Tacos for your crockpot this month.
I changed it a little...cooking it slow on the stove
and using a chuck roast instead. The results were
spicy and satisfying! They made the house smell
wonderful as they simmered all day!
****
Shredded Beef Tacos
2 c salsa, with more for serving
2.5 T chili powder
2 T dried oregano
1 t cumin
1 pinch ground red pepper
1 t sugar
2 T unsweetened cocoa
kosher salt
1-2.5 lb chuck roast
soft tortillas
****
Whisk sauce together and pour over meat
in stock pot. Bring to boil. Cover, reduce heat and
simmer 4-5 hours until meat is tender and can
be shredded with fork. Uncover and simmer longer
until liquid is incorporated into the meat.
Taste and adjust seasonings if needed.
Serve on warm tortillas with lime, sour cream
salsa, shredded cheese and cilantro.
Yum!
I could eat fancy tacos every day, EVERY DAY. My mouth is watering right now. This is a recipe to remember!

ReplyDeleteJust stopping by and thought I'd leave a comment...hope you don't mind.
ReplyDeleteThank you for the recipe, tacos are a favorite around here. I usually use ground beef but love shredded beef tacos. I'll give this recipe a try!
I've got to try this. For the past month we've had taco pie every Sunday night. This sounds like an interesting variation. Surprised to see the cocoa in there!
ReplyDeleteYum is right! Love tacos.
ReplyDeleteI finally changed my clothes now, btw. check it out. You'll laugh.Thx for the hygeine prod!1 hahahahah
Mr Sponge...you are too funny...ok...going to check out the clothes..and maybe the hair.
ReplyDeleteThis sounds good and I am always looking for a twist on tacos...ALL the kids will eat it if I use the word "taco."
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful picture! My husband is extreme opposite of Jill's Kids,,,if I call it a taco he will frown,,,let's see, i'll call it shredded fajita/ha
ReplyDeleteSounds yummy. We had shredded pork sandwiches for supper tonight along with home made potato salad. And some fresh grapes. I put my pork roast in the crock pot and simmered all night, unplugged, removed any extra fat, shredded the meat and then set the crock pot in the cold garage, brought back in this afternoon and reheated. Served with dill pickles, sweet onion and mustard. Of course I now have an upset stomach. Doesn't take much to cause that to happen to me. But believe it or not, usually beef will upset it quicker then pork, I think it was the onion. Have a terrific week-end.
ReplyDeletePatty ~ that sounds delish! And great use of the coolness of the garage! I do that sometimes when there isn't room in the frig!
ReplyDeleteYum, what a great idea. I normally use shredded beef to make 'steak sandwiches' but this looks like fun and I am going to do it next time.
ReplyDeleteOk, now I am hungry again - although I just had lunch!;))
ReplyDeleteLove your new header picture.;))
Oh my goodness, Betsy, I am so glad that you stopped by and introduced yourself. Your blog is BEAUTIFUL! I wish I had found you ages ago, because now I have SO much catching up to do!
ReplyDeleteI thought we had a lot in common already, but now I see all the yummy recipes and the beautiful words to live by...you are truly a girl after my own heart!
I can't wait to go grocery shopping today...and to think we were just going to have plain old ground beef tacos tonight! There'll be something new cooking!
I'm so happy to have "met" you. (Yet another way that my sweet friend, Jill at the Glen, has been a blessing in my life!)
Have a great day! :)- Amy
We had shredded port last night and Pat went to a fashion show so I am allowed to eat more shredded pork. It is now classified: "Leftover."
ReplyDeleteOne of my favorites.. I'm just sorry that I can no longer visit the Henry J Beans in Shangri La for quite sometime now to taste their yummy tacos.. Anyway, thanks that you shared this to us.. why go there when I got your recipe..? Have a nice day my friend..
ReplyDeleteInteresting recipe. How does the coco affect the final flavor of the tacos? Do they have a chocolaty taste?
ReplyDeleteStevie ~ you really can't tell the cocoa is there. It just gives it a depth of flavor...not chocolatey at all.
ReplyDeleteAmy ~ thanks for the visit! It's always great to conenct with new people here.
ReplyDeleteThis looks so tasty and I'll bet the aroma was heavenly....
ReplyDeleteLooks good! I love mycrockpot so I think I'll use that
