Home Canning, The Green Method

"Life is not orderly. No matter how we try to make life so,
right in the middle of it we die, lose a leg,
fall in love, drop a jar of applesauce."

Have you tried canning using the green method yet?
This is so great! No canner needed, no pressure, no water bath! All you do is make sure everything is boiling hot and sterile. Put the lids on tight and turn jars upside down. Wait 1 hour for the hot food to 'seal'
That's it!

  1. That's how I love to do it and no one has died yet!

    Love the quote!

  5. My first attempt at canning was a disaster.Took all season long to grow the tomatoesmy mission if I was to accept, was a dozen pint jars of tomatoes.
The bottom blew out of eight of the jars when they were in the water bath stage, the remainder I dared anyone to open, and sat them on a cupbaord shelf for nigh on twelve years, before throwing them out.
The bad part was I threw them out, and they were still sealed and edible.
    Ooh, they looked so pretty.
The Ball canning jar folks, kindly sent me canning jars for almost four years in a row, turns out they were a defective batch.
Now I might try canning again, thanks to your 'green' method :)

  8. My goodness ~~ canning made easy!

Before plastic bottles, I had a bottle of Apple Juice break in the trunk of my car. I cleaned as best I could and it smelled like applesauce...until it started to ferment.. then my car smelled like a winery. HaHa

    I will try this method!!!!

  15. Mmm ~ 'green' as in "Going Green"...things better for the earth and the environment. No electricity used to do the canning, like the old way of having the stove boiling water all day long.

  19. I always do my jam this way but never have tried anything else. You can DO OTHER THINGS this way? What?

  20. oh silly me. Of course I know what going green is. I didn't realise not using electricity though was something that would make it green. I thought it had to do with the colour of the apples. LOL

  23. It sounds super easy. My MIL used to give us jars of her canned green beans and tomatoes.

You must have peeled a lot of apples. How do you use your applesauce? I bet the boys love it.

  24. Stevie ~ I peeled and chopped 1 large grocery bag full of apples. Applesauce couldn't be easier...apples, sugar and water. I like it chunky, so didn't even puree or mash it up.

  26. It works for me too! An over-abundance of tomatoes and we make our hot tomato sauce. Keeps for ages; nothing's 'gone off' yet.
