Auction Fun

I worked an auction last week located in a cute little
old house.  The lady recently moved to a nursing home
and all the kids (in their 60's) were there.
They were a happy bunch (helps that it wasn't an
estate sale, of course) and lots of smiles
and laughter filled the day.

I bid on this double breasted coat. It has camel colored
wool and a rabbit fur collar.  It's in wonderful condition
and the lining is like new!  And best of all, it fit me
perfectly!  Nobody else wanted it, so for $2 it came
home with me.  I won't be wearing it until it goes
to the dry cleaners, though.  It smells like Aqua Net
and Midnight in Paris. lol.....  If it belongs to me,
it needs to smell like Tresemme and Eternity! ha.

    2. I've been pretty successful so far.
Of course, I'm going a little batty along with him, but that's all part of the fun, yes?

    3. haha...well, that's even better. I mean, it wouldn't be fair for one to go crazy and the other stay sane!

  5. What a deal! After it's cleaned, you need to post a picture of you wearing it. :)

  6. You are just fixed up when cold weather comes with this pretty new coat and black boots.
Good old Aqua Net, kind of makes me gasp when I remember how the beauty shop my mom went to used to smell, especially back before cigarette smoking was taboo- like Aqua Net, wet hair under those hard top dryers and smoke.

I am sure the dry cleaner will fix your coat right up,

    1. Oh, isn't that true? I'm surprised they didn't blow up with the smoking and aerosol sprays. haha.

I'm sure the dry cleaning bill will be more than I paid for the coat. lol....

  7. Had to laugh. Gloria's right. If Nugget sees that coat he'll fall over. :) I did this whole cartoon thing in my head of him seeing it the first time.

The coat is lovely though and $2 isn't bad at all! I don't do fur, rabbit or anything hairy or floaty. Makes my nose itch terribly. I can't even go by the mohair sweaters in the dept. stores. The itching will now begin and the rash shows up.

Do me a favor...Tell Mrs. Robin that down here when it rains a lot that the worms crawl around on the ground, sidewalks and porches. She won't even had to dig for them. Maybe that will get her to packing her bags. Freaks me out so it would be nice to have someone here to
clean/sweep them up besides me. ;)

    1. Oh, Mrs Robin would be in worm heaven! haha.

Poor Nugget...can you see his eyes if I had a rabbit's foot good luck charm? Those were so popular when I was in grade school. Now they are probably banned or something. I always thought they were creepy.

One thing I won't do are those fox stoles with the heads still on. They show up at the auctions once in a while and we cringe and laugh at them. Ew!

I can't do mohair...those little things get stuck on my eyelashes! Drives me crazy!

  8. its amazing how we all love things our mothers have hidden away, it looks like a lovely warm coat and I understand completely your not liking the smell, I will be completely honest here and admit I can't stand second hand shops or thrift shops, not because I am a snob, I like a deal as well as anyone but I have a stupid thing about smells, and those shops make me think of stinky shoes,w hich in turn make me think of smelly feet, which then makes me think of germs and thats my problem, I am a germ freak, I wish I didn't have this quirk but I do, I also hope we see you in this coat,

    1. I did the same thing the first time I stepped into a thrift shop. I was there about 1 minutes and left, feeling dirty and itchy all over! I got over it though and thoroughly clean everything I buy.

  9. lol rabbit you say?
    Nugget may run away
And take it for a spell
May get used to the old person smell lol

      Thanks for the tip
      from your sarcastic lip.
      ha.
Yeah, Nugget might faint at the sight
of me in that coat clean and bright.

  11. Your streak continues! Boots AND a coat. You are set for the chill to come. I remember a scent called Evening in Paris... from wayyyyy back. Loved the cobalt blue bottle, but was not mad about the scent. I will have to sniff Eternity when I am shopping as I am not familiar with it.

    1. yeah...very popular in the 1950's...not the best scent, which is probably why it's popularity died out! ha.

Eternity...Calvin Klein. I've worn it for years!

  12. Hey, could be worse - it could smell of mothballs!! Hope you have fun wearing it once it has paid its visit to the dry cleaners!! xx

  13. They don't make them like that anymore, certainly not for $2 anyway, what a vintage bargain.

    1. No, they really don't! I'm sure cleaning it won't be for $2 though! ha.

  15. So, now I caught up with all of your recent posts! Had a lot of work do do recently. A winter makeover for our online shop and I am already working at the spring collection ... I so loved all the harvest gold! 'searching for a heart of gold...'. This tune is always on my mind when harvest comes! And the sunset view from your kitchen window is so beautiful! I also like your newest header. You must have lots of energy!
I'll have to go for a cappucino now! Or maybe an expresso, because I am as tired as my cats, who all switched to winter mode, e.g. lying on beds all day long.

Some people say chanel #5 is passe but you can't improve on a masterpiece.
That perfume to me is just like gold.
But perfume like everything else has to go with your body chemistry.
W can buy lovely fur coats at the flea market stores for 5 bucks.
I thought to buy one but then changed my mind.

  21. Hi, Vince. Just for the record, 'doll' has been my nickname for Betsy during all five years of our close friendship. I'd appreciate it if you wouldn't call her that. Thanks!

    1. Cheers to The Silver Fox! I must agree that you picked out the perfect name for Betsy. It fits her bloody well, I do believe. Everyone should call her doll, don't you think? Let's not be stingy about it. She deserves it. She is a doll! A beautiful doll, inside and out!
