Random Thoughts

the back porch, 3-11-11

  1. We have a neighbor that still has their Christmas tree up and the lights on. No joke. We see it through their front window every time we drive by.
  2. The ground is so saturated from the melted snow and continuous rain that we have ponds in our yards where they shouldn't be!
  3. Last night we had a little mini blizzard with horizontal snow that accumulated up to 2 inches.
  4. All three boys stayed home from school with a stomach bug today. Although I really think only Alex is sick. He's pale and laying down while the other two are laughing, eating and galloping through the house. :)
  5. Did you know that rabbits don't normally like to eat carrots? It's a misconception that started with Bugs Bunny! Seriously!
  6. Robins eat 15 feet of worms a good day.
  7. We set our clocks ahead this weekend...just when I got adjusted! Actually the spring change doesn't bother me as much as the autumn one. The daylight in the evenings will be nice!
  8. March is not a good month for my hair. Wind and rain. No, not good at all!
  9. I was on the phone with the pharmacist this week and he said, "Are those birds that I hear?" haha...I forget how our parakeets are constantly singing. I'm so used to it that I don't notice some times. He went on to tell me about his friend who has a parakeet that can say several words. How fun would that be?
  10. I've worn my skechers for two days now. I can tell they make my muscles work. My legs feel like I've been hiking up a hill by the end of the day. Not painful, just like I've had a workout. One funny thing...I washed my hair and was blowing it dry. I turned my head upside down to dry it for added volume. Well, you can't touch your nose to your knees with skechers on, let me tell you! I just about fell flat on my head as the shoes just wanted me to keep rolling forward! lol.

Happy Weekend, Friends!

  2. I was coming home from a friend's house last night and when I was getting into my car to go home, I noticed a house just down the street still had their Christmas lights up on their house and they had them turned on. I sure hope your neighbor has a fake tree!

Hope the boys will be feeling better soon.

I just bought some new tennis shoes yesterday. I saw some of those skechers at the store and considered getting them until I saw the price. They were a little more than I wanted to pay.

  3. Finally, someone has snow besides us! Sorry, I know it must be frustrating.

I used to raise cockatiels...I had 15 at once at one point. I never heard the ruckus because I was so used to it. If only it could be that way with kids!

    XO,
    Jane

  4. We have puddles forming after today too, but tonight are supposed to get snow again! Next week though - 50 degrees!
And I always thought rabbits loved carrots. :)
Hope the other two don't get sick now!

  5. Re #5: The carrot & rabbit thing is really that recent? Cool.

Re #6: Robins eat 15 feet of worms on a good day? What defines a bad day? Twenty feet?

  6. How can they still fly after eating 15 feet of worms, now my stomach squirms.
Maybe they just want to be all ready for christmas this year and keep on spreading the cheer.
Save time taking it down and putting it back, but it better be fake or that just lack.
As it be a twig and rot, unless it's a new one they bought.
Maybe the buy a new one each week and give it a tweak.
Hope the bug goes away and it's bright and shiny the next day.
Even with the time going ahead and we lose an extra hour in bed.

  14. When I was in high school I used to "bird sit" on occasion for my mom's friend who had a parakeet. "Petey" was a big talker. Seriously. He said several words and loved to turn the pages of books/magazines. He was a lot of fun.

  15. LOL, we took our Christmas decorations down, but they're still boxed up in the garage waiting to be put away. I just haven't gotten around to it.

All of our snow is gone, and the recent bouts of rain have left puddles here too.

Well hot dang, I guess that Bugs Bunny had me fooled. I learned something new here.

I don't have any bad hair days.

  18. #5 obscure reference to this: Mel Blanc ( who voiced Bugs Bunny ), hated carrots! They tried every "crunchy type veggie" they could find. Celery was close but Stalling wanted carrots...so Mel compromised with th' carrots for th' "crunch" effect, only he spat them out after th' line was finished....

Tha's one for you Silver Fox ;)

  19. Matty ~ no bad hair days? Normally, I'd be jealous, but in your case? Well.... lol.

  21. I can relate to most of the "random thoughts" you have re weather. NH is a slushbowl right now. And people LOVE to keep their Xmas trees up til Easter! I find it absurd and I do wonder if they can't bear to take down, are just plain lazy or...IDK?

  27. My dad's companion keeps her tree up all year long. She doesn't even change out anything on it. She just thinks it's too festive to not have it up all year so she does.
She also has the old C-9 bulb strains around her house.

  28. Christine ~ lol...well, no I haven't considered that. Maybe if the auction thing doesn't work out. :)

  37. He went on to tell me about his friend who has a parakeet that can say several words. How fun would that be?

Actually, it can be quite dangerous ;) I was trying to teach my little boy (cockatiel) to say "pretty bird". I would hold him and say it over and over again. Then one day I had him at a house I was taking care of. I was talking to my bff on the phone. She owns my birds' parents. She said their mom was laying eggs AGAIN. I said "wow, Plato and Ari are horny birds." Can you guess when Cadfael decided to learn to speak? *rolls eyes* After that I gave up and taught him to whistle a couple of things.

  39. I did know that about carrots actually but what made the artist decide to show bugs eating them in the first place I wonder?

that is so amazing about how many worms Robins eat. Ew.

now, back to your neighbour--you don;t suppose the old chap is dead or something? Might want to go and check on him/them or her?

  40. Wow it does look cold there with all that powdery-looking snow. No.5 re rabbits and carrots - Cats as a rule don't like milk. Funny neighbours you have...
