Famous Folks' Felines

"Books, Cats, Life is good!"

~Edward Gorey
American Writer and Illustrator
1925-2000

And what a fitting quote from Mr. Gorey on this
National Cat Day.

And all I have to say to Mr. Gorey is,
"Only three?"  haha.

  2. Great photo! And I agree with Silver, his art is very creative. Love the collage of all your sweet kitties.
Happy National Cat Day to them all!

  3. Happy Cat Day to the lovely Queen of Cats. What spoilt felines you have, I am sure. I did not realize just how many you have! And not a single dog to even things out?

    1. Well, I have three less than that collage shows. They disappeared mysteriously. And I only gained one this whole year, so I think I've greatly slowed down their growing population! :) No, no dogs for me....I'll leave that to someone else. ha. But I have Nugget...does he count? :)

    2. But of course Nuggett counts! Tell him how lucky he is to be American. Over here, he would be made into a scrumptious rabbit stew!

    3. I told him! He gave a little shiver. lol....

  4. This is just an awesome photo. I was looking for more cats hiding somewhere. I will have to look him up, as I didn't know of him.

Your Kitty Zoo is just too cute.

    2. Are you familiar with the PBS series "Mystery"? The illustrations with the opening theme song are his creation.

  8. Loved Gorey's twisted, sharp humour. Happy National Cat Day to you and your furry friends. They don't know what lucky kitties they are to have you as their underdog... or would that be undercat? Hee hee!

  9. I knew you had a bunch of cats but I didn't know it was this many! Do they all live in the house with you? I've never had a cat but I find them really interesting to watch...this is where my husband would say something about them being good with ketchup...but I don't think of them that way. :P

  10. No cat's here but we always had cats when I was growing up. My favourite was Winnie, know as Winnie the pooh for short! No pets now, well apart from the sheep, he is called Johan Sebastian baaaach - he's a footstool!! Happy national cat day to all of your lovely kitties. Great collage. xxx

  11. I had no idea it was National Cat Day. :(
And so I missed it, but it looks like every day is cat day at your house. There are two without names. Are they part of the vanishing act?
Edward Gorey is new to me, although his illustrations are somewhat familiar. I'm pretty sure Jim would know his work.

  17. Hi Betsy, back from Italy! You didn´t make the plane unfortunately! It was glorious weather and we lived in a house with a view over Lago Maggiore. I will show some pictures, as soon as I have managed to do the laundry and some other urgent things. Lots of cats there to feed, too. But your kitty zoo is not much smaller, I guess. I love them all, they are so beautiful creatures. Thank you for your heart of gold!

  18. LOL Are all 17 yours, because you are about to give a friend of mine a run for the money. She has 22. I tell her that she doesn't have to wait to be called a crazy cat lady because she has already arrived.

My oldest and youngest are cat people. The oldest only has one, but the youngest has three.

    1. Yep...they are all mine. But we're down to 14 now. It all started 3 years ago with two stray pregnant moms I started caring for...three litters later and a few random strays and this is what I have. :) All spayed and neutered now except Cocoa...and they all get along fairly well! :)

  20. Around here every day is National Cat Day! I'm also the crazy cat lady in my neighborhood. Seems like all my money (part-time job) goes toward food, spaying/neutering, shots, etc. Thankfully, I have an understanding husband who acts like he doesn't like them but babytalks them when he thinks no one is around, ha. Was Mustache one of the ones who went missing? I seem to remember you mentioning in the last year or two that one of the black ones with white feet with an 'M' name hadn't shown up for awhile. I always loved his face.

    1. Hi, Vicky! :) So nice to meet another cat lady! haha. ;)
My husband is very understanding, too, and actually enjoys the cats. Our Tiger and Whiskers prefer him and seek him out to sit on his lap and sleep on his side of the bed! haha.
Yes, Mustache is one of the three that are gone. He, along with Oreo and Tipper, who was the mom of the first litter. Sad! :(

    2. Sorry to hear that. I always wonder what happened to the ones that disappear as you probably do. All we can do is tend to the ones who do come our way. Keep up the good work!

      Delete
    3. Yeah....we can only help them if they come to us. Still makes me worried about the ones that suddenly disappear. We do have a red fox that roams around....and some neighbors that hate cats and kill them. :( I've talked to them, though, and made it known that a cat they see may belong to me. Did you ever read my post about Freckles? She never came back, but smelled like cigarette smoke the last two times she was here....so someone must care for her in some way. She knows where I am if she needs me. :) I did expect her to bring her litter to our home, but it never happened!
