Having autism and being nonverbal, he can type or write what he
wants. But he really prefers to smile and look at you like this,
thinking that you can look in his eyes and read his mind.
I swear that works with his brothers, but not always with me!
Even so, how can you not smile back at that face? ha ha.
♥
Hey Spencer! Thanks for the smile! Tell mom I want a cookie! :)

aw, thanks for coming over and commenting. That means a lot! :)
DeleteHmm, I have someone in my house who has the same look! He is just adorable!
ReplyDeletehaha...yes, you do! :)
DeleteYup!!!his smile says it all :)
ReplyDeleteand if you don't correctly guess what he wants, he moves in closer! ,..as if that will help! lol.
DeleteI'm smiling back! At least his smile is infectious :)
ReplyDeleteHe would be happy to know you were! ha.
DeleteGreat smile!
ReplyDelete:)
Deletesmiling back...but can you tell me what he wants? smiles.
ReplyDeleteactually, no...not this time. He did this about 50 times today. It got to be so humorous, I would start laughing instead of trying to figure out what he wanted! ha.
DeleteSo, having my own autistic brother, I am curious. Just how well do the boys type? Are they "verbal" when typing?
ReplyDeletePS. My brother also talks with his eyes. I always gave ina nd let him finish my milkshake no matter how much I wanted it myself.
Spencer and Harry type very well! They spend a lot of time on their laptops doing internet searches...typing in detailed descriptions of trains and railroads. Their spelling is very good, too. alex is much less advanced, but can type in a few letters of a search to find a few youtube videos that he likes. School and computer classes have helped a lot, too.
DeleteMy brother is in his 50's now, so he never went to school like he would have today. I don't recall any of the kids with special needs being mainstreamed back then. I don't know if he ever learned to type and since he has a tendency to be destructive, we are hesitant to put anything expensive in front of him. Sad, huh? He does, however, have that look and has it perfected.
DeleteI'm sure treatments and classes have improved so much over the years. Although our speech therapist is a total frustration and waste of time. :( But yes, computer class, typing and reading have all helped. They are main streamed less and less, but for a few years were completely when they were learning to read, etc.
DeleteWhen they were toddlers, I spent hours at our white board writing words, drawing a little picture of the word, and saying them. They couldn't get enough of it!
Who wouldn't smile back?! Beautiful smile!
ReplyDeleteaw, thanks. :) he melts my heart...little stinker that he is. haha.
DeleteWhat a handsome young man...It looks like an "I'm hungry, mom" smile. And obviously he loves the cook!
ReplyDeletehaha...oh, if only he would eat my cooking! At least Alex does! :)
DeleteSo sweet!
ReplyDeleteand stinky! lol.
DeleteNow that is a disarming smile, Betsy.
ReplyDeletethanks, Martin. :)

ReplyDeleteI just tried to comment using my daughters Google account, Wendy Ascham, but she was not amused.
ReplyDeleteWhat I wanted to say was that Spencer has a "doppelganger" (double) here. I have only just noticed the similarity between him and a young boy in the town. I don't know the family, but I often see his mother pushing him around the shops in his wheelchair. I do know that he goes to a Special Needs school.
Oh, I know your daughter! I think she has actually commented here herself before. :)
DeleteNow that is interesting that spencer has a twin over there! But wow, I'm SO glad mine is not in a wheelchair. Life is difficult enough! ha.
Oh such a sweet smile...no doubt, he has learned from his beautiful mama. Thanks for sharing -
ReplyDeleteMarsha...I'm SO glad they are happy boys. Life would be so much harder if they were not!
DeleteSpencer's smile is a beautiful as the "smile" of the moon on your header.
ReplyDeleteHappy Summer!
they are both smiling at us ;)
DeleteAmazing that Spencer can type anything he wants to say.
ReplyDeleteAm wondering if you "type back" or just say what you want.
Hope your summer is going well.
I usually type back and say it outloud...just for the learning of it. He certainly can hear and understand what I say, though.
DeleteHe is so handsome and...I am sorry Betsy! A CHARMER! He is in charge of his brothers and I think he may be in charge of YOU too when he turns on THAT smile!
ReplyDeleteOh yeah....he does try to charm his way with anyone...but Harry is even worse! ha.
DeleteAww, that is one awesome smile!
ReplyDeletethanks, dawn! :)
DeleteLove that smile! So sweet!
ReplyDeletemelts your heart, right? Just like your jakes. :)
DeleteSpencer, my name is Wanda, and I love your mom, and you boys...and I love you smile, and I'm smiling right back at you!!!! You have a great day, and give your mom a hug from me. OK?
ReplyDeleteSpencer says "HI'....with two nods of his head. :)
DeleteThank you Spencer...I'm touched.
DeleteADORABLE! What a great smile : )
ReplyDelete:) I couldn't resist a photo....since he was right in my face anyway. ha.
DeleteSpencer makes such wonderful eye contact! His smile is indeed a sweet one, Betsy.
ReplyDeleteBetsy, that would put a smile on even the most die hard grump's face!
