All Things Shimmery

This vintage Japanese porcelain footed planter was left for
the auction trash a few weeks ago.  I thought it should come
home with me!  I loved the shimmery grey and gold and
it looks great in my kitchen, holding a few ornaments!

  11. Betsy:

You must have a really big house! As much stuff as you bring home from the auction amazes me. You always find such neat things to do with it. I have a very small house with three big boys, the husband, me and four dogs. I wish I had your creativity. Somehow, that didn't develop well and I have to hire someone to do it for me. Are you for hire? ;-)

    1. haha...no, it's not that big. :) And I don't keep everything I bring home. A lot of it goes in my etsy shop for sale! And as for hire, actually yes! I have had a few people hire me to decorate their homes. It's great fun!

  12. Your auction house has really good "trash"! Can I have that bauble that looks like a pea pod when you don't want it any more?? OK maybe I can buy it from your shop?

    1. Isn't that the cutest thing? When I was pregnant with my triplets we used to call them 'three peas in a pod' and I've picked up a few pea pod things since then as a fun reminder. :)

    2. It's charming. I'm guessing that's not going in the shop!

  13. First how could that end up in the auction, and then not be bought and go to the trash! It is beautiful. I think that they need you to style up some of the auction lots Betsy, they would make far more sales - although that wouldn't do you lot of good would it!! It would look great on your hallway table with your other things for sure. xx

    1. The auctions have 'box lots' which are boxes full of various items. The box is sold as is and for one price, usually just a dollar or two. Usually people don't want the entire contents and pull out what they want and leave the rest, even though they have paid for the entire thing. As a result, there are odds and ends scattered around that are left, and they are scooped up and thrown in the trash, literally, before we leave. Some of the most fragile things I've brought home have been laying out the grass at the end of the day and I'm not only amazed someone didn't want them, but that they survived the day without being broken!

    2. That is so sad that people just leave things behind! I would take the boxful and even if I didn't want things I would donate them or try and rehome them somewhere, not just dump them. I guess that it works in your favour, but it seems so sad! Oh well, you can make the best of these things. I see above that someone suggested/hinted at you (you perhaps, forgotten!) selling christmas ornaments in containers like these in your shop. I thought of that, but thought you might think me a bit cheeky saying it. I am sure that they would be great sellers, they would make a great ready made decoration or people could use them as two gifts. I wonder when I will see one appear on pinterest that is in your shop!! xx

    3. Oh, I'm open to all ideas! haha. I think this is a great one! I have a weakness for pretty containers anyway and this would be a great way to sell some (and a great reason to continue to bring them home!) lol....I'll have to remember to put them in the shop early next year. I think some people like to buy ready to display decor, too. How fun!

    4. And by next christmas I should have a new computer and have worked out how to buy stuff online and I can come shopping for pretty containers filled with decorations at your shop!! xx

  17. Such a georgious combination of soft pastels and shimmering objects! It looks great. And this planter is such an elegant beauty! Cannot believe, that anybody should have rated this as 'trash'! But of course lucky you!
