Telling ghost stories by candle light,
giggling girls sitting in a circle.
Wide eyed and terrified at shadows across the window,
illumined by the moon.
Hide and Seek at midnight,
holding breath as snapping twigs and crunching leaves
give signs that you may be discovered.
Squeals and shrieks at sheet ghosts hanging in trees,
a mix of goose bump pleasure and a flash of fear.

Ha! Perfect for the season!
ReplyDeleteooooh! Sounds like a nice spooky evening. A day to remember. lol
ReplyDeletehaha...love your mixed in acrostics...we had a graveyard in the backyard and told many a stories on the tombstones...
ReplyDeleteDon't you kinda miss those childhood days...when that was as scary as things got?
ReplyDeleteNow that was a very poignant observation. Times have indeed changed.
ReplyDeleteI like the picture!
ReplyDeleteYeah...as adults the thrills are different...and the scary things are, too!
ReplyDeleteAnd the kids aren't often isolated from the "adult" scares nowadays, sadly.
ReplyDeleteYay!! I can hear their squeals and shrieks as they play hide and seek at midnight!
ReplyDeleteTake care
x
Oh that was such fun
ReplyDeleteSure be interesting to see what kind of ghostly tale you'd stick the flashlight to your face and would have spun
Sadly yes that is lost as more scarier things
Than those with wings
Go bump in the night
Causing us so called adults a fright
And yeah most kids know them now too
Sad but true
Pat ~
ReplyDeleteWe always told a story about some zombie man licking someone's hand as it dangling over the side of the bed while they were sleeping.
Actually, we said 'insane' man, but that wouldn't be PC in this day. lol...And to this day I don't let my foot or hand hang over the edge of the bed! hahaha.
i really like how you end with flash of fear. without that, there's nothing.
ReplyDelete:)
frightening! please save one of those crunch bars for me.
ReplyDeleteTom ~ you can have all the crunch bars...I can't keep out of the Snicker's Squared. :)
ReplyDeleteA ghost pumpkin, perhaps?
ReplyDeleteLove the acrostic affect!
ReplyDeletehaha it is funny how we carry those little things with us that we made up to scare
ReplyDeleteEven though I think by sticking your hand over the bed you won't be any worse for wear
Pat ~ I'm sure you're right
ReplyDeletebut taking a chance could be a fright!
Besides, after 50 years
breaking a habit is hard work, I fear!
I'll nod and agree
ReplyDeletePlus being so old and your eye sight going, you might actually think it's the insane man you see..hahaha
Pat ~
ReplyDeletecareful...I'll throw a pancake frisbee at you!
it could make you black and blue!
that is, if my old eyes can see where you are
Hope you aren't standing away too far~
Love that photo and your story. I grew up across the street from an old cemetary, and spent hours playing there. Sometime at night we would play hind*n*seek and it was quite scary.
ReplyDeleteLovely picture. You're always so creative! =)
ReplyDeleteThat was so much fun and spooky too!! I can well imagine the excitement, shrieks and squeals. You have a marvelous scary post today!!
ReplyDeleteGreat picture with the light and fall color. I love the color of the leaves.
ReplyDeleteLove ghost stories and the thrills and chills they give you. I too never hang my feet or hands off the bed and might have heard similar stories while a child. They could have been from the Twilight Zone or the Outer Limits. Such scary stories came from those two shows. So many are still stuck in my brain.
ReplyDeleteAnd you should go back through Brian's blog and read some of the cemetery stories. They are really good and will give you a few thrills and chills for Halloween.
Thanks for playing Theme Thursday. A great story for everyone.
God bless.
Hi Betsy,
ReplyDelete4U2 posted an explanation of the picture for us at the Theme Thursday post comments. And dang it if Kris was not the closest in his guess. It must be a man thing. Anyway just wanted you to know.
God bless.
Last night daugther has seen all the thrill movies she can see, and sometimes she still go to my bed at night!! LOL gloria
ReplyDeletePERFECT for THIS week! I love THAT statue!!! It is a bit hidden till the leaves start to fall...excellent!
ReplyDeleteAnswer: Something that can be very dangerous!
ReplyDeletethanks, MrsU ~ I'll go have a look! :)
ReplyDeleteJill ~ I've always been fascinated by that tombstone out there all by itself! It really isn't in a convenient location to pull over and take a closer look, either. I would like to know who is buried there, though!
ReplyDeletealright, so I do things more simply:
ReplyDeletewatching movies about vampires while prepping some stuff...
I know,
just not as scary!!
;)~
HUGZ
I can picture the fun and hear the high pitched screams.
