A few days ago I thought it would be a good day to get out for a drive. I got the triplets dressed and had everyone go to the bathroom. We all got everyone into the Jeep and I helped with seat belts as I told them we were going to the corn farm. Spencer sat up in front and looked a little too excited for the corn farm (he doesn't even eat it!) so I repeated several times that this was not a trip to the store, we would not be buying any DVDs, and we would not even be getting out of the Jeep! It was a beautiful day and the drive there was a pleasant one.
But when we got to the farm, it had it's CLOSED sign out! Oh no! It is only to be closed on Sundays! How disappointing! So we turned around and drove home. Still, it was a nice 30 minute trip and good to get outside since we've been hiding in the air conditioning for weeks now.
Alex and Harry seemed to enjoy themselves and happily got out of the Jeep when we got home. Spencer, however, was not happy we only went for a drive. He decided to sit in the Jeep and have a protest. He didn't whine or cry or do anything, actually. He just sat, refusing to unbuckle his seat belt. I closed the garage door and left him there. lol. I checked on him a couple of times over the course of 20 minutes and he just gave me a pitiful look.
Harry sat in the family room and sadly waited for Spencer to come in.
Alex, on the other hand, was delighted to have the living room all to himself! He chose a DVD and was not missing his brothers at all!
Spencer did finally come inside but covered his face when I tried to talk to him. Sigh. He did eventually give up the pity party and got back to other activities.

Poor Spencer! What a letdown!
ReplyDeleteI know! But it's his turn to go to the grocery with me this week, so that will make up for it! :)
ReplyDeleteYour adventures always make me smile. :)

Funny and sad at the same time! But I am proud of Spencer-he worked through his disappointment and went on.
ReplyDeleteAwww....poor Spencer!! My guy thinks all roads lead to Walmart...but if you go the other way you get to McDonalds. hehe :)
ReplyDeleteaww...i feel a bit bad for spencer...good job not giving in though mom...
ReplyDeleteBrian ~ well, there was no giving in...the corn farm was closed. And I can't take all three to the store with me..impossible. ha. I couldn't have given in if I wanted.
ReplyDeleteOh the poor guy.He mad me sad lol.I hope hes ok now.I hope he enjoys his little outing to the grocery store.
ReplyDeleteLife is full of disappointments. Maybe the corn farm will be open next time. :)
ReplyDeleteSorry for Spencer. So excited to go so the disappointment was so much greater. Thanks for sharing your story.
ReplyDeletehaha you didn't give in to the pity party that was thrown

Stinks that it was closed and there was no fun
But at least you got out in the sun
Well at least you sorta did

Or maybe his reaction was damn
Now Mom's going to put me on that blog of hers like a recipe for ham..LOL

I'm not laughing. I actually felt disappointed too. How dare they close up those ears of corn!
ReplyDeleteYou have such a great attitude, Betsy
Poor guy, he looked so pitiful. Parker is like that when we plan something and it doesnt work out. Especially if we are looking for something firefighter and can't find anything.
ReplyDeleteBless his sweet heart.
ReplyDeleteAwwww... I'm always disappointed too when my destination is closed.
ReplyDeleteLOL at Pat and his comment!
ReplyDelete"Now Mom's going to put me on that blog of hers like a recipe for ham."
Sometimes the simplest hiccup is what entertains us the most.
LOL! OK, Pat ...you've officially stolen the show. :) I think that post of your on my food has everyone looking for your entertaining comments now! I dread to see what you do with the next recipe I post! hahaha.
ReplyDeleteCute story!
ReplyDeletePoor Spencer! I wonder what he expected. I hope he enjoys his turn at the grocery store with you.
ReplyDeleteOh, Betsy. I feel just like that sometimes. l don't really know why. Today is an example. I got an email yesterday that some friends are divorcing and I can't shake my feeling of sadness. I loved the photos of the other boys. We never really can feel what someone else does, do we?
ReplyDeleteAt least he didn't run away. I used to run away from home a lot. I would pack my scarf, backpacks weren't invented yet, tie it to a stick and start walking. Then they would come find me sitting in someone's yard, worn out from the long walk down the block. They always made me come back home. But my brothers and sisters always had fun because then we usually went to get ice cream. I wouldn't get into the car unless they promised us an ice cream trip.
ReplyDeleteMaybe an extra DVD would make Spencer feel better. I am glad that he wanted to stay with you in the car for a longer drive. I somehow think that is good.
God bless.
Lynne~ oh, I'm sorry about your friends. Yes, I think they would remain on my mind, too! :(
ReplyDeleteMrsU ~ Aw, that is such a cute story...the scarf on a stick, too! Icecream was a good thing!
ReplyDeleteWhoever you are, wherever you are - disappointment is always one of the most difficult emotions to get over. I sympathise with the poor chap - I know what it's like.
ReplyDeletePoor Spencer! But at least it was a silent protest. It could have been worse. I did giggle a little over it. I can see Jakes doing something like that too.
ReplyDeleteoh, I know how he feels. Sometimes I would like to do that but I am afraid my family would take me to the dr. and that is last place I want to go.
ReplyDeleteAnd I am glad to read in your comment that Spencer gets to go to the store soon. MAybe that is what he wanted.
is he the chip fan?
Drama...I guess it's not just for girls! ;D
ReplyDeleteDisappointment is a hard thing to handle. Glad he came around.
ReplyDeleteOoh, poor Spencer! He looks so dejected, bless his little cotton socks!
ReplyDeleteI'm in such a bad mood today that I'd stage a sit-down protest too... only no-one would notice, so there's not much point! At least Spencer's was a quiet protest.
ReplyDeleteOh poor Spencer!! I love how his brothers dealt with Spencer's protest so differently. You have to love a quiet protest. No kicking no screaming, but firmly getting his point across.
ReplyDeleteI had to smile at you realizing Spencer was a little too excited for going to the corn field. I have many conversations like that with Davin when I think his hopes are up way too high:-)
Oh sad, NO Potato chips, NO DVD's.
ReplyDeleteLove how you captured it all on photo...the story would have been good, put the pictures just transports me into your life!!
Loving you toay!
Well, based on HOW GOOD the corn is this season I would be sad too...except Spence doesn't LIKE IT!!!
ReplyDeletePoor guy...he wanted Sam's Club and a new DVD!
Rhonda ~ oh yes, Spencer loves chips. :) hey, nice to see you!
ReplyDeleteAwww you know, wouldn't it be rather nice if we all had such a thrill over such little things. Then I guess the disappointment over not having the little things would be disproportionate as well. Poor Spence, wish I could get excited about going to the store
ReplyDeleteAw poor guy. You do have the MOSt amazing days there Betsy. Ty for sharing some of your trials with us. It was such a great idea tho. How fun for at least two of them even if only for a few mins.
ReplyDeleteI hate to see disappointment. I feel for him. I still throw tantrums when I am disappointed. Not like a little kid, but not like a grown up should. I have convinced Hubband that I simply have trouble "shifting gears," but really, it's a pout.
ReplyDeleteOh poor thing! He looks just like me yesterday!! We were supposed to drive out to this lavendar farm...in Texas. I know, what was I thinking? They have a stall at the Farmer's Market and I was so intrigued. It was so small...no lavendar and very blah scenery. I looked like your son the whole drive back!
ReplyDeleteI did chuckle a little bit... in our family we call it "going on strike"... so-and-so is on strike. ha ha Always makes us smile rather than get frustrated at what you can't change.
