Spencer's Scotch Tape

Over Christmas break, Spencer used up 3 rolls of scotch tape
in one day.  In one hour, actually.  Not only does he love his beloved
train pictures that he has printed off the Internet, but he loves
taping them all together, too.

Can you see all that tape?  This happened to be a page from an
old train magazine.  Apparently it was really special...so special
that one layer of tape wasn't good enough.  Neither was
five...or seven!  It's like it's been laminated a few times! ha.
And it doesn't look like he cares about neatness...just permanent
preservation.  :)

And I guess he wanted to make sure that it never got away.
On the left it's taped to a stack of papers.  On the right,
it's taped to a book...opened evidently to his favorite page!

Yep, some obsessions are really strong! :)
I'm just glad he doesn't want things taped to the walls. haha.

And thanks everyone that has emailed, texted and asked about
the boys first day in their new school building today.
Their teacher texted during the day to say they were doing
well!  We are glad.  Their new building is beautiful and I'm sure
they will enjoy it very much!

    1. yes, and I buy the no name brand kind. I did buy Scotch Brand Invisible tape once and Spencer wouldn't use it! The label was green and he wanted the old, cheap red one! :)

  4. All that work took some perseverance! The train page is well preserved. :)

  7. That's a lot of tape!

Do you periodically throw out then papers or do you let him keep printing out more and more and stacking them up higher? And if you do throw them out, does he get upset?

Glad to hear that the new building is so nice and that the boys did well on their return to school.

    1. He's most obsessed with the pages that are at the top of each stack, so I have when he is gone taken off a few inches from the bottom of each stack. One time he found them in the trash and he was SO upset! So now I completely dispose of them...out in the garage inside a trash bag. ha. I only do it if the stacks get so high they topple over. He really gets upset if one falls and all those accordian pages get tangled. Oh dear. haha. Over the summer I took about 6 inches off each stack and he didn't notice. yay! haha. And we had to stop the printing...he'd bleed an ink cartridge dry in one day. That was a habit we could not afford. haha.

  8. Scotch tape, not too expensive and not dangerous. I wonder how many rolls he could go through in a year?

and it wouldn't ruin, but still look the same! ha.

  14. Oh Betsy, as I was reading you post and looking at the pictures, I had a vision of Spencer's Christmas stocking hanging on the fireplace (don't know if you have a fireplace) but in my visual...his stockingt was filled with roll after roll of scotch tape ~ was that a vision, or a reality?? HaHa.

I too, am so happy the boys did well first day of school. Was the house extremely quiet...or did the cats keep you company.

    1. haha...well, I've never given him tape in his stocking, but that is an excellent Idea! We have, however, given him printer ink for his birthday. lol....

The day was quiet and I puttered around here...very nice. :)

  15. There is something very striking about these pictures. We all want to bundle up our favourite thoughts and favourite scenes. Spencer has discovered how to laminate love - good for him.

  16. What I read here is how much you celebrate the differences among your boys! This is a charming story that speaks to the boyish charms of a true train lover. Lots of mother's would get so frustrated by the use of so much tape but good for you for letting him display his project and create an important keepsake for himself.

  17. I'm glad the boys are adjusting well to the new school setting. That has to be a big relief for you. Looking at the photos I was wondering too, like an earlier commenter, if you were ever able to get rid of some of Spencer's pages. Thank goodness you can occasionally do that without him knowing. Matt can't part with anything, including food wrappers, empty baggies, etc. and I have to be careful to only throw out a few at a time so that he doesn't miss them ... lol!

  20. Glad the school day went well and hope that continues. How your kids are doing is always at the back of your mind, I find, even when they're miles away. As for the tape, I guess there are worse preoccupations!

  21. Dear Betsy, how funny is this.;) Laminated is indeed what comes to mind.;) Happy New Year and hope your Holidays were great.;)

  22. Creative laminate! I love it!! :) Talked about you on my blog today. Loved the granola! xo

  23. That sweetie needs a laminator...except you would then have to buy stock in a laminating sheet company. ha! Can you imagine the size of the rolls of plastic you'd have to haul home?
Wait until he decided he doesn't want the tape on his pictures anymore. uh-oh
Are these the same pictures that were lined up in the hall and bedroom?

I wondered how they did at school. Glad to hear all went well. I thought it odd that they wouldn't
agree to a walk through for the boys before school started back. New can be hard, new and change can be worse. I really dislike change so I sympathize.

  24. This is pretty funny huh? Glad to know their first day at the new school went well. I know sometimes change can be very difficult. Thanks for sharing the fun stuff going on at your home. =)
