A Story In Red

A bird so sweet.
My warm feet.
Sugar-garlanded trees.
Cocoa, so chocolaty.

  1. You look so cozy in your slippers. And the cookies and hot chocolate make it even cozier. But the bird doesn't look so cozy out in the rain. It's raining here today too...no more snow on the ground.

    1. yay for you being first!!

All of that beautiful snow is gone here, too! I was sure it would stay through Christmas. It's been raining so long and is warm enough that we just have a yard of mud and little ponds. Ugh.

  2. Well that surely puts us in the Christmas Spirit, and I would say those are bits of joy!! Made Don a big cup of hot chocolate with whipped cream and choc. sprinkles. I don't do sugar cookies anymore...guess I don't because I don't have any little hand to help me any more...but I did make a big batch of the sweet and salty as they have become the family's favorite. I wish I had one of your lovely cookie trees now...so elegant with the touch of pearls.

    1. Our Christmas gathering is small this year and I didn't give out cookies as part of my gifts, so I had to scale back a little so we wouldn't be left with dozens of cookies and forced to do horrid things like eat many for breakfast every day for a month afterward. lol.... :) I picked 4 of our favorites and am just making 1/3 of each recipe. That way we have the variety but not too many.
And to make the cut-outs even more simple...only one shape and no coloring of frosting. Hopefully I'm getting wiser as I get older. lol....

I think I remember your sweet and salty cookies! The Mr. would love those!

    2. Remember me telling you we were going to do "Potluck" this year....NOT! We had a couple family members that balked at not having traditional, so guess what...we re-grouped and I will be making cornbread dressing, the cranberry sauce, pumpkin pie and choc. torte. So much for trying to change Christmas..HaHa.

    3. haha..oh dear! Well, I hope those that balked are contributing food in a big way! lol....

    4. Would you believe the mashed potatoes and sweet potatoes. HaHa...But I must add...they do make great potatoes!!

  3. I like your story in red. I had some hot chocolate the other day and boy, did it hit the spot. A real winter-time drink. Sadly most of our snow is gone too, and what is left is dismally grey. Pouring rain yesterday and today and a freezing rain storm forecast for tonight. Good thing I bought groceries this morning - would not want to be out there now. Where, oh where, is our white Christmas? May I have a cookie please? :-) It will help make up for the weather!

  6. Yes, me too. We had a ton of it last Saturday and now just a whisper left. Thank you for the cookie - it will be my snow for the night.

  7. Oh, I could do with a cookie and cocoa before bedtime - can you pop one round to me! Hope you are having fun with your baking - and what pray is wrong with cookies for breakfast - if you can have cake for breakfast why not cookies!! xx

    1. Oh, there is absolutely nothing wrong with cookies for breakfast...and I would thoroughly enjoy it. But after 30 days of that, I wouldn't be able to fit through the door! haha.

    1. We are not smothered in ice! It's 50 F degrees! It rained for 2 days and washed all the snow away. I have the kitchen window open and it feels like spring. Crazy! Where is my white christmas????

  12. I had a house full of guests this weekend with lots of meals and champaign. And they all left now some minutes ago and Igot the idea from your blog to have a relaxing hot chocolate with Amaretto (sweet Italian stuff out of almonds) right now.
I always love the beautiful birds of Ohio!
