the garden center this morning!! And I'm sure you'll have NO problem "keeping up with me." My tomatoes have started blooming, but from the looks of those plants, you're ALREADY caught up with me! And are those others, peppers?

    ReplyDelete

    1. Yep, peppers! :)
Actually, I bought these Tuesday. My trip to the garden center was moved to tomorrow due to pouring rain. I want to browse and take my time without looking like a drowned rat as I peruse the veggies! haha.
Maybe we should have a contest for the first ripe tomato! Your temps are warmer, though, so I'm sure you will win.
      It's only 60 degrees today!

    2. Lynne, I have my eye on a new feral cat! I've seen him a couple of times in the back yard. Tonight it was pouring rain and he sought shelter on our porch. The cats out there didn't seem to mind but he ran when I tried to take him food. He needs my TLC! I hope he realized I have food and stays. He looks hungry. Finger's crossed!

    3. If he has an ounce of sense... he'll stay!

    4. Betsy, You are a woman after my own heart. I wish I could adopt, but I have a chronic illness that prevents me from having any pets at this stage of my life. I'll have to be content with vicariously hugging and petting yours. Best of luck with the new prospect! Lynne

      Delete
    5. Aw, you just live vicariously. I have more than enough to share! haha. This one doesn't look anything like our bunch. He's mostly white on his face with very pale orange on his body. He has a ghostly look about him. Hard to describe. Maybe it's just because he's scared and hungry. I felt bad last night when he ran back out in the rain. He was just seeking shelter and I scared him off. He seemed very comfortable coming up on the porch and hopping up on a bench to sit, like he'd been there before. I'm sure he'll be back. I'll have to think of a different strategy. Slate would come running if I called for him, but this one wasn't impressed with my, "kitty-kitty-kitty!" haha.

  14. I always enjoy pictures of your cats, but I think this is the CUTEST ONE EVER!

I bought a few annual flower packs last weekend, but held off on the vegetables. Glad I did; the temperature the next few nights is supposed to dip down into the 40s

    1. the mister told me I might want to wait before planting these and keep them up on the porch. It really isn't that warm, you're right. The old rule of thumb here was not before Memorial Day. Then it changed to Mother's Day. But this spring has been slow in coming along, too.

And I almost didn't include that photo today! ha. I'm always afraid I overdo the kitties.

Our blossoms are going to be just in time for the Apple Blossom Festival. Hopefully the weather clears up.

    1. We had a tornado touch down in cedarville around 6:30 this evening. Someone lost their farm...still can't figure out who. Scary! We were one minute away from hunkering down in the bathroom when the mister called and said it was headed the other direction. Good thing...the boys don't like hunkering down in the bathroom! ha. I don't either, for that matter. Thanks for liking my cat photos. One time I posted some and someone said they would rather see pictures of my boys. Well, my boys hate that camera! haha. Cats pose so nicely! lol....

The Apple Blossom Festival sounds wonderful! Glad the blooms are going to come out just in time!

    2. Hope you are all safe - big storm here but certainly not a tornado!

      Delete
    3. We're good. The couple that lost their farm was in the basement and survived but their house, barn and silos are totally flat. :(
We don't know them personally. So sad, but at least they are alive. Still having torrential rains today. Not typical of day-after-a-tornado
weather, when it is usually gorgeous and sunny.

      Delete
    4. So awful to lose everything... can't imagine it. I hope the town rallies and helps out - small towns are usually great about those sorts of things. Sounds like they need many acts of random kindness! Been raining and stormy here for a few days, and a tornado did touch down in Ontario yesterday but nowhere near me. Maybe Marmalade won't feel so out of place if the potential new kitty has some of his colourings! :-)

    5. But of course Marmalade may love being the unique one!
