The Roomba Review

When I showed you my iRobot Roomba I got for Christmas,
several of you asked me to report back how I liked it
after I had used it for a while.
I have to say, I like it better than I expected.
It's a smart little robot!  It has a dirt censor. It will slow down
when it comes near furniture so it doesn't slam into things.
It can be programmed to come on and clean at certain times
of the day or week.  And after it runs about 90 minutes, it brings
itself back to it's charger and tells you that the chore is done!

Sometimes I have to redirect it into a room or block it in so it
will finish before venturing off to other parts of the house,
but overall I think it's pretty wonderful!
It will even stop and tell you if something is wrong,
like it's brushes need cleaning, the dirt trap needs to be
emptied, or if it's stuck somewhere.
It won't fall down stairs but stops if it gets one wheel over
and it tells you it needs to be moved to a level area.
And best of all, it can go under the china cabinet, under beds,
couches, and lots of other pieces that normally only get
the spring cleaning treatment.

Here's the dirt trap after a few runs through the house.
It picks up crumbs, pet hair, scraps of paper and dust.
I even see a sucker stick in there!

The best part about 'Bot' is that I can do other things
while vacuuming.

 Amazing things, like...I can.....

  1. Unload the dishwasher and vacuum at the same time!
  2. Fold laundry and vacuum at the same time!
  3. Take a shower and vacuum at the same time!
  4. Send an email and vacuum at the same time!
  5. Paint my nails and vacuum at the same time!
  6. Take a nap and vacuum at the same time!
  7. Walk on the treadmill and vacuum at the same time!
  8. Dust the furniture and vacuum at the same time!
  9. Cook dinner and vacuum at the same time!
  10. Brush my teeth and vacuum at the same time!
haha....you get the picture. So fun!
If you're in the market for one, and are wondering if
a Bot would be right for you, I personally would recommend one!
They are also highly entertaining for any pets you may have. :)

  1. ha ha...I bet the cat is fascinated with it and wonder why it doesn't have a tail and ears. I love your report as I have often wondered about these machines. I sure could use one to pick up all of Ben's daily fur loss. I got a steam cleaner for Christmas but haven't even tried it out yet. Happy almost Spring

  2. I have wondered how these work. Thanks for the review. I have 6 kitties, so they would be quite amused, I'm sure!
Hope you have a nice evening.

  3. lol I love the picture. lol
I also love this new machine that washes and polishes the floors. Man thats two jobs in one.
Right now I mop and then uses my Moms old polisher to polish and I put some of the furniture polish for it to rub into the floors
The floors absorb it. They need to be nourished.

    1. Oooh....you put some elbow grease into it! We're looking to get hardwood floors this year. I'll have to remember that...nourish. Wouldn't want them to be thirsty! :)

  4. Leave it to you pretty girl to have my sides splitting while reading a sweeper review! Goodness me, you are a bundle of humour, aren't you? I hope the Roomba company takes a look. You'd made some bloody good commercials for them, too. I was wondering how I might look doing dishes and vacuuming at the same time. I'd surely break something! Seems more complicated than rubbing your head and patting your tummy at the same time! (smiling) And I am happy that you have something so useful as you certainly deserve a helping hand.

    2. But the most important question is, does Socks try to engage in a boxing match?

    3. haha...not yet...but I'm his favorite boxing partner. :)

    6. Ah, facial hair! And he has whiskers! So you have a weakness for that, do you? I do have a beard, I might remind you! (smiling)

    7. ha..yeah, I know. Two of my men have facial hair. The other three look slightly scruffy all the time. They only get a shave once a week. And all the cats do...even the girls! hahahaha......

    2. You will have to try it out so that you can report back again!! Is it quiet enough that you can sneak it into the boys rooms when they are asleep to get ahead on the chores, that is the big question!! xx

    3. haha..oh, I'd never risk waking them up! yikes. We clean in there while they are gone! lol....

  7. Surprised you have time to take a nap with all the other activities going on lol
BOT sounds a pretty wonderful device.

Of course I would want one to:
    1. Do the cleaning
    2. Do the dusting
    3. Do the ironing
    4. Do the washing up
    5, Do the drying up
    6. Scrub the floors
    7. Cook the meals
    8. Sing to me
    9. Wait on me hand foot and finger!!

Have you got one of those? lol

Oh I see Christine has already asked

    4. Cloning yourself!!
      Help!!
Imagine it - all those Betsys and all the blogs they will write - we'll be up all night visiting and commenting and our brains will wear out thinking of all those poems and alliteration.

  8. Sounds so funny! But even though I have not got a help like this, I will allow myself some lazy days now. Because I had a very busy week to get the data for a spring magazine I was commissioned to do to the printer's in time. I must admit, that I had nearly no time at all to do something especially kind. So I just contributed to the February project many church communities over here join, which is called 'Vesperkirche'. It means that for this whole month there is a room, a table and a meal provided for everybody, who needs a good lunch or talk or both. The cooking, serving of the meals, the dishes and cleaning is done by volunteers and there were about 350 this year, many of them were young people. An average of 400 meals were cooked a day and 30 to 40 cakes were donated also every day, I was so glad about that...
    Kind regards
    Christel

  9. I was skeptical that it would really do a good enough job to satisfy you but apparently it does. You got me curious enough to look it up online and see that the company also makes an iRobot to clean gutters, ha!

    1. It really does! I wouldn't get rid of my big vacuum, of course and it isn't powerful enough to get down to the roots of plush carpet, but for it's size, it's great. I only get out the big vacuum ever couple of weeks instead of daily now, which is a big help!

    2. If you're really serious, we got ours at Bed, Bath and Beyond and used one of their 20% off coupons, which really saved a nice chunk of money!

  11. I think my house needs a roomba. Of course, my small children might be kind of rough on one. Maybe I'll wait until things settle down. Guess I could always buy my cat a shark suit first.

  14. I'm so glad to read this. I've wondered how people like them. Sounds good to me!

    ReplyDelete
  15. haha that would be fun
For the cats to watch it run
    Orlin probably run away
Or try to kill it at our bay
But does it pick up bigger things that maybe around
Like if cat toys are found
Or grab on a curtain or something like that
    Or suck up a doormat

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. It doesn't suck up anything like that...
just scooted a sock out of the way at my mat.
Did choke once on a throw rug
but let it go and went on with a chug.
      Hasn't eaten any cat toys
so it really does bring me joy.
      haha.

    2. May have to get one one day
If I ever have a bigger bay
