I knew I had to post this one for Sepia Saturday.
The man on the left is Harry, The Mister's grandpa.
Last Saturday I posted a picture of him and Geneva
on their wedding day. Here he is a bit older and
standing with his brother, Mike, in Ellsworth, Michigan.
I just laugh when I look at it, as Harry looks
none too pleased to be there. He seems to be
saying "Just take the picture, already!"
And Mike...doesn't he look like a character?
Maybe he was the jokester of the family
and Harry had just had enough!
If you'd like to see more sepia pictures,
or join in on the fun, go to Alan's blog here!
very cool. I should do this, I have a ton of photos from my parents. Its just getting them copied that is the issue. *sigh* maybe one of these days :)
ReplyDeleteThis is a great picture, Betsy! There sure was a big difference in height in the two brothers. Mike's face has such character. He kind of reminds me of Mickey Rooney back in the old movies : )
ReplyDeleteCat ~ he does look like Rooney! Hard to believe these guys are brothers, huh...they look like complete opposites in every way.
ReplyDeleteLooks like a still from a comedy movie!
ReplyDeleteBetsy....love the old photographs....i have got to check into Sepia Saturday....
ReplyDeletemore later, dear one
Love,
Kary
Oh my Betsy, they do look like a pair alright!! Love that you read their thoughts for us!! haha
ReplyDeleteThis makes me want to get in the garage and dig through my old pictures.
Have a great weekend.
quite the odd couple, in height and how they carry. cool pic!
ReplyDeleteI love trying to figure out the story behind old photos. I'm going to start posting some that I've found too.
ReplyDeleteHugs,
Dawn
i have a real fondness for old photos...you posted a great one here!
ReplyDeleteNow, these two really do look like characters from an old film. What a wonderful shot!
ReplyDeleteThat's the look my Dad gave us kids when he was all "I hope this look gives you a hint of my feelings on the matter before I have to talk to you in UPPERCASE letters!
ReplyDeleteDawn and Wanda ~ yes...join in! The more the merrier!
ReplyDeleteThey're both incredibly vivid characters, you can tell just by looking! I love the bow tie.
ReplyDeleteWhat a great candid photo! Seems a lot of the old photos were staged poses, so serious. But this one looks like it has a story behind it!
ReplyDeleteThis is such a great photograph. You can really see the distinct personalities of each man. Love that hat.
ReplyDeleteThey remind me rather of Laurel and Hardy (maybe it's just their posture and stance).
ReplyDeleteHarry does indeed look like he's not too keen on the arrangement.
Is your husband a character too?
Kat ~ funny! No, The Mister would be much more like Harry than Mike! LOL!
ReplyDeleteThis is great! Those expressions are priceless!
ReplyDeletethe farther we get away from our past the more it claims us. I find these old photos incredibly comforting.
ReplyDeleteCali girl ~ yes I agree! And I love to pick out pieces of their faces in the present generation...so fun... and comforting in a way.
ReplyDeleteI'm really enjoying Sepia Saturdays. Love your old photos.
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing.
karen

VERY CUTE INDEED! THE ONE ON MY RIGHT LOOKS A BIT LIKE A GANGSTER! LOL LOVE THESE OLD PICTURES! COME SAY HI :D
ReplyDeleteoh my gosh... this is helarious... and what you said looks so true...
ReplyDeleteLOL... thanks for sharing a great picture. The Bach
What i note is the very different heights for two brothers. Interesting that. So is harry fairly tall or Mike fairly short? Yes, Mike does look a bit mobster like. LOL.
ReplyDeleteMike Looks Like James Cagney! What's He Pointing At? Brilliant Photo !
ReplyDeleteInteresting picture. I have to say, they do not look like brothers at all! Aamzing.;)
ReplyDeleteHave a lovely Saturday,
xo
Zuzana
I think they should take their show on the road!
ReplyDeleteThose were the days. Some of my wife's relatives look like Al Capone's sidekicks. My relatives were, on my mom's side, from West Virginia, where newspapers were pasted on walls like wallpaper, and the men all liked white lightening.
ReplyDeletegreat poses that harry and mike have!
ReplyDeletejust love mike's hat!
Hi Betsy, I love to see the old pictures. I have some that look JUST like that one. Yes--Harry looks NOT too happy--and Mike does look like a character.
ReplyDeleteEnjoyed the post below --showing the air bubbles. Amazing.
I have a blog friend Jayne (Journey through Grace) who has an autistic son. If you want her blog address, let me know.
Have a great weekend.
Hugs,
Betsy
Betsy ~ absolutely...please send me Jayne's blog address! thanks so much!
ReplyDeleteIf this picture could talk!
ReplyDeleteI think you nailed it! "Just take the picture!" Don't you just love the "characters" in the family? This was delightful!
ReplyDeleteThat is a wonderful old photo. They usually aren't that expressive from that era!
ReplyDeleteThere is something so wonderful about the expressions, they seem to say so much. You could almost script-write the scene as the photograph was taken. What is it about these old personal photos that is so emotive? I suppose it is the fact that they were personal and tell their own unique stories.
ReplyDeleteyes this is a great one - it really prompts one to imagine what took place just before and just after
ReplyDeleteIt is really a neat post of history. The clothing and the expression are so telling of the times.
