  8. Lucky you!

I have five big green ones I'm watching, and a plethora of "cherries" and "grapes", several of which are almost red. I'm giving them till tomorrow, and hoping the bunnies don't get to them before I do.

  17. I love that first tomato moment of the year! Of course I also plant baby tomatoes and the pups and I can't get enough of eating those little tiny tomatos warm from the sun right off the vine. Welcome summer!

  18. Every time we think about our options for our son's possible future, and try to come up with plans for guardianships, trusts, etc., we never feel like we've found the right solution. But we know that the 'live forever' plan is not going to work out for us (as much as we'd like it to) so sooner rather than later, we have to come up with a workable plan, even if it may not be the 'ideal' plan. It is so hard to think about, and it may be especially hard for you with three kids who are nearing adulthood. Betsy, I hope you have peace of mind in knowing you are making the best decisions that you can for your kids by tackling the tough decisions instead of avoiding them.

    1. Thanks, Yuji. :) We've been forced to make some of these decisions this summer since they are 18 years old. We can't sign their IEPs for school now without a power of attorney. Since our boys are lower functioning and nonverbal, it's probably safe to say that they will not be able to make most decisions on their own even as adults, and guardianship will most likely be the way we go. We also need a medical power of attorney immediately.

You have a few years yet and I see Kai being much more independent when he reaches this age. I have a feeling you won't even need the guardianship!

    2. We do have a few years until Kai reaches that age, but we also have been thinking of what would happen in the event something happened to both me and my wife. Of course, that would be a terrible situation with any child, but it feels even harder with a child with special needs. We hope that will never come to pass, but we want to prepare for the worst for our son's sake.

Best to you in working through all this.

    3. We need to update our will, too! Yes, that is a very hard decision...one you hope never happens but you want to have a say in it and be prepared. It's all a lot to think about! I'd really rather just find that fountain of youth I'm always joking about. lol...
