Hi Betsy, I haven't visited for awhile but I can tell you that I always have a song in my heart. That is what makes the day so much easier to move through.
What a pretty bird - it is singing so lustily - hope its song is pretty too. The birds we call goldfinches in UK are nothing like this. This one really is gold. A lovely post Betsy.
Oh Betsy,,,,,,I have put out so much thistle this year,,,I buy the socks at TSC and have already used 4. I love my Goldfinch! Seems like they arrived early this year.
We started putting out thistle seed a few years back and one of the coolest things is watching the goldfinches become more and more yellow - they are brightest when the dandelions flower - but I don't know whether that's true everywhere.
The proverb is wonderful - a good one for artists to remember - that we create and tend a place where inspiration will want to visit. Thanks!
Eberle ~ yes, our finches do that. They come in the spring with their drab winter feathers and then molt and become the brilliant yellow...the males, that is. The females stay very muted.
I live in Wisconsin and never see Goldfinches in my yard in the winter. Apparently they are here in the summer because of our pond and flower seeds, but I don't put out thistle seeds in the winter, so they don't visit my yard. The males lose most of their bright color here, or so I'm told. The birds sure are singing in our warmer March weather!
I am .especially since I visited here . your themes are always such fun Betsy...
ReplyDeleteGosh, that is a beautiful bird. Maybe because I love the color yellow.
ReplyDeleteMatty ~ it's a Goldfinch. If you want them in your yard, put out thistle seed. :)

ReplyDeleteThe goldfinches really brighten our day! Yes---thistle seed will do the trick! Love this!
ReplyDeleteor plant purple cone flowers...I love to see the little goldfinches flying along like little roller coaster cars. This one is belting out a tune.
ReplyDeleteTom ~ they do have that little dip in their flight, don't they...and their song is so sweet! :)

Makes me think of Emily Dickinson:
ReplyDelete"Hope is the thing with feathers
That perches in the soul,
And sings the tune without the words,
And never stops at all..."
beautiful capture and appropriate sentiment.
