April Showers

It hasn't stopped raining since April arrived!
This morning we had a rain pond in our side yard that stretched
across the neighbor's back yard.  Shadow looked intent
on crossing the water and even took a few steps into it
before turning back.  I wondered what he was so interested
in and then I heard quacking.  Quacking?  Really?

Yes, really!  I've lived here 26 years.
This is a first. ha.

  4. Reminds me a bit of "Teal Lake" which we drained rather nicely a couple years back.
We had ducks and geese moving in too.
Too bad it's too cold to swim.

  5. We have a big pond from the torrential rains, too. We do get some geese in our back yard occasionally. Never had ducks though : )

    1. Geese would be fun. They fly over the house but never land. The ducks were fun though. Boy, were they loud!

  7. Seems you're having some of the very wet weather we had a while ago.
Must have been very surprising to discover a pond out of no-where!
Love the photos, Betsy, and am I guessing right that you used the new camera and set it to blur the foreground to concentrate on the subject of the ducks etc. Any more rain and you might have to start building an Ark.

    1. Just a little colder and it could be snow! I did use my new camera! :)

An ark? haha...But I'd want to take all 15 cats on board and not just 2 by 2! haha.

  8. That's OK - there's a few spaces available between the skunk and the polecat where you could put them! No-one wants to be there! LOL

    1. he has his wife with him...but she's hard to see through the trees. They never would swim out when I could get a clear photo. They stayed about 30 minutes and off they went.

  13. It's funny how they are migrating wherever there is water. We have a large pond at the university a few blocks away. So we get them all over here in the city near us....sort of sad.

  15. i think your zoo might have placed an ad inviting friends....
are you sure you are not called to build an ark
as you just about have 2 of every animal (or more)
    at this point....

    1. I'm not feeling the calling, no. But with all that rain, it should have occurred to me!

  17. March winds and April showers bring forth May flowers, or in your case ducks! We had swans and ducks and all sorts on the impromptu lakes earlier in the year when we had flooding, but not actually in our garden!! xx

  20. Funny how dogs love water and cats don't - even if there are ducks! I like the way your yards don't have fences, so unlike communities here where everything is carefully demarcated.

    1. well, our own yard does have a fence. It was a necessity when the boys were little and loved to wander off. But it's a low, picket fence and doesn't obstruct the view too much.
