Small Town Life

6:30PM EST 3-17-12

I worked an auction today and pulled into our little village this evening and snapped this photo.  This is approaching the main intersection of town and one of three stop lights.
That's the old opera house you see there at the intersection.
Looks a bit like Mayberry, doesn't it?
The clouds were amazing this evening, too!

    1. Hi, stranger. ha. Do you like out in the country or in town? The chickens make me guess it's in the country. :)

    2. I lived in the city during college, and HATED it! I love the country. We live about 3 miles from a smallish town. Three traffic lights there too!

    3. I've lived in both and love both for different reasons. But the quiet uncrowded village does have it's advantages. And we aren't far away from the bigger cities.

    3. I think Saturdays can be the hardest, too! Everyone is at home...it makes the day more complicated, shall we say? ha. But chores still must be done!

  7. I love Mayberry! Our little town has just one stop light on Main Street, and another down the block at the main highway. I like little towns.

    1. There's a town about 20 minutes from mine that is so small, it has no stop lights, and only one stop sign!

    2. Silver, I grew up in a town like that! One gas station, one grocery, one restaurant, one hardware. It was wonderful!! :)

    3. When we moved here 25 years ago, this was one of two or three "dry" towns left in NY state. It remains very much a small town and I like it that way.

    2. actually, there are regular performances at the opera house. They have an annual schedule...I think it's a monthly performance...not necessarily opera but a variety of stuff! :)

yes, they have bullets BUT a few are SO obese they would never catch a criminal on foot. lol...

  9. LOL I like your twins questions too
    Answers should come due..haha
I'll take small towns over this concrete crap anyday
Kind of miss the small town feel stuck in this bay
But never going back to mine
As it is no longer divine
    Basically retirement town now
As all have left and taken a bow
May make fun of Mayberry from time to time
But living in one like it wouldn't be such a crime

    1. yeah but you have water all around
which I would love more than any town
I'd have to see it every day
would feel like vacation at your bay

the university here keeps the place young
and we aren't far away from concrete if we want that fun
      ha.

      Delete
    2. Technically not all around here
      But it is pretty near
Only an hour or so away
Which is nice to have I will say
Concrete is fun to go to
But only for a visit to come due
After that I'd like to leave the place
And have a more open space

    3. Maybe when you get to add the dog to your crew
you'll have to expand your view
Bush #3 will turn into Forest #4
with more room to roam outside your door!

      Delete
    4. That will be the only way a dog comes due
For can't add one to the crew
If stuck in a crummy apartment like this
Either way it will be fun to watch the cats hiss..haha

  16. Hi Betsy, I'm here via the A-Z Challenge. I've been poking around and checking out some of the other participants, and I'm totally captivated by the way you tell your life through photographs. Your blog is beautifully laid out and a pleasure to visit.

And, yes, your village does look like Mayberry. It's reassuring to know that such places exist and that the entirety of North America hasn't been consumed by strip malls and general uglification. :)
