Sunrise, 10-11-12
Morning has broken, like the first morning
Blackbird has spoken, like the first bird
Praise for the singing, praise for the morning
Praise for them springing fresh from the Word.
Sweet the rain's new fall, sunlit from heaven
Like the first dewfall, on the first grass
Praise for the sweetness of the wet garden
Sprung in completeness where His feet pass.
Mine is the sunlight, mine is the morning
Born of the one light, Eden saw play
Praise with elation, praise every morning
God's recreation of the new day.
Eleanor Farjeon, 1931
"Because of the Lord's great love, we are not consumed.
For his compassions never fail.
They are new every morning.
Great is your faithfulness"
Lamentations 3:22-23
I've linked up with Spiritual Sundays again!
And...you just can't read that hymn without hearing
Cat Stevens singing it, can you? :)
♥
Dear Betsy,
ReplyDeleteThis song always makes me cry ... my women's singing group way back in the late 70s sang this at the funeral of one of our members. So sad ... too young to leave the Earth.
What a beautiful song to sing at that time!
DeleteOne of my favorite songs. Thanks.
ReplyDeleteMine, too! And it's pleasantly stuck in my head! :)

ReplyDeleteSo I can hear it without such a whim haha
Wonderful bit of verse though
With the sky all aglow
Never heard it sung by him?
DeleteGoodness, son, where you been?
haha.
He sung it on his 1971 album, you know.
and it reached #6 on the pop charts long ago.
You weren't even born yet
and I was only 10 at that!

Perfect scripture quote to accompany your most excellent photo.
I know...I love clouds...maybe more than the sun! ha.
DeleteReminds me of something that happened when I was in high school back in the early 1970s. That song was in our church hymnal, and one Sunday it was one of the hymns we sang. All the younger people freaked out. We all had assumed Cat Stevens had written it! (I guess that just says one should never assume something, right, doll?)
ReplyDeleteexactly. :)
