Crab Apples

The Purple Crab Apple is coming along with fruit outside my
kitchen window.  As I did dishes this week, I enjoyed
the dappled sunlight coming through the leaves.
The fruit seems a bit early this year, like everything else.
Lovely!

    1. Is it lovely? The fruit looks big even for as dry as it's been. Still very pretty. Some times I make crab apple jelly, but is a lot of work. I don't do it every year...sometimes I leave them for the birds to eat. ha.

    3. We used to have a cherry tree! The "flash back" photo of Taylor on my sidebar is of that tree. I loved those sour cherries for pies! But the tree died many years ago. :(

    1. exactly! I have made jelly before, but it was a lot of work and they really didn't have a lot of flavor. I usually do leave them for the birds...and they are so pretty in the snow.

  4. Around my house anyone who is being grouchy gets called a "crab apple" :) Very pretty tree. We planted one last year. No fruit this year yet. :)

  5. I too thought you were going to be a grouch
Arms crossed on the couch haha
    Not really though
As I knew the fruit would show
    And an apple indeed
Is surely liked at my feed
Even if they are for the birds
    Could be lost for words
As the birds eat the apples and the cats eat the birds
Then the grass grows from their ummm nerds
You know the candy in the box
That are the color of tye dye socks

  8. Hi Betsy .. just read all the posts I've missed -hope Jack's foot is better, that Alex's blood was found without too many other hassles, wonderful breads you made, and I hope that the summer is easing a little --- the legal aspects must be hassley .. but so necessary - at least you keep yourself amused in and around everything ... I've never heard of purple crab apples - must make good jelly. Happy weekend ... cheers Hilary

  14. Betsy, the apples look so healthy and nice, I'd grab one at once and sink my teeth into it! :) Do you apply any chemical/pest spraying?

    1. thanks, petra...no, we don't spray them at all and I've never had a problem with bugs or worms in them either!

  15. Sorry you were not able to schedule the blood work, though perhaps you were relieved. ;)

In reading about your working with Alex to do things more independently, I had to smile that he asks his brothers to do things. You gotta admire his initiative there. :)

    1. A little relieved, yes...but I really wish it was over-with! haha.

I keep telling Spencer and Harry not to help him. lol. But it's in Spencer's nature to boss the other two around anyway, so he's always glad to do it...even if Alex doesn't ask!

  17. quote, "The fruit seems a bit early this year, like everything else."

I think you might be right. I saw a few very yellow leaves on the Tulip Tree.
Yikes! Can't be because of the rain because we haven't had that much.
Might be an early Autumn. What do you think?
