What I've Been Doing Lately

I've been bonding with my bedroom walls.
Literally...as I steam off wallpaper and
get sticky with the old glue! I was talking with
Jill the other day, and we were saying how some
wallpaper comes off easy, in nice big pieces.
Some wallpaper comes off in tiny, tedious bits.
This was the tedious kind! The type of wall prep
has yet to be determined before I start to paint.
Probably a lot of patching, sanding, and primer!
Meanwhile, I'm just pretending that I have that
Shabby Chic Style going on! Of course, there's been a mess to clean up each afternoon as I try to finish up before the boys get home from school! Soon it will be a beautiful dark gray, just like the bathroom and closet area! Nugget was the supervisor, as he is in all of my projects. He would reach up and pull wet strips off of my bare feet as I stood on the stool! Really quite funny and cute! Then he'd lay on the floor register to feel the air conditioning. And like any addicted blogger, I had the laptop back on the bed with me. I mean, you never want to miss what's happening As the Blog World Turns! :)

  2. We had a bedroom with the tedious kind once. After months of peeling little bits of paper at a time, we were left with some kind of concrete stuff they called glue. We lived with those glue covered walls for six years until just before we put the house on the market.

Some things are just not worth the effort, you know?

  3. Oh, I hate stripping wallpaper, especially the tedious kind:) It looks like you're almost done though. Be sure to take lots of computer breaks!

  4. Try mixing Snuggle fabric softener with water and spraying it on the old wallpaper. It softens the glue.
It's going to look gorgeous when you are through...

  7. Betsy! I am laughing at the laptop on the bed. I am glad that I am not the only one that wonders what is going on in blog land when I am busy or away!

I hope that nasty job is coming to AN END for you. Love the rich gray color....lovely and so serene. I prefer Nugget's job of supervising while laying on the a/c vent! Smart boy!

  8. A previous house had several rooms covered with hard-to-remove wallpaper. I was glad when I finally got rid of the last of it.

  10. Oh so true, about the blog near by! :) Is this our adult security blanket?

I've done your 'bonding' project before and the reward is to come. The hard work is ... now. At least it doubles as a work out. :) Great for the arms and shoulders, huh? And epsom salt baths for therapy.

It'll be lovely and worth all your hard work!
    Bless you -

  11. Ugh, I've been there with peeling off little strips of wallpaper. So I'll never put wallpaper in a room again. Anyway, there are so many beautiful paint colors out there, right? Thanks for showing us this and your cute little Nugget. So precious!

  14. Oh, that does look tedious! I can only imagine what your three boys could do with that if they got hold of it when they got home...you'd have confetti all over your house! Nugget is such a sweet helper.

I've never stripped wallpaper, and if I think about putting any up, I'm just going to come back here and take a gander to remind me why I don't want to.

  16. When I first started reading this post I thought, "I wonder if Nugget is helping." Of course he is!

Hang in there, all that peeling will be so worth it.

  17. Such a great choice, love it!

I had a lop named Penelope. She would be by my side through many a DIY project too. I called her the Westoration Wabbie sometimes. She didn't mind! :)

  20. I've never had to deal with wallpaper. The parsonage we lived in for 27 years....all paint no paper.

It looks like you are some kind of trooper to get it all off. I love the gray color.... And I like that your lap top and bunny follow you wherever you go!

    Hope today you can REST!

  22. ooh...did this last year in my daughter's room..115 year old house equals 10 layers of wall paper. A sample from each decade..

    Oh, joy!

  23. I wonder if that job would have gotten done much sooner if you'd left the laptop out of the room. There are so many time-consuming things you can find online...

  24. Oh gosh Betsy this chore brings back bad memories! I did this nearly 20 years ago in a bedroom at our old house. I swear the previous Owners had used Supa Glue, so no amount of steaming moved that baby. I ended up scraping the wallpaper & backing off with my fingernails & they've never recovered. I can blame this for experience for never having made it as a Super Model!!

  25. Oh Millie! I'm determinded not to ruin my nails! I did already break a scraper from it's handle, though! ha.
