Fresher Fridays

A little before and after of the inside of my pantry door.
The picture on the left doesn't give you a good enough
feeling of how bad it was, though! ha.
Pepper from the grinder had sprinkled down on
the items below, honey had dripped on the pepper.
You know, yucky things like that. :)
Everything came out, got wiped down and organized.

The spices looked so much better, I continued down the entire door!

I could even take note that I was almost out of
chili powder and steak seasoning in one glance! ha.

Doing things like this is contagious!
I couldn't stop at the door, but finished the
pantry shelves, too.  But dinner had to be started,
so the photographer had to put down the camera
and grab her chef's hat. :)
You get the idea, though...neater, cleaner
and, well...fresher!

  1. I didn't know it was fresher Friday, but I did some freshening too. I cleaned out my small freezer, then decided I better do my big freezer too. Feels good, right?

  2. Very nice!! I have lazy susans in my small kitchen on a shelf. I have to take then down from time to time as they fall over and spill...Yes..but it works for me.. I was cleaning out my pantry this week too. I guess it really is contagious!!!

I found out I need baking powder and corn starch.

    1. I would love to turn my bottom cupboard that is in a corner into a lazy susan! It would be a much better use of space! If we ever get to redo the kitchen, I'm requesting one!

  3. Good job! Let's see... now what did I do? Oh yeah! I made a loaf of gluten free sandwich bread! And swept up Play-do from the floor. :)

  4. Looks great! Your pantry is set up just like ours with the size and shelves. But we keep most of the spices in a separate cabinet.
And I took your cue and dumped all the ice out of the ice maker and cleaned it out. The ice and water that dispenses from the door was tasting kind of like freezer burn. Much better now! Like your fresher Fridays features.

    1. thanks, Cathy! Funny how the ice cubes do that! Ours were long past their prime! lol...
In the back of the pantry I found a few things that had expired in 2010. haha...apparently I didn't use them often..they were way back in the back and I never knew they were there! Much better now!

    1. haha...OH, I don't know about a mouse hole! You're 9 stories up, right? I like to think of your little home as a bird's nest in a tree top! So sweet!

  6. It looks great...I so wish I had a big pantry like that. I had pancake syrup spilled in a lower cabinet where I keep canned foods. What a total disaster! I think it has to be scraped up! :(

I guess if you cook, you collect plenty!
      haha.
I bet your dvd shelves are feeling bare.
You could collect spices and display them there!

    2. I am indeed! I painted most of the last two days. Kinda ready for that to be done but I have at least another day for trim and a few walls and the cabinets that are in the kitchen down there. Huge sigh! but it's totally worth it when I hear the boys expressing their appreciation for the upgraded living quarters. :) Flooring goes in next week! Then it's done!! At least until I've caught my breath. One bedroom yet that needs fresh paint.

    3. Oh and I think you would approve of the color. The top part of the walls are a light grey :)

      Delete
    4. Oh, what a great big wonderful project! I didn't realize the boys bedrooms were down there...how fun! Well, yes, I would have chosen grey, too! haha. I love doing things like that!

    5. I'm afraid I'll want to keep right on remodeling the main floor now too! Have to remind myself that "everything in due time!" lol

      Delete
    6. yes, when I redo a room, it makes the others look like they need it! haha. Our family room and the boys bath need to be done...and then the kitchen. Better get Taylor off and married first, though. haha. Then I'll be painting things grey! :)

    7. The bathroom down there was always drab and unappealing. Now it sports some Brookside Moss (Ben Moore) paint, some tile - looking paneling and a new vanity and trim, and is a lot more cheery! I think the boys are amazed at what their non - interior decorator Mom is capable of! lol

    8. wow...what an improvement! I'm amazed, too! haha. Are you taking pictures? You know how I love before and afters! :) That green paint sounds nice, too.

    9. I'll take afters but the before would give you nightmares. ha

    10. The house was built in the 80's so think rust colored carpet (nasty) and all that went with it :) No carpet going down except for the steps. Linoleum in the kitchen and bathroom and cork flooring in the main room. I'll quit now with the TMI before I start on family history. Haha

    11. LOL! Oh now, that's just keeping it real! :)

  9. This looks extremely nice! I should start organizing everything in the kitchen so I know where to find it.

  12. Hi Betsy,

I wish I had a big pantry with shelves like that to hold my spices. My pantry just has shelves and I am hoping someday to switch to pull out drawers. I do have my spices on Lazy Susan's in the cupboards which makes it a little easier to find them. Actually I just need a new kitchen with about three times the cupboards I have right now. Too much stuff and no place to actually put it. I think I need to get some of that organizing disease you have. I am just still so dang tired from whatever this is that I have caught. Oh well back to sleep for me.

    God bless.

    1. yes, the door closes just fine. The shelves aren't very deep and we made sure we lined them up to alternate with the shelves in the pantry itself, so they didn't bump each other.
