A Little Wooden Box Makeover

I pulled this little box out of the auction trash a few weeks ago.
The lid is worn on the corners but other than that, it's still in good condition.
It was nice and clean inside, so I brought it home!
I especially liked the beveled lid!
I got out my paints and put a few Queen Anne's Lace blooms
on the top.  A little trash to treasure story! :)

    1. When I was a young carefree girl, I used to pick a bouquet of these and put it in a vase with water and food coloring. It was fun to watch the colors emerge.

    2. I think my mom did this once and made them blue! I think they are beautiful! And they do look really lovely in bouquets...better than baby's breath, I think!

  3. Betsy, since 99% of my art is watercolor...I'm curious what kind of paint you use to put on wood? The finished product here is just precious. You couldn't have picked anything prettier than the Queen Anne's Lace...what a perfect touch, and what a special "Treasure Box". Funny how a plain wooden box can look manly, but add your touch, and it becomes elegant, and feminine. It reminds me of your blue pedicure toes..HaHa..

    1. They are acrylic. The white was a paint marker in a fine point. The yellow and greens were done with a small brush. I also rescued a few old, worn cutting boards from the trash. Now I'm wondering if I should paint something on them? Might be fun to try!

    2. Do you have to put a glaze on over the paint. Love cutting boards...they will be darling and decrative too.

    3. I didn't put one on, no. But it's not going to get much wear. I guess I could spray one on..I do have a clear coat in a spray can. I'm afraid a brush might smear the flowers.

The cutting boards are very worn with use. I'll have to get some ideas online for them. I'm sure Pinterest would have ideas!

  5. That little box reminds me of a small cedar box, I had as a child.
My parents owned a furniture store, and it was a sample for the large cedar chests, or blanket boxes.
Thanks for the memory, Betsy.... I an actually smell the cedar...great job with your paints...

    Cheers!
    Linda :o)
