I saw these cute pumpkins at Hobby Lobby with old illustrations all over them. They were over $25 so I declined. ha ha.
Then I saw this idea on the internet and thought I'd give it a try.
When I found a ceramic jack-o-lantern in the auction trash, I thought he would be the perfect pumpkin for this! He was in good shape except for some flaws in his glaze, but no cracks or chips... and he was even wired and had a light bulb inside!
- The one I saw on the internet was a real pumpkin (not carved). But my ceramic one did just fine. And he'll last for years to come!
- I also found a vintage illustrated dictionary in that trash. haha. I guess this project was meant to be! Just cut out squares of illustrations.
- Stick them on with modge podge.
- Carefully work around the electric cord in the back
- The face took the longest!
- Let dry over night.
- Since it's October already, he's found his place on the foyer table for the month. :)
I've never seen anything quite like that. :<) He's rather cute, I'd say.
ReplyDeleteIs he the guardian of the candy? I bought a bag of candy corns just yesterday and I think they're almost gone already.
DeleteHe's rather interesting, isn't he? ha. Oh, I'm addicted to candy corn! I've eaten a whole bag on the way home from the grocery before! lol...
DeleteOh I love your Jak Lantern look really nice Betsy!!
ReplyDeletethank you, gloria! It was fun to make!
Deletethese caramels look really yumm:)
DeleteLooks great!
ReplyDeleteI have a few myself since I never know what to do with the real ones after we are done with them.
Kids break them on the street and I find it a total waste. They make good porridge though if you know how to do it.
Some years I'm good about baking them right away, others I forget and they turn to mush faces. lol....
DeletePerfect!!!
ReplyDeleteCheers!
Linda :o)
Hey, this year you'll have a sweet little pumpkin girl, won't you! Aw.
DeleteYes...we will, Betsy..
DeleteShe has costume...hopefully I will get some pictures!!!
Thanks for remembering!!!
aw...can't wait to see pictures of her. She'll be adorable!
Deleteaw he's cute and I dare say his looks have improved under your skilled hand. His eyes remind me of hershey kisses. ha
ReplyDeletehaha...they do!
DeleteNice work!
ReplyDeletehow fun - love the black and white...and do I spy butterscotch next to the jack o lantern???
ReplyDeleteit's a nice change!
Deleteand yes, butterscotch. I keep stealing them. lol....
First the place costs a ton
ReplyDeleteBut it rhymes so it has to be fun haha
And once more creative at your sea
That pumpkin is surely a sight to see
Yeah a cheat rhyme
Oh well not a crime
I bet those candy will be snatched though
But a theif or two at your show
And modge podge as well
All kinds of rhyming is just swell
Halloween
Deleteis so keen.
lol
What a fun pumpkin - so unique! I really like it!
ReplyDeletevery unique, isn't it? ha.
Deletethat is pretty cool betsy...i like all the little illustrations on it....nice make over...
ReplyDeletejust something a little different. :)
DeleteOh this is just so unique. Love the new look, and how perfect to have it wired for the light.
ReplyDeleteOnce again your creative touches put a whole new face on something so familiar.
Happy October...
I love that it's electric! Very fun!
DeleteThat is a really cool pumpkin, especially the way it is wired for light. I was just thinking that one could also cover it with candy wrappers or even fall leaves. I guess the possibilities are endless and only limited by our imagination.
ReplyDeleteGod bless.
OH, what great ideas!
DeleteI don't think I've ever come across a ceramic jack-o-lantern until now!!! It looks suitably spooky!! Yay! take care
ReplyDeletex
they're pretty popular around here...and I couldn't let this old guy go in the trash! ha.
Deletelove it! so classy. I've wondered about up-grading those plastic pumpkins kids fill with candy too.
ReplyDeleteBetsy, I think you are just amazing.
you should google painting plastic pumpkins. There are lots of beautiful ideas out there! I love the white and brown painted ones, but I think I saw light blue was 'in' this year! ha. Or MrsU had a neat idea with the candy wrappers!
DeleteThat jack-o-lantern looks cool! But I have a feeling if I tried to do it, it won't come out so nice.
ReplyDeleteMy son has been wanting to put up Halloween decorations for a couple weeks... I guess since it's now October, we can go ahead and do it. :)
I wait until October, too! Otherwise, I tire of them. ha. The only candy my guys will eat are tootsie pops! Does Yuji like all kinds? That makes trick-or-treat much more fun....I always had to eat all the candy. Hard job, I know, but someone had to do it. lol....
DeleteWe have Kai on a GFCF diet so he isn't allowed to eat most candy including all milk chocolate ones. But he still enjoys looking to see what he got, and we always make sure we have some treats that he can have. And then I have to "force" myself to eat all the chocolate candy he gets. ;)
DeleteOh,I DO admire your sacrifice there. lol....
DeleteHow precious!!! I love it!!
ReplyDeletekinda fun, isn't it?
Deletelooks cool after the renovation..love it!!
ReplyDeleterenovation...haha...love that!
DeleteWonderful work! I can see you, too, are getting in a Halloween mood.
ReplyDeleteyou, too? ....great minds!
DeleteThat is a really strange way to decorate a jack-o-lantern... but I like it! Wonder who thought of it first.
ReplyDeleteum, thank you...I guess. lol...
DeleteSUPER CUTE Betsy! I love him!!!!
ReplyDeleteHe looks pretty cute on the foyer table! Caught Spencer really checking him out. lol....
DeleteThat is such a cool idea ... I've never seen a pumpkin quite like that before! And your earlier comment about eating the whole bag of candy corn on the way home from the grocery store made me chuckle ... been there, done that lol!
ReplyDeletehaha...oh, a fellow candy corn lover! :)
