She has a Summer Fun To Do List and she wanted to take some
bread to the pond and feed us. So she picked a nice day and
set out with her camera and a loaf of bread.
The pond in Xenia, Ohio is pretty, surrounded by a park with
a nice band stand on the water, fountains, and lots of benches.
She even saw that nice young man....Jill's oldest...and had a nice chat.
Most of us ducks were napping when she arrived.
She made herself comfortable on a park bench and took photos
of a few of us and the views around her.
But everything changed when she started rustling that
bread bag! Dozens of us ran to surrounded her and quacked with
delight that she had brought us a treat!
We're friendly enough,
but we can be demanding and a few of us nibbled on her
knees when she wasn't serving crumbs fast enough!
We would eat out of her hand, too!
We can be a little flirty, too! And we love to show off for the camera!
When she ran out of bread and had to go, we waddled off for
a swim....happy to have had some attention and lunch!
We all had a little smirk on our face as we said goodbye!
And here's why! That evening she told The Mister about
stopping to feed the ducks and he told her that there were
signs posted all around that prohibited feeding the ducks!
She hadn't seen a single one!

It's really pretty...I pass it on the way to the auctions. Maybe that would be a good place for my picnic I still need to take! (minus any duck feeding. ha.)
Deletethey might remember the generous Betsy who treats despite the signs and expect you to dish it out!
DeleteI say, do the picnic, it sounds wonderful and the water would be soothing!
I need to do the picnic! I should have done it earlier when the weather was so cool!...same with s'mores! ha.
Deleteuh oh...hope the local police dont monitor your blog...hahaha...yeah we have those signs too...so i might be in there with you...smiles.
ReplyDeletewell, I know you already have a mug shot. And I've been fingerprinted! lol.....
DeleteDucks can get a bit crazy when they get fed! lol Glad you survived! You got some great shots!
ReplyDeleteIt got a little crazy there for a few minutes! lol....At least they were nice. ha.
DeleteOh you made my day... I can't stop laughing... Your fruit and veggies have faces, and now not only do your cats talk the ducks do too.! Are you sure you are real, or is Betsy a cantoon character too. I truly can't imagine how I got along before I met you, and the joy and fun you've brought into my life. Love you tons.

They were amused more than I realized! ha. :)
DeleteLOL good thing they ate the evidence for you
ReplyDeleteBut you can't deny with them here to view
I hope if you get chucked in jail
The ducks come and give bail haha
LOL! Hopefully they would start a stampede
Deleteand come to my need!
And then at your zoo
DeleteYou may find one or two
One or two I would take
Deletebut the dozens of there? For goodness' sake!
Better leave them at the lake!
Here, a crowded home they'd make!
:) The ducks are so happy you misses those signs!
ReplyDeleteI think they knew! ha.
DeleteWhat a fun story! I enjoyed all your photos of the hungry group but particularly the final shot of the laughing duck.
ReplyDeleteThat shot started the whole thing in my head! What a funny picture...really looks like he's laughing at me! I always forget they have tongues, too....hilarious!
DeleteSo stinkin' CUTE!!! :)
ReplyDeleteAren't they? My favorite was the one saying they should have good manners. He was just so sweet and adorable! :)
DeleteYes, such a good little boy with his feet together and his hands behind his back like a real gentleman! I love the snooty grey one who says: "My eyes are blue too!" Hilarious! :D
DeleteI love ducks! Not to eat mind you. ;) I sure hope you had lots of bread cause that's lots of ducks.
ReplyDeleteToo much fun to be had to spend time reading signs. ha. Another checked off the list. Can't wait to see what you come up with for fall.

DeleteWhat a fun party at the pond!
ReplyDeleteI'm glad you missed those "Don't feed the ducks" signs. :)
What? I win? How fun!
Thank you!!!
:)
Yes! You win! How very fun! :)
DeleteThere is a park that I used to go to that looks similar to your duck community. :) We'd take bread too, and I don't recall seeing any signs either, although, I'll bet there were.
ReplyDeleteWasn't that a fun and peaceful outing!
It was very fun! If I go again I think I'll purposefully not look for the signs. ha.
DeleteThis is wonderful! My favourite is the last one – the laughing duck. I didn’t know they had tongues. He really looks like he is laughing!
ReplyDeleteTo the pond Betsy went
To feed ducks she was bent
They waddled and ran
To her sweet feeding hand
The bread was delish
A nice change from their fish
But once it was gone
They did not stay for long
The ducks they did laugh
At Betsy’s small gaffe
The signs said “Don’t feed”
Will she pay for her deed?
hahaha...you are a hoot. Wonderful little poem!
DeleteOops! Sounds like something I would do. :) Oh well, what's done is done right? They look like they were enjoying you breaking the law. :)
ReplyDeleteThey certainly enjoyed it! They made such a commotion I can't believe it didn't alert someone as to what I was doing! lol....
DeleteHey, how can you see any signs with all those ducks nibbling at your knees?
ReplyDeleteThat is SO true....I was worrying about my safety, not gazing around at signs. lol....
DeleteThat is toooo funny, Betsy! Thanks for the giggle!
ReplyDeletethanks for sharing in my funny duck trip! :)
DeleteYou need to write a book!!
ReplyDeleteThis is funny stuff,
never a dull moment, I'm telling you! lol....I still laugh at that last picture.
DeleteThis post is so funny Betsy, I used to love feeding the ducks, seems like a great time out!
ReplyDeleteyep...had a very nice time...and so did the ducks! ha.
DeleteCongratulations, Martha!
ReplyDeleteSomeone told me a while back that bread is the equivalent of junk food for ducks. Too much of it,and they start wanting it instead of healthy things--sounds kind of like me :-) However, your bird treat led to some GREAT pictures!
I'm sure you're right. And if everyone that visited fed them a loaf, they'd probably die! Maybe if I bring fish, it would be ok. ha.
DeleteLOL! I'm sure the ducks were MOST delighted that you didn't see the signs!! LOL! Glad you are continuing to check off your summer list! blessings ~ tanna
ReplyDeletejust a few more things! Maybe I can get it done before summer is officially over. ha.
DeleteYour post made me smile -
ReplyDeleteHave a great week!! =)
I am CATCHING UP and almost missed this! There was N! Cute. He loves the pond and was happy to have chatted with you...you KNOW he is a CHATTY GUY! I will have to show him this post. He would like that!
ReplyDeleteThis post also remind me that I want to plant Cat Tails!
