The Feline Gossip Chain

I'm convinced there is one!
How else would a little kitten end up at our back door
in the dark, frigid night, shivering and hungry?
Well, that happened last night!
There she was...all alone...looking in the glass door.
She's tiny...but friendly...and ran right into the
house when I opened the door.
She ate like she'd never eaten before
then curled up and went to sleep.

Welcome to the zoo, Cocoa. :)

    1. Thanks, Kitty. I think she's gorgeous, too...very fluffy and a dark, dark brown...like dark chocolate. And without a feral mother around to make her scared of us, she warmed up very quickly...much quicker than the other kitties we've fed here!

  2. Oh my, she is so cute! It is amazing that she found you. Maybe her guardian angel guided her there... or St. Francis.

    1. It is amazing, isn't it? Where is her mom? She's very young. She must have followed some of our crew home...with the help of St. Francis. :) What a lovely thought!

  5. LOL soon you will rival 101 dalmatians
    Except with a kitty plantation
But she sure sounds like she knew where to go
Word is getting around about your show
You may want to keep them all in
Or another and another could keep on showing up at your bin haha
    She is really cute too
What's another one to the zoo

    1. Kitty Plantation sounds better than The Zoo
      just between me and you!
Don't even keep food or water outside
so the racoons and skunks won't come to reside.
Also thought it would deter other cats
but she found us in no time flat!
How could I resist that face?
She's welcome to stay at our place.

    2. Seems they'll cross any border
Maybe you could pretend to be a hoarder
      And get on that show
      Could mean some dough haha
And as she joins your shack
Could be a gf for Jack
Too bad she came so late
For he had the snip snip fate

    3. Presently Jack keeps thumping her on the head
I think her presence is causing him dread.
Or maybe he's playing hard to get?
Socks seems to like her a little bit. :)

    5. there is a pecking order, that is for sure
they can hiss and bat until their place is secure.
then they'll all pile together all snug
like they love each other all smug.
      haha.

  8. So funny!! We had the same discussion at our house about the kitty grapevine. I can just picture one of yours saying go to Miss Betsy's sweetie, she will take you in if you have no body to take of you. Good food and love! Do you think they are finding you from the dairy bar?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Well, the others came from stray moms in our neighborhood....I'd seen both the moms for a couple of years even before I fed them...so...I didn't think any came from the dairy bar. But who knows! Anything is possible and it is close to use, obviously. I know they had a whole group that ate at their parking lot and they didn't get them neutered so they kept multiplying. And the folks that live in the elderly apartment enjoy feeding them, too. Maybe if I keep at the neutering, I'll eventually win. haha.

And who are you, Ms. Anonymous? :)

  9. oh my...i tell you what if i ever get down on my luck i am getting a cat suit and scratching on your door...lol...she is cute...but does she realize there is a vet visit in her future? smiles.

    1. I'm sure she does NOT realize that! haha. Shh. We won't talk about that just yet! lol.

I'd pay money to see you in a cat suit...but you know I'd feed you dinner without it. I'd even let you sit at the table with the family. :)

I'd pay money to see Brian in a cat suit too!

  11. Don't know about gossip chain, I laugh and tell my husband that they (animals)leave scent markers to my house (I did check to be sure there wasn't a flashing neon sign that said, welcome all ye who are tired thrown away, lost sick or hungry).
Animals do tend to come around those with other animals and I believe they observe before they approach, too.

You talk about spay/neuter. I do that for all strays that wander up more than a few times. I can remember ticking off a neighbor (it's unnatural, doncha know?), several years, ago by inadvertently neutering his cat. How was I supposed to know the cat belonged to someone? He was always at my house. *shrugging.

    Coco is a cutie.

  16. I would take her off your hands along with a few others if I lived nearby but alas I am far, far, away and sadly could not. She is so darn cute. I hope she stays curled up next to you all the time and shares the love with you. Cats are so loving.

    God bless.

  17. Oh my gosh, Betsy, she is so sweet! It makes me wonder where her mama and other litter mates are -- it's unusual for there to be only one. Maybe she decided to leave her family and join yours knowing that you would love her and spoil her lol!

  22. Maybe Cocoa got out of her house and got lost... If she's box trained at such a young age, I'm betting that somebody -- and probably her mother as well -- is missing her. What do you think?

    1. I did look on Craigslist to see if anyone lost a kitten in my village. Nothing. I wouldn't just take her and keep her if I thought she belonged to someone. Not sure what I can do if a stray mamma is missing her. :(

  24. You have such a tender heart, Betsy! And she is so sweet! I absolutely believe in a kind of gossip chain they have. For some years now my friend and I have been feeding a group of wild cats in a deserted fruit garden high above a small valley about one mile away from our village. Some day we decided to take home four very small kittys whose mother had vanished. They were bottle raised in my house and after about two weeks the old red patriarch of the group, always extremely shy, he never ever had let us come near him before, turned up at my doorstep. And decided to move into my conservatory, where Mr. Ulmer, another stray cat lived. And now he liked to be carressed. Then two years ago I brought my Rosie home from the ´cat garden´, because she had serious wounds. She stayed. And after some time one of her companions from the group turned up and lives with us now, too. All these cats had never be seen in the village before...
Lucky little Cocoa and God bless you, Betsy!
