People That Look Like Their Dogs

I had to take Jack to the vet last Friday.
He had developed an upper respiratory infection
and he was coughing and rattling when he purred.
He even lost his voice!

So, after taking nine other cats to the Humane Society
for their neutering and shots, I spent more on Jack than all the others
combined.  haha,...well, no, not really, but almost! ha.
They wanted to do a feline leukemia test for $40 first off and
weren't too happy when I said I could get it for free next month
when I took him to be neutered at that 'other place'.
We settled for an exam and a shot of antibiotics. :)

But that's not really the point of this post.
As we sat in the waiting room, I noticed that the other two patients were dogs.
And I noticed that their owners looked just like them!
One gruff looking man was there with his bull dog.
And one older couple was there with their three little terriers.  All
five of them looked alike.  I SO wanted to pull out my camera
but couldn't figure out how to do it discreetly.
I had posted about this fact a couple of years ago and it is just a fun
fact that many dog owners look like their pets!

So I wonder how that happens.  Do the owners gradually grow to
resemble their pets?  Or do they choose pets, even unknowingly,
that look like themselves?   I suppose it doesn't apply to cat
owners or I would have sprouted whiskers by now. :)

Five minutes and they drain you dry
Lawyer's cost less which just makes me sigh haha

LOL yeah I've seen it a few times in real life
Maybe they go under the knife
    To resemble their dogs
At least it beats hogs haha
I'll remember not to get one that looks like me
When one is added to my sea haha

so much love for him. He's just easy to love. :)

LOL, that is epically weird how owners look like their pets.
I think we choose pets that resemble us.

  18. Oh I hope that Jack is GOOD AS NEW!

I just had an experience at the vet when I took Bud in for an ear infection. They wanted to do ALL these additional (unnecessary and EXPENSIVE) tests on him because he is elderly. (AND, in VERY good health I might add with the exception of the ear infection) I refused telling them they were unnecessary AND that we did not have that kind of money to spend. I received a great deal of "you shoulds" and negativity and I left feeling as if I was THE WORST pet owner in the world! I was downright angry!

    1. Oh, then you CAN relate. Was this Docton in Xenia? I went in on the defensive knowing it would be that way or I would have been pressured more I think. They were disgusted I was using the humane society...but good grief...you can't take all the neighborhood cats in to the vet! lol....

      Hope Bud is better!

  19. O my, I wond in PA & the kennel will not take my dog unless she gets the dog flu shots. I haven't called yet to see how much they cost. I think they give 2 shots several weeks apart. Haven't even gotten my flu shot yet !!!!

  21. Hi Beysy,

I think I saw a story once on the news about how the vets of today are playing on our sympathy and how we seem to love our pets as if they are our children. They try to guilt us into paying for things to try and keep these older pets alive whereas the vets before would have talked you into putting the pet to sleep. So we spend lots of money so the pet can suffer and live a few months more and we still feel just as guilty about the pet dying only now we owe all this extra money or we have a lot less in our savings account. Although sometimes they do save the pet while charging you a lot more than you would have spent less than ten years ago. It is just a sign of the times.

I hope Jack feels better, I guess you could say that I pretty much know how he feels since I pretty much live with a URI most of each year. Just be careful with him because he will now be more susceptible to catching them. He is very blessed to have you there to take care of him.

    God bless.

    1. Oh, it's so true! I was the victim of that with our big old black cat Teddy. He lived 16 years and the last month they really needed to just tell me it was time to let him go. Instead, they kept saying he needed this and that and would improve. I was determined not to be taken advantage of again and even changed vets! But I see it's the same at this one, too!

  22. So which cat looks like you?
    I'll be waiting for that photo . . .

  23. I can really relate right now regarding the vet costs, Betsy. My 2 cats had their annual check-ups this week and the vet discovered that my male, Sammy, has a significant heart murmur. The estimate for tests is over $500 and it's almost a certainty that the results would show that he needs daily meds for the rest of his life. I love him dearly but it's so hard to justify that expense. My vet is not high pressure at all and stressed that it is his job to provide info on the options available but entirely up to us whether we do the tests or do nothing, but I can't help but feel guilty doing nothing ... especially since Sammy is only 7. Taking care of pets can be almost as difficult as raising kids!

Your comment about sprouting whiskers made me laugh, which I needed today, and the photo of Jack sleeping on your desk is precious!

    1. Oh, you know what? They told me Jack had a heart murmur, too! We won't be doing anything about it. You almost have to decide what you will do before faced with the situation so you don't decide unwisely with emotions tied to it. Has your cat always had the murmur? If he acts fine and happy, I'd not do anything....and when it's his time to go, it's just that time, sadly. Easy for me to say, though, I know. But I paid $900 in one week to keep a cat alive many years back...and he died anyway. So, I do know how you feel. We love our pets but you can't loose all sense, either. It's hard!

      Delete
    2. No, Sammy hasn't had any signs of a murmur before and the vet said that on a scale of 1-6, Sammy's is a 5. He was just at the vets in May with an abcess after being in a fight with a stray cat and there was no murmur detected then ... so strange that's it's so significant all of a sudden. And the vet said that it's not something they could have missed previously. He does act fine, he's playful and happy, no behavioral changes at all. I'm sorry to hear that Jack also has a murmur and you're so right that we can't lose all sense when it comes to pets. Thanks so much for sharing your perspective!

    3. All the best to you and Sammy with the heart murmur. You do what you feel is best and don't let anyone pressure you. I hope he continues on happily. You should do a Google search about heart murmurs and see if they develop on their own and the causes and such. Just a thought.
