Repurposed Sweater

Several months ago I saw a blogger turn an
old sweater into a throw pillow. While I was
at the thrift store last week, I bought a few
sweaters with repurposing in mind. This one
was too big for any of my men and it had a
big hole under one arm. It was $1.00.
After running it through the laundry, I cut off the
waistband, sleeves and neckline. Leaving the side seams
in tact, I machine stitched the top and bottom...
...leaving enough space to squeeze in a pillow
form. Then I stitched up the hole by hand. Very comfy! Then I noticed that the sleeves had some potential! With the cuffs already there, they could easily be made into mittens! So I cut out the shape and stitched them up on the machine! Perfect!

  6. Aren't you the most clever? Who would have thought. You shouldn't have posted this, you know. Now I'll be looking at old stuff in a different way and I don't need any more old stuff around here.

  7. Oh, goodness!!! I could hug you for all of your cleverness!! I love the pillow and mitts and I think the pattern worked perfectly for both projects.

I have heard another tip. If you have a small dog, the cut off sleeve of a sweater makes a great dog sweater!! Ad since I recently went from a big dog to two small dogs, I know it IS a necessity in the cold as opposed to Paris and her fashion line for dogs (well, it doesn't hurt to have them in decent sweaters!!).

    Thanks Betsy!!!

  13. Great idea, Betsy, great! I would think to make a throw pillow but mittens, no. There are endless ways of creatively re-purposing our old stuff, and giving it to new uses. You did it, bravissima sei:) Thanks so much for sharing, and happy belated B*day wishes to your wonderful boys.
