Jack O Lantern Make Over

I saw these cute pumpkins at Hobby Lobby with old illustrations all over them.  They were over $25 so I declined. ha ha.
Then I saw this idea on the internet and thought I'd give it a try.

When I found a ceramic jack-o-lantern in the auction trash, I thought he would be the perfect pumpkin for this!  He was in good shape except for some flaws in his glaze, but no cracks or chips... and he was even wired and had a light bulb inside!

  1. The one I saw on the internet was a real pumpkin (not carved).  But my ceramic one did just fine.  And he'll last for years to come!
  2. I also found a vintage illustrated dictionary in that trash.  haha.  I guess this project was meant to be!  Just cut out squares of illustrations.
  3. Stick them on with modge podge.
  4. Carefully work around the electric cord in the back
  5. The face took the longest!
  6. Let dry over night.
  7. Since it's October already, he's found his place on the foyer table for the month. :)

    1. Is he the guardian of the candy? I bought a bag of candy corns just yesterday and I think they're almost gone already.

  3. Looks great!
I have a few myself since I never know what to do with the real ones after we are done with them.
Kids break them on the street and I find it a total waste. They make good porridge though if you know how to do it.

  10. Oh this is just so unique. Love the new look, and how perfect to have it wired for the light.

Once again your creative touches put a whole new face on something so familiar.

    Happy October...

  11. That is a really cool pumpkin, especially the way it is wired for light. I was just thinking that one could also cover it with candy wrappers or even fall leaves. I guess the possibilities are endless and only limited by our imagination.

    God bless.

    1. you should google painting plastic pumpkins. There are lots of beautiful ideas out there! I love the white and brown painted ones, but I think I saw light blue was 'in' this year! ha. Or MrsU had a neat idea with the candy wrappers!

  14. That jack-o-lantern looks cool! But I have a feeling if I tried to do it, it won't come out so nice.

My son has been wanting to put up Halloween decorations for a couple weeks... I guess since it's now October, we can go ahead and do it. :)

    1. I wait until October, too! Otherwise, I tire of them. ha. The only candy my guys will eat are tootsie pops! Does Yuji like all kinds? That makes trick-or-treat much more fun....I always had to eat all the candy. Hard job, I know, but someone had to do it. lol....

    2. We have Kai on a GFCF diet so he isn't allowed to eat most candy including all milk chocolate ones. But he still enjoys looking to see what he got, and we always make sure we have some treats that he can have. And then I have to "force" myself to eat all the chocolate candy he gets. ;)
