Auction Stories

I worked an auction today!
It was from the estate of someone who collected vintage toys
and antiques!

  1. They had a nice collection of lamps!
  2. I loved the one horse open sleigh!  If I could have fit it in my Jeep, I would have bid on it!  It only went for $50!  It would be cool outside with Christmas lights on it, don't you think?  Or inside to hold a pile of presents or an antique quilt collection?  Hmmm...maybe I should have bid anyway! ha.
  3. Some lovely old pieces of furniture.  This roll top desk with display shelves and glass doors was nice!  I think it went for $750.
  4. There were lots of old tin wind up toys.  What a fun thing to collect!  I wonder if the man was anything like Santa. :)

  5.  I thought the weather vane was cute!
  6.  The green 1941 peddle car went for $550.  The red tractor for $100.
  7.  The cranberry glass caster set was pretty!
  8.  There was a small collection of tin boats that were really cool!
  9.  Old tin pin ball toys.

And my little treasure I brought home was this Bavarian dish.
It had a piece of tape on the bottom that say "Grandma Denison 1893"
Now, why wouldn't someone want Grandma Denison's plate?
The auctioneer called it an underplate, which is a charger or the plate that fits under a gravy boat.
It looks more like a dresser tray to me.
Whatever it is, I loved that it's 119 years old.....and the sparrows, of course. :)

What did you do today?

My mom always made fruit cake. I've never tried, but I do like it! I always think of it when I see those little containers of candied fruit at the grocery!

  4. Hope you get to take a day off next week! :) My men are all in the hills again (the last weekend till next year, fingers crossed,:) so I didn't need to cook anything and it was rainy and cold so I figured it's the perfect day to do nothing :)

    1. You've become a hunting widow! haha. It's cold and rainy here, too. I do plan on sleeping in late tomorrow morning before starting on some projects. Looking forward to that! Enjoy your men-less weekend!

    1. I think people just didn't have room for it or didn't want to bother with it.

      I need to wrap gifts!

  6. The plate is perfect...sparrows included. I would have bid on that sleigh...and dragged it home behind the car if i had to. Today I helped my friend Erlamae with a few things around her house, she is 86 years young!

  9. you have the best job! What treasures, so sad the family didn't think enough of family history to make room for this lovely plate but good luck for you, you will treasure it, its very "you".

Not sure I can make a post come due
As thanks to the latest book
Some people in real life are giving the blog a look
So hmmm may have to reframe from work life
      Could cause them strife haha

    3. Your editor would say refrain
if you want some grammar gain.
      :)

You'll just have to put your work stories here
and I'll give them a comment cheer. haha.
But it's good they are giving a look
      all because of your book.
So they all like dinos that honk, do they?
Well, tell them to buy and not just look, ok?
      lol....

  11. That looks like a fun kind of auction. The sleigh reminds me of story from my uncle. He built half a sleigh and placed it upside down in a snowbank, scattered presents in the snow around it, and made like Santa'd had an accident. I guess it was the talk of the town. Somebody offered him a good price for half a sleigh and he sold the thing.

  13. Auctions are great. I wouldn't call that an underplate either, but what do I know? Well, I know I'd like a one horse open sleigh. But the thing is, I don't actually have a horse here in little car infested Holland. There's plenty of snow though.

    1. It is amazing, isn't it? Not a chip on it, although it must have been used regularly because almost all of the gold edging is worn off.

  16. That would make a great tray for a Candle arrangement...perhaps with some greens and festive balls..
Just a suggestion...not sure how big it is...
Today has been spent crocheting....still...nearly finished my 4th cowl for gifts...
And I must say..they are looking pretty nice!!!
    Leftover tourtiere for dinner...
    Perhaps a fire...and a movie...

    Cheers!
