The Weekend, Enjoying the Little Things

Sleeping late, then a leisurely hour drinking coffee in bed.
Then some of us napped during the day. :)

Cinnamon Pear Pecan Pancakes with homemade syrup and soft butter.

One perfect feather under the bird cage.
Blue and grey, my two favorite colors!

Foggy, winding back roads on my way to meet a girl friend for coffee.

Spencer, enjoying more than one sucker at a time.

Recuperating mama and kittens, including Smoke here.
This photo is for you, Laurie, since you asked about them!
Everyone is doing well!  The girls take a little longer to
bounce back, but it's been a week already and they are fine.

I made a new batch of suet and watched Mr. Wren enjoy it.  He even
brought a date, so he must think it's pretty good!  Thanks again,
Martha, for that recipe.  It's easy and they love it!

Frigid temps (teens, Fahrenheit) but sun streaming
in the windows made it a beautiful weekend.  Lovely sunsets
were the final touch!

    2. Betsy, I use to make syrup with just sugar, water and maple flavoring....how do you make yours?
When the kids were little, it was pancakes every day...and we used a LOT of syrup.

    3. Here's my recipe...

      1 c white sugar
      2/3 c brown sugar
      1/2 c water

Bring to a boil and stir about 1 minute. Remove from heat and add 1 t vanilla.

      yum!

    4. Oh that sound good, and would thicker, as I used more water, and no brown sugar. Think we'll have pancakes tomorrow!!

    1. I'm always afraid I talk about the cats too much, so I didn't say! But they are doing great. More of them are hanging around here, too, since it's so cold outside. But I'm sure in the spring, they will be gone a lot more often.

Spencer is so funny with those suckers! I don't know how he fits them all in his mouth! And he makes a huge sucking sound while he eats them. It's hilarious. Oh dear!

    1. yum yum yum! Mine had buttermilk in them, too...I always make them that way. Whoa..the fruit and whipped cream and coconut make them sound awesome! I love making them special on the weekends...Sunday is our day for a nicer brunch/breakfast after church. Might have to try your blueberry sour cream ones next week!

    2. I only beefed up the two that I ate :) no one else really likes them that way. But they did appreciate the new recipe I used even without the blueberries. They were super fluffy and so yummy!

    1. That was Oreo and Marmalade on my desk. It seems to be the favorite spot these days. I had 5 up there today with me. Thankfully they stay off my keyboard for the most part. haha. I think they love the view of the bird feeders and of course, it's always fun to have a higher perch. :)

    2. And for some reason, when we sit down they are eager to be near us. Kind of like they are under our feet when we're busy in the kitchen. My Oreo has a habit of swatting the back of my leg when I walk past him. Not sure if he's annoyed or just trying to get my attention.

  12. beautiful photos, I really like the multi sucker one!!! Thanks so much for letting us know how the kitties are, when we were in our house I was known as the stray lady, my husband said it was well known among the cat population that they were all taken in at our house. We had many cats , many litters of kittens over the years, I miss them so much, I find I relive those days here with you, I thank you for that.I think what you do is incredible ,

    1. I love that you were the stray lady! haha. :) I never would have envisioned myself doing this a few years ago but I have loved it. Cats are wonderful and they fill a void in me. I know it's probably hard to imagine I have a void to fill, but I do and they are sweet, loving and affectionate and I just soak it up! :) I also feel good about having them healthier than when they came to me...not to mention keeping the population from exploding. lol....
