The New Parakeets

Last month our little albino Mrs. Bird died. :(
She was the fourth mate for Mr. Bird!

I brought home a new mate for him but he only
lived a couple more weeks himself!  One morning last week he was laying
dead on the bottom of the cage when I went to
feed them!  Apparently his old age finally
caught up to him!  He was a whopping 12 years old!
Unheard of for a parakeet!
Our pet cemetery in the back yard is growing!
Have I told you that The Mister swears he's burying me out there, too?
Hopefully he'll wait until I'm dead.  lol....

The new Mrs. Bird is on the left.  She's a pretty turquoise color.  She seems to like the new Mr. Bird, too.
Can you guess why I picked him?  I mean..it's obvious, isn't it?
Just look at those feathers...they look just like a blue sky with clouds! :)
The both sing such sweet songs to each other.
It's really quite sweet they way they kiss, feed each other and coo!

  1. They're very pretty! Mr Bird does have feathers like the sky.
We have a pet cemetery too and our kids tell us that's where we'll be buried as well. :)

    1. haha...I wonder if it's ever really happened...the owners get buried in the back yard with the pets. Probably has...some where! lol....

  2. My grandmother had a blue parakeets, quite like Mr. Bird. His name was "Pretty Boy" and she would put it on her shoulder and say "Give me sweet sugar Pretty Boy" and he would kiss her on the lip..too cute. I was only 7 or 8 but I will never forget that.

Growing up our back yard was a cemetery for many pets, large and small. We had services for all.

    1. LOL! Yes, I hope I at least get a proper headstone. Oh dear me. Although, I think I'd rather be buried in my own yard among friends than in a cemetery beside strangers! hahahaha.

    2. I suggest you don't add that to the mix or the Mister might actually dig you a home.

    3. LOL! OH, there might be more truth to that than you think! haha...although, he really likes the cats and has his favorites. And Tiger and Whiskers especially like him!

  7. When I was a kid we had a parakeet we had so much fun with. It is very sad when we lose these little birds.
I love the color of Mrs bird. How do you tell the difference between male and female?
Don't males have colored noses and females white ones?
The males are also smaller I think.
Wouldn't it be nice to have baby birdies.

    1. You do tell by the color of their noses...see the pink nose Mrs Bird has just above her beak? and Mr. has a blue one. Pink for girl, blue for boy. Seriously! They turn darker as they mature.

  8. I haven't had a parakeet since I was a little girl. I still have the cage. We had an enclosed back porch then, but if I got some now I would have to have the cage in our everyday living space. I am just concerned with the mess that will flutter to the floor. How's your flutter? :)

    1. they are messy...but then, so is everyone around here! lol...including the men. I vacuum the dining/kitchen/family room area every day...which helps a lot.

  10. My daughter had a Fyfe Canary, named Bill, when she lived at home...my boyfriend hated the mess, and the singing sometimes got to be unbearable...She took him when she moved out, and with her 3 cats, Bill lived to the ripe old age of 8...which was old for a Canary...
Someone in our neighbourhood has a parakeet, and in the summer you can hear it chirping...
Good for you Betsy...there is always "room at your inn"...

    Cheers!
    Linda :o)

    2. Actually...when Bill died, it was wintertime...she brought him here, and we wrapped him up and put him in a Ferrera Roche Chocolates plastic container...in the freezer for the rest of the winter!!! We buried him at the cottage, and marked it with a bird on a stick...
Just remembered this, when I read one of the other comments...

    3. had to chuckle at him staying in the freezer untiil spring. lol.... and I love the marker idea..so sweet!

  11. Very nice!

There's an actual pet cemetery not too far from our house. I've walked through it a few times; only saw dog and cat graves.

    1. I've never seen one, but when our first cat died, the vet asked us if we were interested. The plots were a little expensive. Under the pines does just fine here...lol.... I wonder if anyone would bury their bird there...I'm sure it is mostly cats and dogs...

  12. After living together with all your friends in your zoo, you might as well be reunited with them in your pet cemetery, though hopefully not anytime soon. You provided a nice home for Mr. Bird all those years... though that pretty, young new Mrs. Bird must have been too much for him. :)

There may not be room back there for you hahaha
    And yeah that is sad
But he was an old lad
    For a bird
    so what's the word?
    Was it natural causes,
    Or certain kitty pauses? hahaha
    The new two
    Look oh so blue
    And quite the pair
    There at your lair
    Yes, I'm late
    Such is my fate

So does Nanny have a pet cemetery?
It could eventually be filled with many!
But I'm curious about what you will do
      with your famous two!
      Cremation
      or taxidermation?
      What's your infatuation?
      lol....
